Hello everyone!
I just found this website and boy am I glad I did!! Very informative! I was thinking about joining a medi weight loss clinic by me, but I found it more economic to get a perscription of phentermine from my dr and try on my own. I have tried the phentermine before and lost weight but found that I didnt eat much while on it. I have also done atkins diet without any perscription and lost weight but ended up sky-rocketing my cholestrol. So I guess I'm wondering if medi is kinda a combination of the two? From what I gather week one is only protein and water but you HAVE to eat your 500 calories a day? Can anyone give me a sample day menu of 500 calories of protein?? i WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT! I am very excited- I can't wait to get in ketosis and start losing but I want to make sure I'm eating enough food throughout the day so it doesn't all pile back on when I re-introduce carbs. ~Wish me luck !~ |

Hi Everyone!
I'm so glad I found this forum! I have my first Medi appointment tommorrow and I'm terribly nervous! I've been overweight ever since I was born, I guess it's just been in my genes as my parents were overweight also. (My father recently did a low carb diet, similar to Medi as he had to put himself into ketosis, ect and lost 120 pounds!) As I've failed and given up on all the other diets I've tried, low cal, low fat, slim fast, atkins.. everything basically I thought I'd try something similar but I really need that extra push, and so that's where medi comes in! I really need to change my eating habits and lifestyle as I'm only 18 and my doctor was talking to me about getting a lapband! I know I'm only 220 but I'm kinda short and so when I do my BMI I'm classed as super obese or whatever! I'm in the process of reading the whole newbie thread and I've gotten tons of inspiration already! Hopefully one day soon I'll be in the 100lbs club, but I'm glad I found a community with people going through the same things I am.. I think its going to help me on my journey a lot when I need that extra oopf through my day Congrats on everyone so far and buona fortuna to anyone also starting medi soon! |

I was really nervous about it also, I just started my 3rd wk and I am still a little nervous. The first 2 wks were not as bad as I thought it would be. I had a few hard days but all and all so far so good. I dont take the AS everyday. There are days when I need it and I dont. I feel good about the diet so far. I am beginning to feel better physically also. Failure is not an option and I have to see it through...one day at a time, one hour and minute at a time if need be. Good luck tomorrow! Once you get throught the first week and see the loss it will motivate you to keep going...keep us posted. |

Thank you so much for this forum and thread. I started this WOE on Monday and am now on Day 4 and am SO tired. Thought something must be wrong, but after scanning the posts, feel confident that all's okay. Hopefully, the weekend will go well and I can't wait to weigh in on Monday!

I was really excited to start so I haven't been in the best of moods lately :/

Hi, I'm a newbie to this. Just started Medi this week (today is day 5) and with the exception of 30 minutes after eating, it seems like I'm always hungry and weak. The AS doesn't seem to be working. The first couple of days I was just over 500 cals/day. Yesterday I had close to 800 and still feel weak and starving. I'm supposed to play golf this afternoon and am worried I won't have the energy.

CT_Buckeye ~ It takes a few days for the AS to reach a therapeutic level in your system. If you are still not feeling the effects of the AS, I would ask to talk to the doctor at your next appointment. You may need a higher dose or a different type.
I was really weak for the first 2 weeks. I went to the gym about 10 days in and though I was going to pass out after 10 minutes on the elliptical. During the 3rd week, my energy was back where it was before I started Medi. It does get better. Stay really well hydrated while you are playing golf. Take Powerade Zero or SmartWater with you to keep your electrolytes and fluids up. |

I am new also.. I am in week 2 of Medi.. My first week I lost 8lbs.. 7.5 of fat and .5 water.. This week I have added in excercise and such.. Vegi's also (staying away from fruits for now)
I am feeling really good.. Full of energy and just really good... I do take the AS but sometimes forget to take the 3rd dose and am just fine without it... I go for the shots mid week also (only do the mic) and really feel a difference when I do.. I am hoping that I will be able to stick with this because if not, my only other option is surgery and I really don't want that.. I do have an appointment in Aug. with a bariatric surgeon but I will be canceling if this goes well..

I felt really weak and tired from day 5-9 or so. Just yucky feeling all day long. But by the end of week 2 I felt amazing, and I have ever since. So hang in there. Make it through those first few weeks and I am sure you will see a big change in how you feel. As far as being hungry, talk your clinic when you go next time, they may need to up your AS strength.

Silva, when you say "you have to eat at least 500 calories from proteins" does that mean you only get 500 cal per day but all those calories have to come from proteins?

Sunshinesweetie the amount of ketosis in your urine is determined my hydtration. It doesn't matter if you are in trace or moderate, when you are in you are burning fat. But the more you drink the less it shows up in your urine, so if you were in trace that just means you were in trace. If you are in large it means you are dehydrated and need to drink more.

your welcome.....that also applies when you start working out harder. On nights that I run, I am out of ketosis the next morning.....my clinic told me this was very normal. So don't worry about how dark the color is......when you're in you're in.

Oh yea! I have been exercising every evening and drinking a lot of water and I have been noticing that I am not in ketosis, but about an hour later the strips will show trace ketosis. Don't worry, maybe try testing your urine before you exercise.

Best time to test, I think, is when you wake up in the AM. Shows you've been burning fat all night while you slept! As long as you are keeping your carbs down you should be in some level of ketosis throughout the day, don't bother going through strips all day long.

Well, Just a quick update. I have now been on this plan for a month and I have lost 26 1/2 pounds total. I am now half way to my goal and already building good habits. Even when I cheat I keep in mind those items that make me feel sluggish and exhausted.
I constantly come back to this group to look for inspiration or even answers to questions so once again I thank everyone. Week 1 = 15 Week 2 = 5 Week 3 = 3.4 Week 4 = 3.4 Total = 26.8 |

OK, so second week done and I am down another 4 lbs for a total of 12 in 2 weeks.. She said it's ALL FAT!! My water has stayed pretty much the same.. (up last week .4 and now down this week .4) I am soooo happy!! I asked about if I needed to add in extra for working out and she said she would want me to have a small apple about 1 hour before working out and see how that is... She said if I am getting hungry for me to add a little more protein or even vegis... (I will stick with the protein)

Hi everyone,
I had about a 2 week hiccup...went out of town, had to change up the plan because I got shots that I shouldn't have, etc...went out of town again... So I haven't lost what I had HOPED I would but I weighed in today and I'm at 180...so I'm losing but losing slowly. I'm back on track tomorrow for sure - eating clean. The one thing I HAVE incorporated in the past 2 weeks is exercise...I've worked out 2x each week for a minimum of 35-60mins. Walking / low impact aerobics / Wii / running around with my kids :-). I'm adding 1 more day each week of exercising, getting me to 3 days per week and going to measure my foods again & journal. I've lost 8lbs since I started w/ MWL...9lbs since I started on my own...I THINK I'm starting to FEEL a smidge thinner in some areas but it's not there just yet...my pant waist isn't binding which is nice :-). I sat down today w/ hubby to watch a movie in jeans that just came out of the dryer and I didn't have to sit there w/ my jeans digging in my waist, feeling like I was going to be cut in half today. I remember 3 weeks ago, I took my kids to the movies and I secretly unbuttoned the top buttons in my jeans because they were digging in my gut and I was miserable. I didn't even THINK about them tonight! SAME jeans too. In fact, I wasn't uncomfortable in them tonight at all, WOOHOOO!! I don't LOOK any different but I know that generally comes at around 15lbs... I had originally hoped to be at 175 by July 7th...I will strive for at LEAST 177 with LOTS of water :-).
