I guess yesterday was my "bad" day that I've heard about. No headaches or dizziness today. I know I'm not supposed to weigh in between clinic visits, but needed some kind of emotional boost last night after the shaky day, so I stepped on scales. And I have lost seven pounds. Of course, I realize a lot of that is water, but still, 7 POUNDS!!! WOW!!! I hope my will power holds out until it's 90 pounds.

That is great Elizabethgrace! I weigh everyday...just can't help myself! When I went in to my first weekly appt last week I had lost 7.8 pounds and 6.8 was pure fat so you never know!

Hello Everyone,

I have been readingg this thread for a couple weeks while waiting for my first appointment on Monday. I have gone from really excited to begin to becoming a little sad and anxious about giving up my favorite foods. Since tomorrow is my initial appointment will it also be day 1 of my program?

thinin10- No, your first day will be the day after that assuming that you will already have eaten breakfast. If you have an early appt and are fasting, then it could count as Day 1.

Welcome and good luck! Don't be sad, this is an awesome program and you will find new "favorite" foods!

Hi thinin10,
You have to think positive! In order to lose the weight you will have to give up your bad favorite food for new good foods that can become your favorites.
It's really good program if you stick to it, especially if you really want to loose the weight

Thinin10 - Your appt must be today so good luck! I too watched the boards, did some research for a couple of weeks before my appt. Each time I ate something I really enjoyed before I actually started I thought about what it was giving me. The short term enjoyment didn't make up for what these foods have done to my body and health. Yes I enjoyed ice cream, breads, carbs, but preparing myself to start the program I knew I had to change my attitude and thought process about food. At some point, some of those favorites will be introduced back in my life, and some won't. Until then, I try to focus on ways to enhance the foods I can have. Spices are a blessing for me, as most of my spices are still allowed. Don't be anxious about what you are losing in food, be anxious and excited about what you are losing in weight, and ultimately what you will gain from the loss.

It isn't as bad as you may think and it is so worth it!! Depending on the time of your appointment the next day will be day one. Stock up on protein you enjoy.....EggBeaters and packaged egg whites are a quick easy breakfast. I add hot sauce for a little "zip". Tuna (3 days a week only per my counselor) is a great lunch. Turkey or ham rolled with a little mustard also makes a great lunch. Invest in a food scale so you don't have to guess how much you are eating.

Good Luck!!

fitin2010...today is day 5. i am in moderate ketosis now. Am surprised to find that I am really not experiencing hunger or cravings. In fact, my husband had to remind me it was time to eat. My biggest problem was that I am a night snacker. Not sugary foods, but crunchy stuff, chips, chez-its. So far, I haven't had any problems with that. Are you adding the allowed vegetables and salads, ect. this week. How is that going. I really enjoy vegetables and am looking forward to the addition.

Elizabethgrace...I am a big night snacker also. The good thing about week 2 is that you can have pork rinds which give me the crunch I need! Also I have found that fake pizza is awesome! The one where you use cheese as the crust! So yummy! I have added veggies and fruit. I love being able to have grapefruit with my breakfast!

fitin2010...Do you feel comfortable with the extra food or like you are overeating. I know after a week of 500 calories, our stomachs have shrunk to a certain degree. I have tried lots and lots of diets over the years, and unfortunately end up not eating enough and NOT losing weight because of it.
Then I get discouraged and quit. Then the roller coaster starts all over again!!

No, I feel pretty comfortable. Sometimes I think I am eating too much though because week one was so restrictive. I have been on lots of diets as well and I am hoping this will be my final one. I have lost about 30 pounds over the past year doing my own thing but now I need that extra push to get the last 50 pounds off!

Hello everyone. Thank you all for the encouraging words. Today was my initial consultation. It was a lot of information but I think I am processing it pretty well. The nurse practitioner told me that I can never go back to my normal way of eating because what I see as normal isn’t actually normal. That was profound to me. It made me feel like I was ready to change. I stocked up on lean deli meat to get me through the work day. My plan is to graze and eat a larger portion for dinner, is this wise?

Determined- losing 15lbs in 3 weeks is awesome.
450ER – We are staring at the same time am I’m sure we will both do great.
BAGS- I am not a fan of egg whites, are whole eggs not allowed?

As long as you stick to the 500 calories of protein, you can do it anyway you prefer. I suggest at least once during the week splurging on your favorite protein to break up the monotony. For me it was fillet migion (at $18.99/pound... but I'm worth it and I only ate 1/4 pound at a time). Shrimp was also a treat for me and you can have quite a bit of shrimp for the calories.

I try to keep my breakfast between 100-150 calories, similar for lunch, then I can have a more filling dinner! I find that I'm usually hungriest between 3pm and dinner time, so I sometimes have a snack of low fat cheese during that time and take my last appetite suppressants then. Like Susie said, as long as you stay within your calories for the day and are eating off the "allowed" list, you're great! Do what works for your body. If you're starving in the morning and not in the evening, you can change it up Best of luck to you!!

Just finished week two!

I have lost a total of 16.7 pounds and two inches in my waist

I think one of the most important things I have learned is my body will tell me when I am truly hungry--lol-now sometimes that window is very small-between hunger and pain-but I am glad to recognize when I need food-not WANT food!

For so many years now, I am the one that takes the pictures in my family so that I won't have to be in them. If I have to be in a picture, I hide behind someone. Can't wait for the time when I can actually have a picture of me and my 2 year old granddaughter that I enjoy looking at.

I agree, my children have very few pictures of me with them. And I hate them all. Our last family picture 2004 and I was kicking and screaming. My son's kindergarten teacher has been taking pictures of us at different holidays throughout the year, I can't wait to see the before pics and compare to the results at the end of the year. It's hard to hide behind a 50 lb kid

I made it through day 1! I just sort of grazed every two hours until dinner and it seems to work, never felt hungry, in fact I am forcing myself to eat dinner as I type. I did have a few slip ups, like taking an extra vitasuper (oops). I also got a chance to see how I mindlessly snack throughout the day. After leaving my sister’s house I realized that I had a taste of chocolate in my mouth. I had taken a spoonful of my nieces cheesecake on the way out the door (I called her and told her to never let me do that again)! I am really kicking myself now! Should I count it as calories?

almost through day 1 myself, i feel exhausted. saved some calories for dinner and had some filet on the grill. i can say after 1 day the thing i hate the most about this is drinking all the water. i'm having to force myself to do it and then i had to pee like 10 times at work. it sucked. guess its better than being fat so i will deal with it

I have a problem drinking all the water required also. Have you tried the crystal lite flavored water or powerade zero. My counselor said you can substitute 2-3 bottles of water a day with these as long as the majority of your fliud intake is water. I am on day 6 and have lost 8 pounds. So far my only bad day was day 3, had heachache and dizziness off and on. Got through it OK though.

Had my 7th week weigh in today, lost 4 lbs. Thought I "gained", it was a rough week as I felt hungrier later in the evening. Mentioned this to my counselor and she said it was time to "up" the appetite suppressant (AS). She said it was typical that the body gets used to the "dosage" and then you would feel hungrier. She said that it usually happens every 5-7 weeks, that the dosage may need to be changed to shake things up. So am going to take 2 AS in the evening for a total of 4 daily for now. Thought I would share that with you all.

However, I was feeling guilty that I have to be dependent on the AS, but she said everyone is different. She said if my body is in the "hungry" mode, my body will not burn the "fat" as it should. So she said this is a good thing. So onward I go!
