Week 1 weigh in

Week 1 weigh in today. Lost 8.2 lbs (7lbs of fat)! I am excited to have the first week behind me. I feel great and have a lot of energy. I am already in the groove of planning out my meals the night before and for me, that is half the battle.
I can't wait to try those turnip fries!

I am starting to use some of the recipes on this site. Could someone explain to me when say you use a pound of ground turkey burger with all the other ingrediants how do you break everything down into a serving? Calories, Carbs, and fats

Help! I've got the crud. My chest is hurting and I have a bad cough. and sore throat from sinus drainage. I went to my family doctor friday for a new script and they checked my blood because I felt like I was getting sick. No infection present but yesterday and today I have fever, congestion and body aches. I am so emotional and can't seem to stop crying.
I need some advise on what to eat while I'm sick. I don't want to blow it but nothing sounds good! I'm drinking lots of water with lemon and it seems to be helping by keeping my cough loose.
I'm going back to the doctor tomorrow for a shot of antibotic! Thanks, Sherrie

Does anyone else get flush from the fatburner? I know it has only been 10 days but I hate the feeling. I get the cold sweats for about 30 minutes. I am going to call the clinic tomorrow and ask them.

Sherrie,

Just take care of getting yourself healthy. You can get right back on plan when you are feeling better if you decide to go off it.

Feel Better

A group of us are heading out to the Renaissance Faire today. It is the last day for it to be here in Phoenix. I have my little bag of food with me so I won't be tempted to buy things like the giant turkey leg and other stuff! Got my SF Jello, couple bottles of water, some deli turkey, and a power pop.

It is going to be a gorgeous Arizona day! Bright blue skies and temps in the mid 70s.

Sherrie, take care of yourself and feel better. McBoo gave you some good advice there.

And McBoo, take care of you too!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Good morning all! Been a while since I posted...my husband had emergency surgery on 3/20. We were discharged home only to return 5 hrs later then admitted for 5 days. The nursing care was a bit sketchy at times and as a nurse, I'm even a bit more critical and aware. I was too concerned to leave him much. I had the help of friends to care for the kids, but I still needed to deal with the home front. Anyway, I ended up ended lots of almonds, because I had a can with me, and not alot else. I'm AMAZED at the crap they have available for purchase....not much healthy at all. He's better, by the way, but we found he's diabetic, so we are trying to deal with that and figure it out. As a nurse, I can manage a diabetic pt. in the hospital, but it's totally different at home! So overwhelming!!!
I lost 6.1 lbs for the week, despite not being able to go to the gym, so I down 71 lbs total. Yeah...
Back on it now that I am home with my own foods, and a little less stressed....though the daughter did get head lice AGAIN, and strep throat! It's one thing after another sometimes.
Congrats to all the losers, and keep going everyone. We're gonna get there! Just gotta keep plugging away!
McBoo, make sure you are taking care of yourself. Be sure to cough and deep breath to avoid pneumonia after surgery!

Welcome back cris and so sorry about your hubby.
I understand the being overwhelmed by having a diabetic in the house. My hubby was diagnosed about 3 years ago with type II.
I used to be on a diabetic teaching floor at the hospital (many moons ago) but it didn't prepare me for dealing with someone I loved going through it.
I had to teach him a lot of things and remind myself that this is a lifetime thing, not just a shift on the unit.
I'm in Matthews NC,by the way, and there are lots of sugar free products and low carb things that you will find for your husband. I went to his appointment with the dietician and found her totally unsatisfactory for information....she was very condescending. I didn't even tell her that I'm an RN so I guess that was how she treated all the patients!
I found Splenda.com a great help for recipes and google is just great for most information you need.
My husband has lost a few pounds since I started MWL, so this has been a bonus for both of us!

By the way, has anyone had problems with dizziness?
I've had it just the past couple of days. My pulse is normal and I do get a little more light-headed when I stand up. Think I might need more sodium?

Any ideas would help!

So sorry McBoo,
Take care of yourself and do as Cris said . You certainly don't need pneumonia while you have a sore belly.

Get dr richard bernsteins book, I think it is called the diabetes solution. He advocates low carb. Also has a great website. My dh is diabetic and totally in control following Bernsteins program.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I am taking care of myself and will be back at a regular pace pretty soon.

The only issue that bothers me is I can't lift any weights for 6 weeks. I hate not being able to go to the gym. I go to the surgeon for follow up on Thursday and I think he will let me start some very light cardio by what he said when I was discharged. I am following all instructions and not pushing it.

Crism,

Thanks for the info about the pneumonia. The hospital here gives out spirometers and makes sure you use it to make sure you don't get it.

I am sure I am going to can a few pounds from this setback but when I am able to get back up to speed I will make the necessary adjustments to correct any gain if there is any. I am staying off the scale right now because it is not going to accomplish anything if I see a number I don't like and cant do what I know will correct it.

On another note hospital food is lousy and I don't see how they can think it is healthy. The healthest thing was the over boiled (it sure wasn't steamed) brocolli. It was mush.

Oh well I am done for the day and getting tired and sitting in front of the computer is not comfortable right now.

Have a good night and good luck to everyone this week.

McBoo

Hi Everybody,
I just started with the program on Friday (I posted some comments on the First Week Thread), and I am very glad to have found this blog. It's very encouraging to hear all your stories, successes and struggles. I'm on day 3 and I'm on moderate Ketosis,so I think I'm on track. I was a little dizzy the first day, but I am feeling better now, although I get headaches every now and then. I love all the recipes I've seen posted and I can't wait to get to the next week(s) so I can try them. The one thing I've been surprised about is that I don't feel like I'm starving. I am not taking the appetite supressants because I don't like taking pills like that, and I still haven't been too hungry. I am a little bored of the same foods every day though, but at least it's food I like.

Thanks for sharing and for all the support and ideas!

Dodgern,
At least one Power Ade zero per day should keep you from being dizzy. ( I like the blue mixed berry the best) Also try to drink some warm College Inn Chicken or beef broth.

Congratulations, I started out taking 1/2 pill twice per day, the hungar didn't settle in until week three. Try sipping some warn broth slowly iif you get really hungry. Make sure it's College Inn broth.
Best wishes for a successful journey

Back Pain

Hi,
I have been on the Medi Plan for 3 weeks now. For the past 2 weeks I have been getting lower back pain. Sometimes it is mild other times it is more painful. I am wondering if the diet could be effecting my kidney.

Did anyone ever has a problem or hear about this. I am think maybe my carbs will have to be increased.

Anyway I have my appointment today at 3:00 and should get some answers.
In the meantime I am just a little bit nervous.

Thanks!!

I have been on the diet for a month now and as happy as I am to have lost the weight I have lost the past 2 weeks have been very slow

Last week I lost .5 lbs and this week I lost close to 1 lb. I do not expect to lose 3lbs a week, seeing as I only have about 10 more lbs to lose, but I thought I would be able to drop closer to 2lbs a week (seeing as this program is VERY strict and limits everything).

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I write down everything I eat and have been following the diet. I get in all my calories and MORE than enough water. I go to the gym and teach dance during the week, so I stay active. I am not too sure what to do. Has anyone else had this type of problem? Is there something I can do to start dropping a little bit more?
