Thanks so much Debbie for your encouraging words. I have a nagging headache that will not go away. What can I do? Is this normal for the first day? Will it ease up? I don't normally have headaches so this is a real downer.

Probably carb withdrawal is part of it. You've been used to a FAST fix from serotonin in simple carbs (is what I suspect). Take some Advil if you can, drink a lot of water for the rest of the evening and go to bed. This first week is the worst. Actually, the first 4 days. Stick through it so your body can adjust to burning body fat for energy instead of carbs. That's how we lose our weight so quickly...being in ketosis. Also, be sure to not take your AS after about 3pm or so, for some people it keeps them awake at night if taken in the later afternoon/or evening.....does me too.

Debbie is right I had an awful headache the first week I was on the plan, but advil seemed to do the trick. Your body is detoxing off of carbs which it doesn't like so there will be some side effects like headachy, tired, dizzy, cranky.... Just hang in there. By the second week you should feel fine, and by the 3+ week you will feel amazing! This really is the one that works. Please join us in the monthy thread too and we can answer any questions you may have.

Confession & Go Me!
I've stalked you long enough, now it's time to fess-up. I joined on Wednesday and was so impressed with the scale (not what it said) and the information you receive.
I joined the Berwyn, PA clinic and want to give a shout-out to the professional, awesome crew there. I was in Ketosis by the end of day 2 (I know-I know, I couldn't wait until Day #4)!!!!!!! Everyone on this site has been instrumental in my decision to join MWL and I am impressed with the honest feedback everyone provides. All I can say is Let the Journey begin! ![]() Kath |

Welcome, Kath! It is very smart that you joined this forum as you joined Medi. I did 3 months of Medi without knowing that such forum exists. 3 months into a program and I was feeling really down and was ready to stray off, got bored with the food I was eating, and you know... the usual. Then I found this forum and it lifted me up with yammy recipes, valuable info, support. I cannot believe myself that I lost 91.7lb in less than 6 months (July 21st will be 6 months). I don't know how much you need to lose but you will do it. Post your details so that we could see your progress and offer advise if you need it.

Peachy and Kath! You will love it here. Everyone is SO supportive and caring. I know I couldn't have made it 6 weeks on this program without these new friends and all of their wise advice. Peachy-Yes, it is normal to feel hunger, fatigue, headache. If you gave up caffeine as well as carbs, that is enough to give you a whopper of a headache. I hope you're better by now. For me, days 5, 6 and 7 were the days that I felt the weakest. My clinic told me to add in some low carb yogurt (if you have Kroger, it's their brand, and it's called Carb Master, and it's yummy. I understand that there is one called Carb Control, too.), and that helped. Make sure you get your mid-week injection(s), too. Just know that all that you are feeling is normal, and that we've all been there and survived. Kath--You will do great! Just keep checking these threads, read the Success Stories, drool over the recipes, keep your journal. Soon, you'll be among the big losers helping everyone else and posting your fantastic statistics! |

Hello its nice to have met somone from Rich Va. I really appreciate all the encouraging words from each of you. I am tired of being over weight so I am determiined to make this work. I got on the scale tonight and didn't see any difference in my weight
( but I must keep going. I have read comments from others and in the first week they loose up to 10 pounds. So shouldn't I have lost at least couple by now? Well I know I must take one day at a time with the hope I will loose. |

Gotta put your time in following the week one plan to a "T" and drinking your many, many glasses of water daily (recommended 128 oz/day). Don't be looking at your home scales. This isn't the time for that. As your going through carb withdrawal this week I wonder if the body has a little inflammation just getting used to the new way of eating....stay off your home scales....you'll be surprised at the MWL scales. Sometimes even if your total weight loss is only like 4 lbs, you may have been DOWN 6 lbs of fat and up 2 lbs of water. (just as an example)

Starting Monday
Hi Everyone ~ well, after researching MediWeight Loss & reading your posts on this site for a week, I decided to dive in & dedicate myself to this thing. Met with my counselor Fri and will do all the bloodwork, etc. Mon. For some reason, I'm really excited about this ~ I've been pretty depressed about my weight for several years & it's not getting any better, even with regular exercise & fairly healthy eating. I know it will be hard, but isn't everything really worthwhile? My hardest sacrifice? BEER. I do love my Miller Lite
I promise not to be this chatty all the time, but very much appreciate ya'll & this site! |

Newbies - I just looked at my MWL history (I only do this every 2 months or so)...I not only have lost 43 lbs, but 33 of those pounds was FAT! Another 9 - 9 1/2 lbs was water (probably from having to supply the fat). This is the difference in following MWL. It protects our body and chisels away the unwanted fat. Stick with it!

Day #5 and I feel great. Sometimes I feel light-headed and at night I have some minor leg cramps, but all do-able and I know what to do. My only real side-effect is that my chin broke out big time! I'm sure it's just the detoxing going on here.
I went to a Wegman's grand opening this a.m. near me and had a "grand" time. I wasn't tempted with all the goodies (yippee) and got a great deal on filet steaks. As I was leaving to go to the store my DH said "don't forget we are on a budget" and I thought to myself -- don't forget I'm on Medi how much can some turkey breast set us back. LOL! I was psyched when I had the idea to ask the deli person to package my turkey in 3 oz. packets. No problem she said. Thanks for the support and the knowledge shared on this board. Kathy |

I just wanted to say hi, and say how much I appreciate this forum. I am just finishing up day 4, and have done okay so far, except that I feel extremely weak. I also am extremely thirsty. Is it possible to drink too much water? Yesterday I had at least 200 oz, and will probably reach that today, too.

I don't know if MWL has limited water, but there is such a tortore as making someone die of water overdose...gallons at a time.
MWL says to drink 128 oz as a goal, of water. Ideally if you were going to drink 3 or 4 12 oz glasses of water you'd also drink 1 or 2 electrolyte water drinks daily (I like Smart water). I drink other too in addition (coffee, ice tea, diet Sprite)...but that's me. Welcome! |

Shibbz, you are doing great!
Wow-10 lbs. in one week! I hope your second weigh-in goes well.I still feel like a newbie, even though I've been doing this for 7+ weeks. For what it's worth: I had my weigh-in yesterday and lost 3.4 more lbs., for a total of 19 lbs. in 7 weeks! I still cannot believe the quick results or that I'm still sticking to this plan so faithfully. I credit this board for most of my motivation, so thanks, everybody--and keep up the good work! |

First Week Newbie Here
Hi Everyone ~ I'm on my 4th day and am excited that my ketones are moderate! After all this work and diligence the past few days, I got one of "The Headaches" last night & was a bit down 'cause I didn't think I looked like I was losing anything. Today's a new day and I feel great & ready to go forward!
Shibbz ~ how GREAT to hear that you lost 10 pounds the 1st week!! I promised myself I'll be happy to lose ANYTHING, but more is always better, huh? Thanks ya'll for being here ~ this is my anchor during my weight loss journey. |

First week Newbie
I have 3 friends who have found great success with medi. I've recently relocated and because my routine was all jacked up I gained about 16lbs in less than 2 months on top of the 10lbs I wanted to lose.
I decided to give medi a go, I want to lose 35lbs. I went in last saturday and had my consultation... 151lbs, 34.5% body fat, 32 in waist, 28 BMI. I was shocked to see those numbers. I'm 5'1 and muscular, I didn't think i was a third of fat! Here I am in the twilight of my 5th day and I haven't experienced any headaches, I feel fine. I have been eating my egg beaters, portioning my deli meat, drinking my water. I thought it'd be tougher than it has been, it makes me worried that I'm missing something. I take my pills, I only have used sparingly condiments like mustard or free mayo. I am scared that I'm going to be dissappointed if I don't come close to losing 10lbs like my friends did in the first week. I just feel weird that I am not "suffering" through this week, and I didn't feel like I needed the mid-week shock to control cravings. Has anyone had a similar exerience? I'm looking forward to what I find out Saturday at my first follow-up appointment. |

Day 5
Hi Munchkin ~ I'm going into day 5 & have had a much easier time than I thought, too. Just some headaches & tiredness the past couple of days. But yesterday I started really losing my appetite & had to practically force down my breakfast today. They certainly were right about this prgram, at least for me ~ I don't get hungry! Anyway, best of luck to you! When is your weigh-in? I go in for mine on Monday.

I think that I felt so weak on Days 5-7 because I had been eating SO much sugar before. I went off sugar, carbs and caffeine all at once. My body didn't know what to think! AnnK--I remember that feeling of almost having to force down the food. I think it's a combination of the appetite suppressants/supplements and just kind of getting tired of all protein. Make sure you do eat, though. You'll be so happy after your first weigh-in! |

Welcome Ann and Munchin. Good Luck to you both. Follow it to a T and it will work.
I lost 7.1 lbs my first week (only 6 days). I've been traveling for work the last few days and found it moderately difficult to follow the plan. I did my absolute best. Hopefully Week #2 weigh in will show great results. |
