"I think that I felt so weak on Days 5-7 because I had been eating SO much sugar before. I went off sugar, carbs and caffeine all at once. My body didn't know what to think!"
Thanks, Nance & Redi ~ your support means a lot. I was hoping to feel great all week & now today, I even feel a little nauseous... One of my big "give ups" has been alcohol. I was drinking far too much Miller Lite & I guess my body is dealing with that as well as adjusting to no carbs. I will plow through this, though, as ya'll have done, and succeed! |

Ok, Week 4 over and I am back on track.. I lost 3.5 lbs and my numbers look really good compaired to last week... The only thing is now my husband just found out that he will be losing his monthly bonus from the Military (he switched positions) and so we will be out 450 a month.. I don't know if I will be able to afford this anymore... I did talk to them and they said to let them know and they will try to work something out.. I don't want to stop as I am doing so good!!!

Christiansmom: I've heard that some people are allowed to go to their clinics every 2 weeks (they get the appetite suppressant for 2 weeks, too). If that will help, see what they say. I don't know how often you can get the injections if you do that. I found it helpful to mentally total up all the JUNK I was eating, and it helped me to justify the cost. Hang in there, everybody. The best is yet to come! |

week 1 results
Well, today I went in for my week 1 results.
I lost 5.5 lbs (3.5 lbs of fat). The ladies said that was great but I think I had been expecting to lose more given that my 3 closest friends had dropped 10-12 lbs the first week. These girls all had 60lbs + to lose...I know that since I only want to lose 35 that that changes the expectations I should have, but I still wish I'd have lost more. So now that I can incorporate veggies and fruit..should we still be testing for ketosis? |

Munchkin ~ that's great! With fewer pounds than some to lose, proportionately you're actually doing better than your friends
Congrats!! So, my 1st weigh in is Monday ~ wish me luck. I'm telling myself I'll be happy to have lost ANYTHING, since I've been stuck at one weight for so long! |

Munchkin - Yes, you want to be in ketosis daily (I check first thing AM)--it shows that you are burning fat! Only follow your MWL clinic sheet for limits and types of veggies/fruits. If I were you, I'd hold off on fruit for about a month. You'll possibly lose more with only protein and veggies, and fruits make you (me) crave more sweets....not good. Get control over your proteins and veggies first. You and your friends probably lost the same percent of weight and of fat....you are just starting at a lower weight with less to need to lose. Stick with it!

Actually, I added both veggies and fruit in the combinations required and had no problems. It may have to do with the fruit you choose to partake in. I chose strawberries and cherries and had no issues. But I will say this, different people react differently. So you may wish to try veggies one day and fruit the next while watching your ketosis levels. That way you can determine how you tolerate one or the other or both.

I agree with both Debbie & Jo - I would start with just veggies for a week or so, then check on the fruits you add. I have discovered that I can add cherries and apples with no problem - but strawberries, knock my ketosis levels out right away! And I miss my strawberries! Grapes I can do too - but I have a really hard time with the temptation of them being in the fridge (I find myself sneaking 1 or 2 each time I go in the kitchen...bad habits that can't come back!). The biggest thing to remember is that everyone is different - it really is a game of trial & error to find what works best for YOUR body. Good luck!

I agree! Of course, I gave you my experience with MWL version but I forgot to tell you I was also diagnosed with insulin resistance and though I'm on Metformin for that three times a day it's not as effective as would be your own body's NORMAL insulin levels without the disease! So, yes, insulin resistance makes me want to crave more carbs once I taste 'em. It's what took me up the scales to begin with...that and of course all my determined WRONG choices!

Keri, try putting your grapes in little snack bags. That way you have to grab one baggie, open it, and take the grapes out. That takes more time than just grabbing one or two off of the bunch.
You can also freeze grapes. They are really good in the heat of summer. Again, it becomes a conscious choice rather than an unconscious reaction to a bunch of grapes in the fridge. Jo |

I'm new to the forum, but have been doing Medi for about 2 and a half weeks. I've been following this web site since the day I started and have really appreciated all the insights. Here's mine... my first week's loss is padded by at several pounds by the fact that I had chinese food the night before as my last pre Medi meal. That means that almost all of my first weeks loss was water. I'm happy to report that my second weeks loss was almost all fat.

If you start to introduce the veggies into your diet and you test for ketosis and it is negative.....do you go back to eating only protein until you get back into Ketosis?

Munchkin33 - Eating the amount of protein and limits of veggies, you should still be in ketosis.

Understand, I am just wondering what happens if for some reason a certain veggie or fruit knocks you out of ketosis, then what? do you go back to just the protein until you are back in ketosis and avoid eating that veggie/fruit?

Didn't you receive information sheet from your clinic about ketosis? I would call and ask them tomorrow. Once you're in ketosis, and eating on plan, particularly if eating primarily the veggies as your portion of carbs, you shouldn't be knocked out of ketosis. I'm not a counselor, but I wouldn't think you'd be knocked out by the right portion of veggies.

Patience Mississippi....just a few more days til veggies. Sometimes when people are really hungry it's because you're actually really thirsty. Drink about 24 oz of water all at once. And in about 1/2 an hour if still feel that way try again. You can also make some SF jello...it will help you feel like you're eating. Sometimes I've eaten 2 servings all at once in those early days. Read all your info again and make sure you're following the plan.
Also, you might go under the LCF control panel and put in your statistics. And welcome to the group! ![]() |

Apparently there is cross-pollination between threads. Yes, I was given information about ketosis. There are instances when some veggies or some fruit may knock certain individuals out of ketosis-even though they are on the list of what to eat. Everyone clearly isn't the same, just like 500 cals of protein promote weight loss for some and on occasion, some will only loose if they get bumped up. I could always call the clinic for info but I was most interested in seeing if anyone else had the same concern/experience. Per the discussion below (in case this is helpful for other newbies beginning their 2nd week of the program)
-Thanks "Originally Posted by FLASH64 With July 4th being celebrated nationally on Monday, I had to weigh in on Tuesday July 5th after a rough first week. I lost 6.2 pounds in the first week and am very happy. I stuck with protein only until today (Wed) because I was given the week 2 diet plan a little late. MY QUESTION IS......I added a total of 1 cup of vegs for the day to my protein for dinner tonight. Earlier I had a 1/2 cup of raspberries as part of my lunch. I tested for ketones tonight and I am hardly registering!!!! I am afraid I have gone out of ketosis!!!! Is this normal? My food for the day: 1/2 cup egg beaters...1 serving string cheese...1/2 c raspberries...1/2 c green beans....1/2 c summer squash...2 oz. of chicken...tons of water. What has happened???? Answer: Test yourself in the morning. The food that you described should not kick you out of ketosis. If you still not registering - I was told that some people never show ketosis when they add veggies or they exercise very hard. I am sticking to the plan and my best is a "trace" - but I am still losing (85 lb total) - so don't get panicky, just monitor and see what happens" |

Munchkin, I think it's good to remember that your body is unique, and you will need to experiment. From the variety of responses on these threads, you can see that what keeps some people in ketosis and what knocks some people out are vastly different. For example, I was "moderate" only one day during Week 1. Since adding vegs/fruits in the recommended quantities, I am either "Trace" or "Small" every single day. I worried that it meant I wasn't burning enough fat, but my clinic says that those readings are OK and indicate that I'm still burning fat. Fluids, exercise and who-knows-what can change it daily. I wouldn't feel the need to go back to all protein; just cut out for a day what you think knocked you out--experiment. You'll be fine.

Munchkin-I've been away most of the day. I agree with Nance! Don't get hung up on checking ketones at all times of the day, I justdo in AM after first waking. Many times I'm between trace and moderate. Ketosis is ketosis/fat burning. Just focus on knowing your proteins, portions, calories, carbs, and WHY you ate that made you go up the scales to begin with. We're making lifestyle changes, not just losing weight!

1st Weigh-In Today
My result for the first week is -4.4 lbs. It feels like I suffered more than that off
... but my clothes are starting to feel better, so that's good, I guess. And, the nurse practitioner told me that the folks who lose more usually have larger weight loss goals. How nice it will be to have some veggies with dinner tonight! |

New to this
Hi everyone I am new to Medi Weight Loss and I am scared to death. I have gained over 50lbs in a little over a year and after a lot of crying and a major depression I decided that it was time to do something about it. I have tried many diets in the past but I have failed horribly. I have seen first hand friends that have lost lots of weight with the help of the Medi Weight Loss Clinic so I am hopeful that I can do the same. Looking for supportive friends to support and gain support from in this process.
