Karenvk,

What time do you eat breakfast? I eat breakfast at 7:30-8am then lunch at 11:30, I've been walking 2 miles each day on my lunch break, but by this time (4:30pm) I feel starved. I don't get home to eat dinner until 6:00 pm. I'm going to try to have something around 2-3 like you said and see if it helps. I'm just so worried to use my cals in the day at work and not have enough for dinner. I'm sure it will get easier after a few days.

Good luck to you also! Let me know you you are doing

I eat my breakfast at 9:00 am, lunch at 1:00 PM and dinner at 7:00 PM.

When I started, I used to leave some calories for a mid afternoon snack. Maybe you can have 1 slice of ham and a sugar free Jell-o for just 20 calories total ....

Are you taking all the pills? I never felt hungrier ....

want2lose2,

I eat breakfast at 9, lunch between 2 and 3, and dinner around 7pm. Since I am usually hungrier in the evenings, this helps. My advice is that you eat your breakfast and lunch the latest you can. My mwlc doctor told me that you could eat a bit more than 500 cal of protein if you were really hungry. So maybe you could eat a slice of low sodium turkey breast really slowly to trick your body.

me weight in is on wenesday morning....yours?

YES! pills work like magic!

I walk 45 minutes a day with my two big dogs ... I have been doing this for 8 years, since I got my puppies

I need to start to do some weight for my arms, so they get tonned while lossing all the fat ...

I think if you start brisk walking for 30 minutes a day and they increase to 45 - 1 hour, will be great ...

I love to walk at night, when is cooler

Sometimes, after I come from our walk, I ride my bike for 25-30 around the neighborhood ... but I do this maybe once a week ...

Karen, same thing with me and my dinner ... I have it at 7 PM because my "red zone" is at night ... when everybody go to bed and I keep up watching TV or checking the web ....

Eating my dinner at 7:00 PM makes me fell full and I do not have any temptation to go to explore the kitchen

Sybs if you carry a cell phone, set the alarms to ring at 7 am, 11 am, 3 pm and 7 pm. Honestly that is the only way I ever remember to take my pills! Btw, those times are the times I am suppose to take my meds, yours maybe different!

I had my first weigh-in today, and I lost 7 pounds...I''m very excited now I'm a little confused with what to eat. any advice with a menu that's working?
I think I have to eat my 500 calories of protein plus the vegetables or fruit and vegie. but also I can eat the accepted snacks. How am I suppode to eat all of that within my 600 calorie limit?

@ crobyninc that's a great idea. Right now I'm still using the 'checkbook' journal they gave me. I LOVE IT. I might be a lil off on some times, but it's definitely convenient. I weighed myself this morning and I was at 188...so it's working! I was fine all day yesterday then when I went to bed I was HUNGRY...like tummy growls hungry!

Today I feel better, I have less food (it seems) due to the beef, but I'm not having any pangs and I even took a walk around the park today

@ karenvk .. do you like fish? I've found that tilapia is easy to cook, very yummy, very filling and you get a lotta bang for the calories!
Lettuce is low cal, but not very tasty. Here's some others:
- 1 cup of romaine lettuce, 9 calories
- 1 cup of mushrooms cooked in no calorie cooking spray, 40 calories
- 1 cup of radishes, 20 calories
- 1 cup of spinach, 40 calories
- 1 medium tomato, 25 calories
- 1 cup of zucchini squash, 28 calories
- 1/2 large cucumber, 20 calories (about 5 ounces)
- 1 cup of celery, 20 calories
- 1cup of cabbage, 32 calories
- 1 large carrot, 30 calories

Carrots are not on the list of acceptable vegetables that the Medi clinic hands out. According to Medi, it has too much sugar and will throw you out of ketosis. We are also to avoid winter squash. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Thanks for this!

I just wanted to say hello. I am new and I am just so glad to have this place - even though I just read the posts, it seems to help me.

It's the end of my second day. Still have a headache but not early as bad (or as sick) as I was last night. Is it normal to feel physically ill the first week? Also, I was wondering if anyone has used the appetite suppressants with high blood pressure? The center prescribed me 1 three times per day but I was worried that my pressure was up last night since my headache was so horrendous so I cut out one of the pills today. Is that ok?

Oh, and does anyone else on here have PCOS? I was just diagnosed with it, which is why I joined and decided to give up my long love affair with food. Does this diet help with some of the hormone symptoms?

I have so many questions - I guess I'm just feeling overwhelmed (and always like I have to pee! haha!)

Anyway, thanks again!

Hi Missmiss, welcome!

It is normal you fell sick. Your body is looking for carbs and you are eating only proteins .... As soon as your body realizes the carbs are not the "fuel" and start using the fat from our bodies, as a fuel, you will fell better, better and then GREAT!

I DID have high blood pressure when I started the program. I was taking pills for that. Now, 24 pounds lighter (acutally 30 pounds lighter, because I lost 6 pounds before joining MEDI) I do not take High Blood pressure medication any more and my numbers are stable 120/80

Do the MEDI doctor knows you have high blood pressure? It is a good idea to check your blood pressure daily, just in case.

I can tell you the diet helps in every single aspect of my life.... I stop having my period in December last year, without any reason. After 2 weeks on this diet, I got my period (end of march) and I got my period few days ago, so perfect cycle!

I used to have acne, bad mood, headaches. Now, my face is glowing, I am happy all the time and I fell great.

I havent meet my goal yet, but I am heading there, very FAST!

I bought pants I never tought I was able to wear. It is not only the pounds I have lost, it is the incredible amount of inches I have lost!

I started the program wearing pants size 16, during the weekend I bought pants size 10! and they look terrific! I started with tops XXL and now I am using a size L

Take one step at a time. Plan your day in advance, journal and weigh everything until you get used to the portions, drink your water and start exercising after week 1. I walk 45 minutes a day.

Good luck and we are here to help! You will be amazed with the results!

Silvia

Karen, you have to eat at least 500 calories from proteins. The rest is fruits and veggies!

Congratulations on your weight lost!

Welcome MissMiss...we started on the same day. Today is day 3 for me and I feel TONS better. I'm not as energetic, but I do feel great. I figure once I get out of week 1 all will be better, not that its bad now...I'm actually planning, getting ready for things BEFORE I leave for work. I feel more in control, like I have an actual plan For a while there I felt very lost and didn't know what to do. I wasn't losing, just maintaining and still working out hard. It was very frustrating!

I've been weighing at home (I have a scaled down tanita) and I've lost a few pounds so far, so I'm excited!

Does losing weight mean losing your social life?

Thanks so much for all the encouragement - it REALLY helped me. I am feeling better, though today I had to have a cup of beef and a cup of chicken broth after work because I was really hungry. Is that ok?

I actually wanted to know how you guys handle social situations like parties with friends or work lunches (I'm a teacher but we all each lunch together and sometimes someone will bring in something or order out). I had a awkward situation at lunch today because someone is buying the English department lunch and after lots of back and forth and even saying some things I wasn't that interested in telling people (I like to bring my lunch, I'm doing this new diet, I have high blood pressure and now PCOS blah, blah, blah), I just gave in and ordered a turkey with veggies on multi-grain bread (that I can't eat). Then I came home and checked email to find out that next Saturday, my best friend (who's moving) is having a painting party (I know, I hate those but she would kill me if I wasn't there) and not only will there be tons of food and drinks, but I know that everyone will want to know why I'm not eating and drinking (I'm the heaviest of all my friends and until now I loved parties for eating and drinking).

I already turned down dinner with a co-worker and drinks with friends for this week but I'm struggling with how to have a life and still do this. I really want to stick to it - I am! - but I know if I get in those situations I'll cave and one bite will turn into being stuffed and all my hard work this week will be for nothing. How can I make it just about losing weight and not my life?

Oh and I'm already dreading our friend's annual NASCAR tailgating (May 16th) because it is total gluttony of every kind! Even though I hate to admit it, very few of us are even NASCAR fans - we totally go just to party. I know I can do the whole friends-would-understand thing, but I honestly think my friends aren't the issue (they would totally support me). I'm the issue because I seriously don't think I can control myself. At least if I was a cokehead I'd be skinny!

Ok, sorry about this long post but I don't know how to handle life (everything has food!) and I don't have anyone that's been through this before. See this is when I want some brownies...

MissMiss~
I am a teacher too and understand the eatting together and everyone ordering out. When I started Medi, I promised myself that I was going to focus on myself and getting the weight off. I take my lunch every single day. My teaching friends have been very supportive. I was very nervous at 1st. The smoothie fairy occasionally brings me a gladiator smoothie from Smoothie King when they go out and get lunch and that is what I have for lunch that day. Making the right choices is the big thing.

Eat before you go to an event and take something with you small. I have personally become the full time DD while I am doing Medi, which my friends and hubby love. Fix a dish you can eat and take it with you. You can still have a life on Medi, the big thing is not letting food control the fun and saying no thank you when someone offers you something you can not have. You can do this and this group is here to support you.

MissMiss, I am also a teacher and I made a point of telling my co-workers that I was starting a diet. After about 2 weeks, when they could see the difference, they accepted it and realized that it was working and I was doing great. They no longer asked if I wanted to order in but instead knew that I had brought my lunch from home. I still eat with them, I just eat what I bring. I started the diet the worst possible week for parties - the week before Christmas. I had made up my mind that it was going to be now or never and I made myself adhere to it. I had to go to several houses to visit family. I took turkey pepperoni, protein bars, cheese cubes, etc. with me and nibbled on it. You are going to be in situations that are real life and you will have to adapt. Just choose the best possible option and do not dwell on it. I went to a superbowl party and my options were fried chicken wings and chili with beans and cornbread. I was hoping for a veggie platter or cheese tray but no such luck. Part of Medi is learning to change your lifestyle and adapt. I promise after you weigh in and see how it pays off, your reflection on your social life will change~!! By the way, do you teach at CMS? What grades?

Also - when the brownie craving hits - fix a cup of International Coffees Suisse Mocha (Sugar Free, Decafinated). It provides you with a comforting mug of chocolate!

Mathteacher is so right. You need to come clean with your friends that you socialize with and even in the teachers lunchroom. Honest they will understand, plus you don't have to go into the details about your health. Just say you are doing some preventive medicine by getting this weight off before it gets too serious. Also if you don't want to tell that you are on Medi, just say you are doing a LCarb Lcal diet by eating whole foods and more protein. People love hearing that and usually don't ask any more questions or question whether your diet is "safe" etc... Almost everyone has been on a diet and there are even fewer who have dieted and kept it off for long.

Go to the recipes section and look through there and find somethings you can bring to your get togethers. I will even bet your friends will start making things that will fit into our WOE. People are so supportive about dieting. I find if I drink lots of water at these functions I am to full to eat anyway! Also eat high protein as they satisfy you better than say celery sticks - Just watch the amount because of our calorie restrictions.

As far as drinking, volunteer to be the DD! You will be a superstar! And if you don't want people to know you aren't drinking just have a glass of sparkling water in your glass and no one will know but you!

Most of all don't be afraid to say no and if pushed tell why you are saying no. Nobody wants to derail someones diet.

Good luck and know that this group is here for you and there is no need to say sorry for venting, we have all been there and will be again!

MissMiss,

I am a very social creature. I am in 2 bunco's, bookclub, bible study, PTA, ... the list goes on. What I have found is that my friends are so excited about the weight I've lost that they now prepare foods that I can eat. There is always shrimp cocktail, a veggie tray, fruit salad, nuts... My friends even invented a low carb alcoholic drink called the skinny bit*?h. I'm not a mixed drink fan, so I have only tasted it once.

One last tip... sometimes I will fix a plate of miracle noodles prior to going out so that I am satiated before I go, without using much of my calorie allowance.

How can I make it just about losing weight and not my life?

hey miss miss!
i had the same problems my first week, whats your email address? I still go out and drink. I talked to the dr. at medi about it and we worked out a plan of what to drink and how much to make sure i still lose weight and maintain somewhat of a fun social life. Cause, being honest, im 26 and love to party and its not realistic for me to even consider doing a plan where i cant have a good time, it just wouldnt ever work in the end. So, i only eat what is on plan at bars or parties. Bring your own or have the server create it for you. I have found that when you are really honest with servers, they feel for you and want to help you out. Everyone knows eating healthy is HARD! Then, when i decide to drink, its twice a week or less, never near my weigh in day and i make sure to drink tons of water to flush out the retention. The MGD 64 cal beer is way good and is low cal. Plus, vodka only has 80 cals and zero carbs! You just have to try and make it work for how it can be easiest yet still effective in your weight loss!
I totally understand! Hope this helps!!

This is my first weekend doing this plan...egads! I slipped up last night and went to dinner with friends. A dear friends bachelorette party was last night @ TGI Fridays. I seriously starved myself all day..I ate lunch @ 11 and then didn't eat again until about 8pm. I ended up having ONLY steak, but I ate the whole thing. I was hungry, so I prolly ended up eating about 1000 calories yesterday. The steak was great but waiting was horrible! I drank so much diet soda yesterday to take my mind off food.

Then today was the reception...cake, sandwiches, punch, you name it! I was good tho, I ate my tilapia before I got there...about 5.5 ounces. I only have 2.5 ounces of it to meet my calorie goal. And lots of diet soda again today....I just need flavor! I've only had 1 liter of water (33oz) and I'm not feeling great about the day, but I'm pleased that I'm sticking with it. I can't wait till next week! This plan is definitely easier at work!

Anyone got any suggestions for makin it through the weekend???
