Ok, here it goes. After hitting my goal weight in July 2009, I have not been as committed as I know I should have been and finally admitted that I can't do it alone and last night called and made an appointment to restart TODAY! I could cite a lot of excuses, but it won't change anything so I am going to try and learn from my mistakes and restart with a "can do" attitude and get back on track.

I was very bad yesterday and today I have absolutely no excuses but here's what my 2 days have been like.
On Friday my day started at 4AM, I worked 10hrs then worked the concession stand for 6hrs to help my son's wrestling team and then came home to work a production issue for 3 hrs and my day ended at 2:30AM
Today I woke up at 6:30 and worked the concession stand for 11hrs.
I have an analysis report due Monday which will be at least 23 pages that I've yet to start. It's also my son's birthday and he's sleeping over a friend's house.
I'm home laying in bed resting my feet, very tired and falling asleep. The only food easily available to me was the stuff we were selling at the school. Baked zitti, meatball sandwiches, sausage&peppers sandwiches, hot dogs, grilled cheese, pizza, ice cream, soda, donuts, you get the picture.
Right now I feel very disappointed and upset at my self for stuffing my EMOTIONS because my stomach wasn't hungry at all but my heart is starving :' ' (

I will start fresh tomorrow and hit the gym which I missed the last 2 days

I just started Medi 3 days ago and I'm feeling good. I'm so excited to be on this journey and to have found the support from this board.

Hi everyone. I've made it to day 12. I had a rough night last night. I am feeling a muscle pull in both hips. Maybe it can be considering muscle cramps but I don't know. I have been drinking at least 40 ounces of powerade zero a day. Can anyone help me with this?

Hey Thin10,

I am having muscle cramps in both calves. I discussed this w/ the doc on my last visit & he suggested I may not be getting enough sodium so he advised chicken broth. He said there were also other vitamin defiancies that may be causing it. If the chicken broth didn't work we would look at adding in the other one's individually until we found what was the cause. So far the chicken broth and added sodium has not worked so I guess I will be trying something new next wk. Good luck, I am feeling your pain SCgirl

starting back tomorrow

I was very successful with Medi from 8/08 to 6/09 and lost 40 pounds. I got off target for the summer and have not been able to get back on track. I have gained 8 pounds since 6/09. I think it is a lot easier to stay on program than it is to get off and get back to it. I am not looking forward to next week but I know it is like magic once you get thru the first week. I have 25 pounds until maintenance and am just prayiing I can do as well as I did the first go around.
I didnt know about this web site then and am so happy to have this as support. I will let you know how I do next week. Thanks for all of the information.

Is the 500 calories TRUE calories or PROTEIN calories for the first week?

It is 500 Calories of Protein for week 1 and during that week you shouldn't have any other calories other than protein. After week 1 you add back veggies & fruit and a few other things that will increase your calories, but that will always be on top of the 500 protein calories per week. Hope this helps, SCgirl

SCgirlinFL - I am so glad to know that it is not just in my head. I kept asking family if it could possibly be the diet but they all thought I was crazy. I was planning to call the Medi tomorrow. How long have you been experiencing the cramps in your calves?

Since somewhere b/w week 2-3 b/c I asked him on my 3rd week visit. I have been adding some sodium & things seem to be alittle better.

Hey Tracy,

I am in Week 4 and still here. I have ventured out for recipes and read other threads, but for the most part I feel like we are all still babies in this program and learning & going thru the same things.

Sometimes muscle cramps is from low potassium. Drink a couple of bottles of water with potassium and electrolytes every day.

I had to resort to medi's idea of putting 1/4 tsp. of salt with 8 oz of water. I immediately felt better so I know mine was low potassium.

I am soo confused with this diet and I’m only on week 2. My clinic says the following for week 2:
500-700 protein calories
160 cal for carbs (40 grams 2 veg or 1 veg 1 fruit)
100 healthy fat (p-butter, peanuts, or nuts, olive oil, or regular dressing)
Total of 760-960 calories per day

I have 1 serving of lettuce and 1 serving of veggies for my carbs, and p-butter powder or almonds for healthy fat and the rest is meat protein.
Why am I already out of ketosis? I have been out for 2 days now and don’t understand why.

Greetings dwhite! I know that I cannot eat peanut butter (powder or not), as it throws me out of ketosis immediately (I have no idea why!!).. Maybe cut out the peanut butter and replace with another healthy fat for a few days and see what happens? I did this and went back into ketosis within a couple of days.. Just an idea... Otherwise, your strips may be faulty (which seems to be an issue sometimes encountered by other posters).. In any event, chat with your clinic.. Good luck!

OMG I USED TO GET THESE GOD AWFUL CRAMPS! Hang in there sister! When I did Atkins I got these in the middle of the night and I would wake up SCREAMING. I took Pottasium pills and that helped and also was told to stay hydrated. I was also told that if you stand on your toes (on a cold floor i think) that it is supposed to help relieve it although I cannot move once it starts.

However, since being on Medi, this has not been a problem. I drink TONS of Powerade Zero and Crystal Light Hydrate which both have electrolytes and I haven't had the problem once. Give it a try!

dwhite23...yuck! LOL. I have to give you a high 5 for determination. That reminds me of being a kid and having to gargle w/ warm salt water when I had a sore throat. I don't know if I could have gotten that down. My doc suggested a boullion cube in a cup of water wh/ is about the same since those cubes r alot of salt. Glad it worked!

WHOA dwhite...that is soooo far off from what I have been told, I wonder wh/ is correct? Here is what I can eat.
500 calories from protein
15 grams of carbs from fruit & veggies & yogurt
3xs a week they want me to include a fat like 2 tsp olive oil, 6 nuts(can't eat), or 1 1/2tsp salad dressing
These combined, depending on how I get my carbs, keeps my calories around 550-600.

I wonder why we are being told so different. I haven't been out of ketosis since I checked on day 4, but then again I am eating less grams of carbs. I am going in tormorrow and will ask. What has everyone else been told? How may calories r ya'll eating? How many grams of carbs?

I was told first week 500 protein calories only. Then from second week and on... always aim for 500 calories protein (it is ok to go over a bit) AND 1 or 2 servings from the vegetable low calories list(25 calories) OR 1 from the low calories vegetable list (25) calories AND 1 from the fruit or tomato list which is 60 calories (unfortunately as I love tomatoes and which is was on the low calories). They told me to aim for 550-620 calories.

Now, I am not sure if they give different calorie requirement in case someone has a lot to lose, for instance starting weight is at the higher range of the scale?

Ok, hope this helps!

Carbs, if I remember right is not to go over 20 total carbs. Hey, others, correct me if I am wrong. However, I never eat much carbs....I totally stay away from as much as I can.

Also you need a little oil/fat each week, they suggest almonds, a little olive oil and I forget what else they suggest for oil.

Since week 2, I've been told to have 600 to 800 per day. 500 need to come from protein (which is hard for me) and stay below 25 carbs.

My general diet goes something like this:
EAS protein shake for breakfast - 110 calories and between 3 and 6 carbs (depending on flavor)

4 half sticks of celery and 1 laughing cow for mid morning snack - 15 calories for celery and 35 for laughing cow. The celery package says 1 carb so I go with what that says. The laughing cow has 1 carb.

For lunch I usually have some deli chicken (105 calories), and cottage cheese (90 calories, 3 carbs). Sometimes I roll it up in lettuce and count that and my celery as 1 cup as raw veggies total.

Dinner is generally pork, steak or more chicken and some type of veggie. Sometimes another cup of lettuce or spinach, other times steamed broccoli. Last night though we did breakfast for dinner and had egg beaters and bacon. YUM

Last week the clinic suggested that I increase the size of some of my proteins. Generally, though, I just can't eat much more meat. So, some nights I'll eat half a cup of cocoa almonds or a cheese stick to add some more calories to get over 500 to 600. I NEVER in a million years thought I'd have a hard time eating this much. I think its all the water.

I hope this helps shed a little bit of light. I've lost pounds in 3 weeks so feel like I'm doing something half way right. The clinic is very pleased so I'm going to keep going with what I'm doing.

Are any of you coffee drinkers ? I am a BIG coffee drinker and I am concerned about using up too many carbs. My clinic said to use fat free half and half or sf french vanilla non dairy creamer. I have really been trying to just use a little bit, but I am having a hard time getting used to it that way.

What were you told about carbs and splenda? One person at my clinic said ewach packet is 1 carb, and someone else told me don't worry about it, I use it in my coffee as well.

I am doing half caff now, cuz the AS give me an energy burst.

I asked my doctor for clarification on the program and here is what she told me...

The materials you received on week 1 state 500 protein calories. Then in week 2 you get 2 cups of vegetables/salad or 1 cup vegetable and 1 fruit in addition to your protein calories. This equates to about 20-25 grams of carbs per day. This range also takes into account any additional carbs that your get from foods like low carb yogurt, or added sugars in processed foods like deli meats. Remember to always read labels for hidden carbs. Many times fat free means added sugar.

Also in week 2 you are supposed to add in the specified fats (nuts, olive oil, regular salad dressing) 3 times per week. You can have the 100 calories packs of almonds as a snack, but be sure to include this in your protein calories.

Depending on your situation, initial weight, sex, activity level, ... your doctor may increase your calories. The 500 protein calories is a minimum that you should never go under.

I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion. Also, I have noticed from reading the boards that while the core of this program is the same, the details vary from clinic to clinic.
