It is not recommended to work out in the first week due to all the changes your body is going through. Usually by day 3 your headache and sluggishness will disappear. Stay with the high protein foods and make sure you get in and get the 2nd mic & b6 shots will help a lot. Good luck you are almost through the toughest part!

A hearty welcome to all of our new friends

Jenosojnicki~
I have kept on my usual routine from day 1. I have walked 3-5 miles a day for well over two years, and for me NOT to walk would be terribly unusual and throw off my day. It sounds like you do quite a bit of exercise already, so ease back into your routines as you go along. The first week IS hard and you do feel different, as everyone has said. Do what feels right for you. I also play volleyball and bike but I stayed with walking that first week. You will find it beneficial to add in toning exercises, as Susie has said, as it keeps your body "together" as you go along.

It does sound like you are getting along okay, but I have to say "licking envelopes" never entered my mind. You certainly made me smile! Hang in there, it does get easier!

Welcome Curly QYou have made a great decision by choosing this plan. I have been on it for almost 7 weeks now and I feel so good eating this way. Thanks for all the advice. The EAS seems to be helping my hungry horrors in the afternoon. I still don't have any energy but I am hoping that gets better. I have a MS bike ride to train for ...it is in 40 days...yikes!

Now I have an embarrassing week 1 question. I have been taking the colon cleansers since last Friday (1st appointment) and...well....no action up here in the northeast if you know what I mean.

Just started the program this morning, had the initial consult yesterday.

Okay, so....

I had the appointment, got the shots, walked out with a big bag-o-pills....
Now come the questions....please help!

1) My major concern in week one is to maintain the allowed caloric intake, zero the carbs, but don't spend too much time worrying about fat grams, sodium, etc.... Is that correct?

2) Never have been a breakfast person and can't eat eggs or cheese. So, is it better to spread all the calories out over the day (choosing from the allowed protein sources, of course) or have two or three set meal-times?

3) Irritable Bowel - I'm familiar with restrooms all across the country because of this. What effect will this diet have with that condition.

4) When you look at a prepackaged food and the nutritional table says 3mg carbohydrates per 3 oz serving, how much carb is that really? Is that a lot?

5) Some of the Zero Calorie drinks that the program includes (those that I 've been able to find, anyway...) are in fact zero calories. However, they still list 1% carbohydrates. Is that a negligible amount, or should I just stick to (God Forbid!) water.

These many, many more questions are coming soon!

Kidding aside, I'm really excited about the program and am looking forward to good success. I'll take any tips you experienced types care to provide. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Troy

Hi Troy, hope you are doing great ....

This is what I did first week. Bought rostiseri chicken at Publix or any supermarket, remove the skin and weigh 4 oz of the breast and prepack. 4 oz of chicken is 170 calories.

Buy Fat Free cottage cheese and eat 1/2 cup for 80 calories.

You must have breakfast, I was like you and now I enjoy having breakfast. Try the turkey bacon, place 4 slices in the microwave for 2.5 minutes and they will get really crusty. 4 slices are 25 calories.

Buy at Costco the pre-made high protein shakes (you can have that in the morning if you like) I buy the case of 24 shakes, 160 calories each, 30 grams of protein and 2 net grams of carbs. The brand is PREMIER NUTRITION and I bought the chocolate flavor and I love it!

Buy low sodium baked ham, weigh and prepack your portions.

I ate 4 times a day instead of 3, I ate around 150 calories each meal, I worked for me, never hungry, never a headache ....

Drink a lot of water. I just drink plain water (never drinked water before ... just diet coke, etc) I just add some lemon and I Love my water now .... At the clinic they insist I have to drink at least 2 - 16 oz of crystal light for the potasium. I just drink 1 - 16 oz of crystal light of my 7 or 8 - 16oz glasses of water.

Buy some tuna cans in water and you can have as a protein.

I made my first week very simple and I pre-pack everything with the calories I need for the day.

Something it is working for me is, I plan my day one day ahead, so I know how many calories I am going to eat and I stick with it.

Stay away of processed food, try to eat as healthlier as you can .... First week is hard, but it worth ....

Good luck

Orlando,

Thanks mucho for the response.

I agree completely with the Lemon in water comment. Had to call my clinic this am to find out that it's okay to add lemon juice to water since the program seems to strictly forbid fruit for a while. They agreed that it's okay to do, so...I'm happier now.

Your suggestion about prepackaging for the day...great idea and exactly what I'd wanted to do. However, need to get to the Costco or Central Market in order to "stock up."

Had 4.5 ounces of Lemon-Peppered tuna this AM, only 150 calories. Getting ready for some Tyson fajita chicken strips at lunch.

I've never in my life had this much liquid to drink. I feel like I'm awash. Getting Sea-sick just sitting here

And just to throw this out to the general crowd...I'm really hitting the water hard and have taken all the pills I'm supposed to so far....Is urine supposed to be a vibrant charteuse color?

Status Update

Hello all! I've been MIA for a week or two.

5th Week W-I: -3.8 fat, +1.1 water = -2.7lbs lost
6th Week W-I: -3 fat, +2.5 water = .5lbs lost

I really cheated on the 6th week... Lots of parties, fundraisers and other social events... which is why my water is up. I totally kicked myself out of ketosis... Thanks to Yellow Tail Shiraz. ;-) However, I had kind of planned it mentally that this would happen. Soooo... back on all protein until back in ketosis & tons of H20.

to all of the new peeps!!! I love hearing everyone's experiences & advice.

Troy- I think the multi-vitamin is probably giving you the chartreuse color. Good luck!

Troy, the color of the urine is because of the vitamin ....

Do not worry about the water, you will be thirsty anyway, and you will want to drink all that liquid (you need to).... I used to drink no water at all before starting this program, now it is easier.

I agree with you about the "awash" feeling .... I felt the same the first week.

One more general question...

Everyone is talking about the 500 Calorie limit during week one...My clinic put me on 800-900 calories per day. Am I special or is this fairly normal for my height weight? 5'9" 242lbs, mostly sedentary. Just curious.

Troy,

It is possible because of your height and weight that they put you on more calories to start with. You may want to verify with them that you are supposed to have that many.

Another thing to watch out for is the sodium. It will make you retain water very easily. The fajita strips are fairly high in sodium.

Good Luck.

Hi Troy

Welcome to a VERY helpful and friendly group!

I am in my 3rd week and I too started off at 700 calories for my first week and then the second week I was put back at 500 plus 2 servings of veggies.

I noticed you are using processed food and you might want to try to go for whole foods, ie cooking it yourself from raw. Mostly because of the salt in processed foods.

Once you start week 2, make a to visit the recipes page, there are some really great ideas to mix it up a bit.

Make sure you exercise like walking 30 minutes a day every day, that seems to really help with the weight loss and drink a ton of water. I was not a water fan prior to starting this but because the meds give me cotton mouth, I crave the water, so drinking 10 to 12 servings a day is not hard!

As far as the IBS, I don't know, someone with more experience with the diet or experience with IBS will have to answer. But with so few calories and daily exercise there really isn't much to eliminate - LOL! The Colon Cleanser is supposed to help with all those issues, so make sure you take it and hopfully it won't mess with the IBS.

Well good luck this week and keep posting and reading, everyone is really nice and friendly. Looking forward to hearing your results next week!

Clinic experience

Hello!

I have a question about other clinics. Mine is in MA and has only been open 4weeks, so maybe it is just they are still gearing up, but it seems like I am not getting all the info. For example, I read in the package that we should be ZERO carbs in the first week but when I called to ask if turkey sausage was ok becuase it has 4g of carbs, I was told it is fine as long as I stay under 25g carbs per day. That seems like a contradiction to the material and I wonder why the physicians assistant didn't mention it to me when she went over the program.

Also, is it strange to go to a clinic where NONE of the people working there introduces themselves to you? Just from a general customer service perspective, I find that strange. I guess I feel like I should at least be introduced to the person putting a syringe in my behind!

Maybe I am concerned that if they do not pay enough attention to the little things, there may be bigger issues down the line. I might be overly sensitive because I had a bad experience before (I joined LA Weightloss 2 yrs ago and paid $1k; the office seemed a little disorganized and then a month later they shut the doors and went out of business! NO refund!).

I still remain very positive about the program. I am just curious what others have experienced.

Have a great day!

CurleyQ~If you are having some issues with your clinic, you need to address them directly with the clinic. They MAY be new however, you do have some valid issues. If you get nowhere, there is a contact email you can send to corporate if necessary.
Here is the web address:
Medi-Weightloss Clinics® - Physician-supervised weight loss clinics

Hopefully, you can resolve these issues locally. If you say nothing, they will never know. You need to bring this to their attention.

Hello Troy~ Welcome!

I would say a big hands down on processed foods. I agree with McBoo the sodium count is super high. If you have a Trader Joe's in your area, you can find some really good foods that you can prepare easily and quickly. They have chicken breast tenderloins that are skinless boneless and 3 pieces are 120 calories. I have found the nutritional info helpful and accurate. I use both lemon and lime juice (together or separately) in my water to add variety.
There are a couple of the EAS Advantedge shakes, just be sure to choose the ones that are 110 calories.

I have my own vitamins which I cleared with the clinic, they are the NatureMade brand, and I do not have the "Chartreuse problem". If this becomes an issue for you, try the NatureMade Multi and clear it with your clinic.

Have a great afternoon everyone!

CurleyQ, what clinic in MA do you go to?
I am in MA too and really like the ppl at my clinic. They all know who I am (it's been less than a month). I get a call once a week. And to be honest this is the first program that I have done where the ppl I am paying actually seem to be interested in my personal goals and my best interest. (I have done LA weight loss as well, Jenny Craig and WW). I think that it is important to feel comfortable and trust the ppl that are suppose to be guiding and supporting you through this process. Perhaps you should look into other clinics that will better address your needs?
