I guess my question was, is spaghetti squash a winter squash? I can't seem to get a clear answer but it seems to be a winter squash.

Per Cook's Thesaurus: Squashes & Gourds, spaghetti squash is a winter squash.

Others, like Jo, did not care for them at all. You won't know until you try.
You can also find shirataki style noodles that have tofu in them (in addition to the konjac flour). They are usually made by House Foods and are found in most grocery stores near the tofu. They are bagged in liquid and refrigerated. Each bag has only 40 calories, 6 carbs and 4 fibers.
All shirataki noodles require special handling, so check recommendations of experienced users and don't buy too many until you know how you feel about them.

Thank you very much for this info. I ordered them today.

Thanks Susie! That means Spaghetti Squash is NOT an OK pasta replacement for the acute phase of this diet.

today I went to mother earth and got the stuff I have been looking for, problem is not sure what to do with them. I could not find guar gum but did find xanthan gum, can I substitute one for the other, also got almound flour, and flaxseed meal and vanilla protein mix. need some recipes for these things if anyone has any, really looking for a desert or smoothie for the vanilla protein shake stuff. Thanks mary

also for those trying the miracle noodles, I have tried various recipes and the only one I can eat is using pizza sauce, parm cheese and add veggies, anything else I tried I was gagging on it. Listen to Susies advice on the prep, it does work.

Is Flatout Wrap only for Maintenance period? Would one wrap kick me out of Ketosis?

From what I understand yes it is definitely for people in maintenance, not the acute phase. I am pretty sure it would kick me out of ketosis but everyone is different so it may or may not...but I would guess yes.

Most bread type products are no nos for the acute phase.

I asked my clinic about the low carb flat bread and low carb tortillas while I was in acute phase and they said absolutely no. They wanted me completely removed from those kinds of foods. In the long run I think it was the right decision as I got used to living without them. You might want to check with your clinic because every clinic is slightly different in what they allow. My concern would be that they might get you craving those kind of things again.

I have a question - can we start a "food porn" thread where we post pictures of the Medi-recipes when we cook them? I know that would help me A LOT! I'm a visual person and much prefer a cookbook with pictures. I've been reading through the recipe threads and I just felt like having pictures would be awesome! It also might give people who are considering Medi hope that they won't be eating "rabit food" or "solid proteins". Since this is a lifestyle change, let's celebrate our new style of living together through photos!

I made my first Medi recipe today and I took pictures of it - I'd love to share that experience somewhere so that others can see how EASY it was!

What do you guys think???

I say go for it, but I would call it something a little more boring like recipe snapshots and I would encourage the posters to refer to the thread and post number they are photographing. Maybe we could also have the posters of the recipe threads, when possible, include a photo from now on. This maybe difficult for some as they do not know how to post photos.

LOL! I figured that the name might not fly, but that's what it is to me!! I can't wait to salivate over the photos of the dishes you're cooking- I KNOW they're going to be great! Can anyone start a thread? I kinda thought it had to be approved. I completely understand wanting to keep this board organized, so if it's not ok, just let me know!

I will talk with Susie about getting this started...and she and I will figure it out...unless someone else begins it first.

I have a question about figuring out the nutritional value of a recipe. I modified a recipe tonight and entered the values into the Daily Plate Website. It figured the calories to be 47 per serving, but when I added up the values of every ingredient I added in the correct quantity, I came up with 72.33 calories. How exactly should I do this?

Here are my stats:
I used 2 cups of Egg Starts (generic Egg Beaters) Calories 30 per 1/4 cup serving - TOTAL 240
I used 1 cup of RF 4 Cheese Mexican Cheese Blend Calories 80 per 1/4 cup serving - TOTAL 320
I used 1 cup of steamed broccoli Calories 25 per 1/2 cup - TOTAL 50
I used 1 cup of shredded chicken breast - 258 per cup - TOTAL 258

TOTAL Calories 868
The recipe made 12 servings for a total of 72.33

RIGHT??? Or is there some secret formula that I don't know???

I would say to go with the calories that you figured out. Since you have the nutritional info right in front of you and the site may not be using the exact same food that you are...I too get very frustrated figuring nutritional info out! It's not so bad when I definitely know all the nutritional info and I can measure something out, but it's hard when I have to try to figure it out based on what a website is telling me. It seems different websites give different info and it's very confusing and I don't know which one to trust!

On Daily Plate, edit the recipe and make sure that it got right amounts for the ingredients. Sometimes it messes up. I always double check and make sure what it is telling me makes sense.

~Shannon~I test every recipe I put in the threads. These are light little puffs of meringue with a cinnamon taste. I liked them, and my friends liked them.

I'm going to have to give them a try. I made some other meringue cookies last night and didn't like them at all! They had cocoa powder in them and just tasted kind of weird to me...

For those that use Oopsie Rolls, do you count them as part of your protein?

I was just going to ask that same question!!!!!

Also, what about recipes that call for things like cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, etc.. do you count those calories as part of the 500 calories of protein or as something else?

Yes, according to my clinic, all calories outside your 2 vegetables or 1 fruit and 1 vegetable go against your protein calories.
