Portable Snacks

Hey, I have a hair salon appointment this afternoon. Any ideas for week 1 snacks I could bring in case I'm hungry while I'm gone for so long?

I always bring a EAS advantage shake(ready to drink) with me and a pack of 100 calorie cocoa almonds in the event I am there longer than usual and I am normally there for hours.

Hi SuperShar,
I know that it's processed but at 80 calories, 1.5g of fat 1 or 2 carbs depending on the flavor and it tastes great...I ordered a box of OsTrim beef snacks from Amazon. I first tried them at our gym where I took my kids to friend's Bday party and they were serving pizza on my 2nd or 3rd day. Talk about cravings! Someone offered me a slice right under my nose and it took all I had to decline. I DID come prepared with snacks and drinks but nothing smelled as good as the hot pizza so I had to get up and step away. LUCKILY it was in the gym's restaurant and they had these sticks there.

I got an Original Flavor and Peppered flavor at the gym...tried 1/2 of each and I like the Original best. It HONESTLY tastes like a Slim Jim! I thought they were supposed to be really dry like mine at the gym but we got them from Amazon and they are actually much more moist without being greasy. VERY flavorful.

I won't eat them every day but we're leaving on a short Father's Day trip to an overnight waterpark there and the only restaurant they have there is Pizza Hut so I ordered these so I could have 1 to address my cravings when my family chows down on pizza. :-)

I have an EAS ready to drink shake but since it's higher in calories than the Syntrax Nectar protein powders, I just add a scoop of protein powder to an empty water bottle if I plan to drink it later (bacteria CAN harbor if you premix it and don't drink it soon) and bring some bottled water with me. Or if I'm going to drink it on an errand and fairly soon, I'll just mix it before hand and drink it there. I'll be bringing my EAS shakes with me on our trip though. HOPE I like them! :-)

I bring my cooler EVERYWHERE so I don't know if you feel comfortable with this but I've even stepped out to my car for a second if I"m somewhere for a while and got a slice of deli meat rolled up and squirted mustard on it to help the hungries. Of course, take a bunch of water with you :-).

Nuts would be awesome but we can't have nuts in our home (allergies).
It may help you to have some flavored water if you get tempted by the free wine, soda, juices that some salons offer?

Thank you everyone, I appreciate your kind words. I am certainly going to continue on my road to wellness. I just will do it a bit differently. I have been taking mb12 for years (intranasal and sublingual) so I'll just go back to that until I decide where I'm ordering mb12 shots from. (There are weight loss centers who mail them out in the US). I'll just have hubby stick me :-).

After researching a bit, I'm really surprised that this wasn't someone well known in their company as other weight loss centers who offer shots / lipotropics state this left and right. They were really behind the 8 ball on this and I was told they are going to inform their corporate office to dessiminate the information.

Erin,
I am not disputing what your NP said but the ONLY preservatives in their shots - according to their compounding pharmacist is benzyl alcohol which is NOT in any of their supplements. I had our center call their compounding pharmacy and give me the list of ingredients prior to starting because I didn't want any mercury or aluminum injected in me...(of course it did list the methionine but I had no idea it contained sulfa).

You may be allergic to sulfa and maybe also another ingredient? That does sound really scary and I'm glad you are alright now. I wonder what ingredients you are allergic to? It's hard to pinpoint them sometimes.

Erin,
One more thing...sulfa and sulfites are different compounds. IF you are allergic to sulfites, then it would be worthwhile to start reading allery labels to see if your body reacts to them or not. Here is an easy to read explanation on the differences. They can get very confusing...in fact the DOCTOR at MWL kept going on and on about how it must be so hard for me because "it's" in EVERYTHING from eggs to wine to shampoos, etc and I had to tell her that they are entirely different compounds and not at all the same!?!

Trying week 1 diet to see if I can shake some ketosis back into my system. Been out of ketosis for a couple of weeks -- still losing, but smaller amounts. Is EAS Carb Advantage acceptable for week 1? I can't stand the MWL shake.

Cool. Thanks for the suggestions. I froze a shake and some water, so they should keep well while I'm out.

I am going back to week 1 for a few days. I was trace ketosis yesterday for the first time. I know that has a lot to do with water and being in ketosis is in even in trace but still I don't think it could hurt. Plus I am only 12lbs away from my first goal so I think it would be helpful for a jumpstart to make it those last few pounds. So wish me luck. I'm right with you guys this week!

Good morning, all! I can't believe this is day 8, and I feel just fine. I go weigh-in this morning. Was at the hair salon for 3 hours yesterday and even when I left I wasn't really hungry. I had a still-cool protein shake on hand to drink on my way home.

Welcome back to week one, Lins and Txntv, and I'm sure you will meet your goal.

Good luck today, everyone, and happy Friday!

I spent all morning reading this thread to make sure I didn't overlook something (sorry for asking about EAS when it was answered deep in the conversation.). Finished day 1 of my return to week 1 and still not in ketosis. Grrr...

I studied my journal (DAILY since Day 1) and I cannot find anything that would've kicked me out of ketosis. The foods I had in the days before being kicked out were foods I have had successfully while in ketosis.

I studied the ketosis thread, of course. What makes no sense is that I have been in ketosis for over two months out of the three months I've been on MWL. I've worked out the whole time -- except week 1, too dang tired.

I know ketosis is just a measure of what makes it through the urine -- but it's baffling considering my history.

Perhaps your ketostix are not very good now--wonder if the humidity has affected them?

They're fine ... I bought another from Walmart and same thing. Used both today. And they're kept in a very dry place.

Hmmm....are you replacing 1/2 of your workout calories with protein so that your body doesn't start burning muscle instead of fat?

Yep. Been doing that the whole time without affecting the sticks, too.

Same water. Exercise -- hard to say because tennis season ended (I only played once or twice a week, but cals burned and time spent were higher than without tennis).

So I exported my exercise and diet journal. It's hard to compare as June is not over yet. I logged 971 mins in April. 1194 in May. 730 in June (thru today with 11 days left). If I calculate 19 days of May, it's 723 minutes -- only seven minutes difference. The negative ketosis begin in the first week of June.

Hey, that's it! School was out on June 4 and my body didn't like it! I appreciate everyone's help figuring out this mystery.

Doing week 1 stuff but slipped up... in exercise. I planned to just do a 30 min walk and not burn many calories as I don't want to make up so many calories in meat.

Well, I guess between the heat and my occasional jogging (I guess I wanted to get my heart pumping and didn't want to lose my jogging work) -- I burned 300 in 35 (heart rate monitor). Yet, when I did indoor walk/jogging (more jogging here than today!) for 40 minutes the other day, it was only 230 cals. Go figure.

I would think that it's the extra workout. The morning after my runs I am usually out of ketosis but back in by that night. My clinic said it was very normal to how negative ketosis on days that I ran hard, but I was really still in ketosis it just doesn't show up in urine tests.

I did week one today except I did have a wedge of laughing cow cheese. I'll still claim it.....LOL

Hi, all! Well, I'm back on week 1. After doing so well the first time, lost over 9 lbs, I went and blew it over the weekend. Had my nephew and niece with me and totally lost control. Oh, well. Now that I know I can make it through a week on week 1, I can do it again. Good luck to everyone else this week.

One of the best things about this WOE is that you know what to do when you have an "off plan" day. As long as you realize it and get right back on week 1 for a few days you'll undo what you did poorly pretty quickly. They key is admitting it, figuring out the cause, and deciding to change your choices so that it won't happen again.

Well, after three days of Week 1 -- I continue to show negative. Very discouraging.

Throw the sticks out! Look at the progress you have made thus far. Are you serious? DO NOT let this discourage you. I read that McBoo, who is on maintenance, never did show in ketosis. You're losing weight at a lightning pace and there is nooooo need to analyze the color on that stick. Just keep up the good work - that's all you need to do.

Thanks, Erin. Actually, my husband has never showed ketosis either. I think what bothers me is that I showed it for 2.5 months and see lower results when not in ketosis. OK, I'll shut up about it already and focus on seeing results.

nsjx - Well then, you are doing FABULOUS! Look how much you've lost! Glad we are here to support you!

I have lost 7 lbs of PURE FAT in the past 4 wks, but gained 3 lbs of water...had 3 glasses of mango ice tea at the restaurant yesterday when we went out for Father's Day with my daughter.

I plan to do week one for 3 days again (or til I'm in moderate ketosis) and then snuggly stick to plan to try to reach goal in by beginning of August. At Medi today officially changed my goal weight (had been 145-150 and is now 135-140). Waist now 33" and BMI 26.3. So, still have a ways to go.

Met with a trainer a short time at the YMCA today. Plan to really FOCUS, FOCUS for the next 6 wks before vacation. I start teaching nursing students again in about 8 wks.

Those that have made it to maintenance...how did you KICK it in gear your final several weeks of the acute phase? I now KNOW I have been/am worth this effort, can do it and just want to get 'er done...the last 15 to 20 lbs! Thanks!!

Warning Label??

I just got started on the Medi-Weightloss program today. My doctor offered me 3 different types of appetite suppressants; Phentermine, something else like it, and the Medi-Weightloss Stay Slim. Because I've tried Phenetermine and didn't like the side effects, I opted for the less powerful Stay Slim. My doctor instructed me to take this twice a day, along with all of the other products. But, when researching on the website, I found this disclaimer-

Caffeine Intolerance: This product contains caffeine. If you have a caffeine sensitivity you may choose to avoid this product and consult with your Medi-Weightloss Clinics® provider. We do not recommend that you take Medi-Weightloss Clinics® Stay Slim and Medi-Weightloss Clinics® Fat Burner together, please consult your Medi-Weightloss Clinics® provider for guidance

Does anyone know why you aren't supposed to mix?? Have any of you?
I planned on starting the process out early tomorrow morning before the clinic opens. If anyone could help I'd appreciate it! Thanks!!
