I had my second weigh in today...lost 5.8 pounds for a total of 16.4 in 2 weeks. I am very excited and proud of myself! I have really worked hard and stuck to the program and it is paying off. I have a horrible sore throat and struggling with that but other than that all is well. Good luck to all the newbies...this is a great program with wonderful support on this site!

Black Beans has Carbs!
So I didn't exceed my calories. Didn't drink alcohol even though everyone offered me drinks. I was so proud of not cheating for once until I got home and found out the 1/2 cup black beans I had with shrimp for dinner has carbs! I thought beans only had protein. I can't believe it. Thanks everyone for your support.

Oh dear, that is right, what was I thinking? Perhaps the splash should be a splash of diet coke instead! SOrry for slipping up like that. Thats what I used to do prior to Medi when I didnt want people to know why I was not drinking, if they saw what "looked" like a drink they never asked.
So glad you made it through without drinking though, that has got to feel great! Did the beans throw you out of ketosis TXGrl? |

I just had club soda with lime
![]() Thankfully I am in ketosis. But base on what I read I'm not sure if it's really ketosis because I'm at Large at Day 2 which I read means I'm still dehydrated even after 96 oz of fluid yesterday. |

Does anyone know if I can have almonds during week 1 or 2 or ever? I'm going nuts without them, and it's only day 3!
Thanks, Lorraine |

Lorraine, almonds are OK after week 1 in small quantities! Hang in there. Your clinic will give you a snack list after this week and they are on there.

So I really don't like cottage cheese. My Dr. said the Breakstones brand is better. I can barely choke down a spoon full. Any other cheese supplements I can have for breakfast?

body fat vs. weight
hi there!
i'm new to the site, but have loved reading all your words of encouragement for each other. it has made it a lot easier to stay focused! i am starting on my 3rd week now. i have 35 pounds to lose. week 1) i lost 6.2 pounds and 1% body fat week 2) i lost NO weight, but lost 2% body fat. is this normal? it was so frustrating to be missing out on all the good food, and see no results on the scale. has anyone had this same experience? lose35 |

Very interesting thread...I just made an appt for the Staten Island clinic. I live in Brooklyn so this was the closest to me.
I am desperate. My Dr. referred me for the lap band surgery and I am really resisting that. I am willing to try anything at this point to avoid having surgery. I am a little apprehensive because I have moderate high blood pressure. I have done the pills before HBP and I had some success. Hoping that the support on this thread and the clinic help me to succeed in losing the weight and keeping it off this time. |

Oh thank you so much Katew... how encouraging !!
We sure do have a lot to lose but from the sound of most everyone here it sounds like it just may be doable. Right now I am so depressed about my weight and my many failed attempts at other things that I really don't know what to do or where to go. I really like the sound of this and am hoping that I will have as much success as some of you have had so far. I have an appt for the consult for the lap band on the same day as my appt for the MWL (funny!) I'll be following you on the boards. Thank you so much, Dee |

Dee- I was in a situation similar to yours too. I had seriously considered WL surgery and even had some friends who had gone through it. But I am not sure that we are done having children and the risk just really concerned me. Plus the cost is significant and I have some friends who have done it and not lost weight.
I have a similar amount of weight to lose as you and I have already lost over 30lbs since beginning the program on May 1st. I have NEVER had success at any diet before. This has truly changed my life. I have a long way to go but I'm down 2 sizes already and it feels soooo good! Congrats on taking the first step!

Dee,
I have a friend who had the lap band surgery and initially lost quite a bit of weight, but then he put it all back on. He saw me a few months ago and the next day signed up. He has since lost over 50 pounds. I had been trying to get my weight off for over 10 years. I started on Medi the week before Thanksgiving and on Monday made my goal. I lost a total of 62 pounds. If you look at their materials it says "results typical". Jenny Craig, Nutrisystems and WW all advertise results not typical. That says something. Susie |

Thank you ladies for your kind and helpful responses.
I am so psyched to start the program, I can't wait. ![]() As soon as I get my starter pkg. I will join in the threads. You are a kind and supportive group. Congrats Susie on reaching goal. That is something that I have never done on any diet I've ever been on . You're inspiring. Do you guys think I will have any problem starting since I have moderate high blood pressure? I know it's totally weight related though when I lost 50lbs a while ago it went away, as a matter of fact my BP was too low. |

Thanx McBoo...congrats to you for reaching goal, going off the meds and regaining your health. I'm hoping for the same.
I will certainly discuss it with the Dr when I get to the clinic but it is useless for me to talk to my GP about it. He is over 300lbs himself and does not approve of any aids to help you lose the weight, he just referred me to the lap band surgeon. He is a nice guy though. ![]() Hopefully, I'll be successful with the plan and I can just show him that I've lost weight and my HBP is gone. My 1st appt with MWL is 7/6 , I can't wait and I don't want to get there and pay my $295. and then they tell me my BP is high and I can't do the program. ~~MsDee~~
Mine was 148/100 the day I started. Medi took me! (I did also have a conversation with my doc before going to Medi, so knew he was in favor of it.) One month later I have lost 25 pounds and it is 118/78. It has not been that low in ages... and they have even told me to watch for dizziness etc signaling low pressure swings. (In which case I go to regular physician) So what you described sounds kinda like me! If you do not mind telling, how high is yours? (If you don't want to say, thats okay, too!.....Its kinda like actually typing your weight in the stats!) Try to trust them.... and I cannot imagine you having to pay the fee if they are not going to take you! At my clinic, BP is one of the first things they do, before EKG, weigh in, and blood draw. Good luck!

No prob, if I can put on here how much I weigh, hence no pic just yet. I can type my BP. It usually ranges btwn 140/90 and 160/98 therebouts but funny thing I bought a new better BP monitor 2day and it said 98/79 which is bizarre. When I lost weight previously my BP ran pretty low so I don't know. After I go to MWL on the 6th I'll go see my GP after a couple of weeks. I'm so looking fwd to my appt. I wish I did know and you have to be very careful. The last time I lost weight I was down about 50lbs and my pressure was so low that I fainted and broke my ankle.
I had to be hospitalized for a few days and went through a battery of tests to find out why I passed out. Nothing was found, Finally they sent a Dr in that talked to me and told me that the main reason so many young women pass out is because of dieting . I had not mentioned to the staff that I had been on a diet. I just want to be healthy and active and enjoying my life. I feel that this weight is ruining my life. |
