my weigh in was at a week and a half mark - 9.8 lbs .... im happy about that but also wished it would be more ... I am retaining water because I am expecting my "womanly" gift of the month .. so i presume next week's weigh in should make up for that - HOPEFULLY! anyway ... this diet gets easier and more enjoyable as the days pass by ... and i am confident this should work!

Really feeling bloated today! I'm following my plan perfectly - but as lifeissweet24 said it's do to my womanly gift. Anyone have a suggestion to help with bloating? I don't weigh in until Monday - so I'm not worried because of that - just a little misserable!

Well back from my week 3 weigh in. I didn't think that I did too well this past week, was traveling for work... at out a lot and had a hard time counting my calories. BUT I still lost 2 lbs!! Down 16 lbs in 3 weeks. This just seems too good to be true!

Hello all, Been away for a bit - had a fun long weekend in Vegas, and spent a week catching up on life. Now I'm catching up here!

I did not do well on vacation from a carb/protein standpoint. BUT I did make very different choices when it comes to how much and how often I ate. For the first time I can remember, it was not a trip centered around eating. Past vacations I was always obsessed with the next meal, and this time (although I did over-indulge on carbs) meals were not the focus of the trip, even with the huge buffets! So I was up a little (.6) at my last weigh in, but I consider it a success nonetheless. I went right back on week one when I got back and the extra weight came right off. I consider it a lesson learned - I will always have to be very careful of what I eat, but even when I do a little damage if I get right back on the horse I can get quickly back on track.

At my daughter's school Halloween party last week I sat for almost a half an hour with her popcorn and a cookie in front of me while she colored, and didn't touch a thing. Didn't want any. My husband was really impressed with my impulse control and commented that I really have changed my attitude toward food!

So my next weigh in is Friday, and I'm hopeful that it will be a big one. I'm kicking myself a little over the small setback, but patting myself on the back for not getting completely derailed!

I'm new and this is my day 3. I struggled with taking the AS because in the past, they have made me jittery. I started feeling the same way yesterday and decided to try a few days without them. I am staying pretty hungry though and mentally am a mess. I feel like I want to cry all the time. Is this normal for coming off carbs and sugar? I really want this diet to work for me but keep thinking, how am I going to keep this up for the rest of my life? I went and got my second shot today so I hope that helps with my energy and mood.
Any advice on what to do about the hunger and can I chew sugar free gum even though it says on the pack there are >1 carb?

Thanks!!

Hi Michelle,
I'm only in my 4th week, but I am here to tell you that each week gets easier on this plan. The first week was TERRIBLE for me, it took all I had to stick with it. I was very moody and depressed! I am glad I did because I lost 10 lbs that first week! I had to take my AS to stick with it the first few weeks, but they never made me jittery. YES, chew sugar free gum... I do all the time. Hang in there! You will be done w/ week one in no time. Are you in ketosis yet? I started feeling better once I was in ketosis.

Michelle ~ I am here to tell you to stick it out... you will get past this awful stage & feel better than ever within the next week. Some people compare the 1st week to having the flu... day 4 & 5 were my worst, then I woke up feeling great on day 6. SF gum is a good idea; I also stocked up on every flavor of Crystal Light & Powerade Zero.... you need to drink lots and lots of water ~ among other things, it helps alleviate the hunger. Remember that this is just the 1st week ~ over the next few weeks, all of your food groups will be added back in gradually. Ask questions of your clinic; call them between appointments if you feel the need. Mine had handouts for each stage of the "diet." You can do this, and once you start feeling better physically & emotionally, you'll WANT to keep up healthy eating. Oh ~ and come here often, as you will find answers to many questions, and lots of support for the bad AND good times!!

I am now in week four and have lost a total of 16.8lbs! It was a little tough this last weekend with my husband snarfing down Halloween chocolate (seriously, the man is a Hoover). But then I thought, I can choose chocolate or I can choose healthy...hmmm, let me think...I choose healthy!!!

Susan,
We are just a day apart at the clinic; I usually go on Thurs, for my mid-week. I'm actually in my first semester of nursing school at PSC (another motivation for losing the weight!) It's funny, the different cravings we have, mine is always for cheese, thank goodness for Laughing Cow!!

Hi Michelle! Hang in there! It does get better. And to answer your question, YES, what you are experiencing is totally normal when you're coming off carbs and sugar. All that processed food really does a number on you, and the withdrawal can be really, really difficult. I equate my first week on Medi to many years ago when I stopped drinking caffeine... headaches, moodiness, and a disruption in my sleep patterns. This was almost as bad, but the good news is that it lasted less than a week (caffeine withdrawal lasted over a month!). And by the end of the week when I started to feel better, I was down almost 8 pounds!

And these symptoms are not unique to Medi - any low carb "induction" period (to borrow from Atkins) will include this type of withdrawal. It's a difficult but necessary process, and when you're through it you're already much healthier (and thinner!)

Someone on this board (sorry, don't remember who!) suggested drinking broth to help curtail the hunger pangs. Personally I stay away from gum, only because it reminds me of eating! But lots of people have a lot of success with that as a tool too. My first week, turkey pepperoni was a life saver. I found it filling and satisfying as a snack, and it took my a little while to eat 14 of them, so it lasted a little while!

There's lots of help and support on these boards, so you've come to the right place. You can do this, and you'll be feeling a whole lot better really soon.

OMG Michelle - that is absolutely normal ... my first week i was a WRECK ... not only was i experiencing physical symptoms but i was an emotional trainwreck ... i could NOT stop thinking about food .. binging ...foods i would never even eat off this diet ... it was consuming my mind and making me crazy!! after the first week it gets better within both aspects (physically and emotionally) as you see you are allowed to eat a wider assortment of foods and the "withdrawal" symptoms will have dissipated .. THANK GOD - just hang in there!

What a difference a little (okay, a lot) of water makes!!!

I've been struggling a bit this week - staying on plan but not seeing much movement on my home scale. I know, I shouldn't weigh every day, but it does help me stay accountable. Anyway, I knew I wasn't drinking enough fluids, and make a conscious effort yesterday to get in at least 80oz, and guess what? The scale was down this morning. Down a lot. While I know it will fluxuate from day to day, the water seems to explain why things were stuck. So I went to the grocery store and loaded up on Powerade Zero! Usually I keep it in the back of my car (now that it's cooler outside) so I always have some. I've replenished, and I'm ready to go.

So drink your fluids friends - it really makes a big difference!

Well said, DivaDeb!

But toss those scales, girl. Bad bad habit! For the acute phase, it really is best to hide them when the sun doesn't shine. You are accountable in the clothes you put on every day, at what image you see in the mirror, and in every bite and ounce you put into your mouth and journal about. If you are consciously making good decisions, your weekly weigh in will show you the results.

Hang in there, you are doing very well!

Michelle- Congrats on completing week 1. I was so disgusted with my body and so excited to be doing something about it that it carried me emotionally through week 1. Physically I was breaking out into sweats and shaking. Have you tried taking 1/2 of the AS? I have a tendency toward heart palpitations and I started on 1/2 3-times per day. Now I only take 2/day. The third one makes me a little wirey and I don't need it. Did you talk to your clinic about the side effects?

Wait a minute, I said "it's all uphill from here"!!! I must have been tired when I wrote that - I meant that it's all DOWNHILL from here! The first week is by far the hardest, and once you're through it the program becomes much, much easier.

Hello all! I am a mommy struggling with my weight. I'm really glad I found this site. I was on yesterday and read some good tips. This is my first week and I have my weigh-in tomorrow. I'm really excited and really nervous. I wish I found this site a week ago. I was really struggling about different food choices and I had a lot of questions. I was thinking about food all the time. I can't wait to start eating fruits and vegetables again. I look forward to hearing more tips and stories from all of you!

This IS the one that works! You just need 100% commitment of body, mind and heart to make it so. This is NOT a magic bullet or quick fix. It IS a major lifestyle change. That is why commitment is so important!

Good luck to you on your journey!

Hi,

I've been reading this thread and decided to make the call to MWL. My first appointment is next week and I can't wait to start! Just curious if you all buy the vitamins, supplements, MWL foods and shakes. Trying to figure out what extras are going to cost and what is really necessary to be successful on this program. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks!

I purchased everything right at the beginning, and then found alternatives as I went along. I still buy the Cinnamon pecan bars though.

I had my week two weigh in yesterday and was down 4 more pounds!! Total of 11 in two weeks!!!!

Question: I know we are supposed to get 500 calories of protein and 2 veggies or 1 veggie 1 fruit. In the week 3 hand out there is a recipe for hot chocolate and some other recipes to. Where exactly does that fit in to this diet? I would love to drink that, but not sure where to fit it in.

Thanks in advance, you guys are so helpful!!

Michelle- I'm not familiar with the hot chocolate recipe but you are allowed 3 optional snacks/week week 2 and beyond. I am sure it could fit in as a snack. Just be careful, sometimes anything chocolate is a trigger for me. Even protein bars, shakes, etc.

The vitamins are included. I'm still buying the fat burners and colon cleanser. I can't tolerate the caffeine in most fat burners, so the Medi ones work well for me. Everything else I'm buying other brands now.
