HOLY TRIGLYCERIDES!!!!!
I found out at my 2nd appt that my triglycerides are extremely HIGH! The normal/healthy range is under 150 and mine were at 340!!!!!!!! OMG!
I was shocked since they said I'm young for this kind of issue (34) and have NEVER had ANY physical problems really (aside from a back injury that made me gain all this dang weight!). It really freaked me out. Luckily, losing weight, avoiding carbs and taking the Omega's are supposed to help with this cholesterol. Has anyone else had a similar experience? |

Jules- I have a history of high triglycerides since high school. No high bp, but genetics are not on my side. I was not much into fried foods or red meat but my triglycerides were still almost to 300.
Now, they are well within the healthy range! My bad cholesterol is down and my good is up. My regular physician credits the weight loss 100% |

Hi Susie, So with your intense workout are you up to eating about 2000 calories a day? I'm trying to figure out the numbers. I cannot imagine eating that much (mostly in protein) and exercising that much! How will your new job affect your exercise?
Finished week two today....still holding off on eating fruits due to concerns for sugar and I'm satisfied for now. Realized that I was illegal when I ate butter at Joe's Crab Shack and when cooking my eggs with butter. (I was under the influence of Dr Oz that butter is better than fake stuff). Now will use "I can't believe it's not butter" spray. Any other suggestions? Debbie

Recent labs show my triglycerides dropped to 104 (well within normal); my SGPT dropped to 28 which proves my liver was handling the cholestrol/triglycerides better; and my fasting blood sugar was 86 (normal). My waist however is still 36 inches, and unfortunately my HgA1C jumped to 5.9! So, despite the metformin my body was having insulin resistence still. Solution? I'm determined to be Fit2010 and will get to goal before summer, I hope! One component that has been missing in my life is exercise. That would lower HgA1C....I'm commited to the minimum because time-wise I just cannot get in daily exercise. But, I will get there....and I hope to get off some of these prescriptions eventually! Hope this "lab lesson" helps explain some things! Debbie |

In general I don't try to eat that much as I would like to drop a few more pounds, but with the holidays it has been nice having the extra calories. I probably ate that much while I was away for the holidays. To be honest I did not track my calories, just tried to make good choices, like using lettuce for my sandwich bread, and skipping the carbs. I know I ate way too much cheese, had a few glasses of wine, and a hot buttered rum after snow tubing. When I came back from vacation I was up about 4 pounds and have been working to get that off. Knowing how much I burn has been a tremendous help. Just when the 4 pounds was about gone, I started my TOM and the scale went right back up the 4 pounds. I know it will settle down once I am over TOM. You might think that with all those calories it should be a piece of cake (or should I have said the healthier version, a walk in the park ) to maintain. Granted it helps, but you will find from most of the maintainers it is a delicate balance to reintroduce foods without reintroducing the cravings. And we didn't gain our weight because we had difficulty eating 1500+ calories. This new WOE is a new WOL.

I lost 1lb this week
my TBW is up 4lbs. What should I do, intake less water? Is it because I had my period last week? Should I also take something over the counter for the water retention? Any suggestions???At the clinic they told me not to worry about it that some women retain water a week before or after their period and that it should be fine by next week. Don't get me wrong I'm still happy I've lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks but I was expecting at least 3 lbs this week. Susie,
I read through the maintenance link and it was very helpful thank you! It shows me what the future holds, and it shows that I have a lot of support in the Medi family. I would have never made it the first week without this forum. I will report my weight loss tomorrow, can't wait! Last edited by hlkgirl; 01-11-2010 at 05:48 PM.. |

Gemini- It's probably hormonal. When I am close to TOM I retain up to 6 pounds of water. It sucks. But then the next week I always have a nice Woosh! of water weight coming off!

incorrect measurements?
Did any of you find that your waist measurements were incorrect when measured? Mine was WAY off. She basically measured below my waist (right above my hip) so I knew before she said the number, both times, that it would be off. It is about 6-7 inches off. Normally I would not even know the difference except my (loose, now!) jeans are a size 32 and I know from when I got married last year that I started my dress fittings with a size 34 waist (13 lbs heavier than I am today) and ended up at my final fitting with a size 30.5 waist (8 lbs less than I am today).
Is this worth saying something or no? I was going to just wait until the second week and figured she'd measure it correctly this time, but again she measured more around the hip than my waist. The number is at least five inches higher than it really is, maybe more. I feel like they must get people all the time saying "oh no I'm really smaller than that, you're wrong" so I don't want to make a big deal out of it unless you all think I should mention it. |

I wouldn’t come right out and say that she's doing it wrong, you could just mention that the seamstress you went to the other day for a "fitting" sized you up at the waist, and you were wondering why she measures so low? That way, she won’t get defensive, and maybe give you her reason on why she measures soo low. |

Starting week two
I am trying this diet plan at home, without going to the clinic. I have a copy of the paperwork my local clinic gives when you sign up. My question is, how many calories should you intake after week one, in additon to the 500 protein calories? Thanks!

I am so pleased to report an 8.5 lb loss today! I was away on business for several days and struggled to contend with the meals out with colleagues and clients; however, prior to leaving I took careful note of all of your wonderful advice on here and packed some almonds and protein shake powder into my suitcase. Both were my little lifesavers! Nevertheless, it was not as bad as I expected! I ordered a filet, chicken breast and fish at meals with just veggies (but skipped the veggies) and egg whites for breakfast.. Love Medi so much!! Thank you all again for this website.. it provides so much more information than my clinic provides and I can honestly say I'd be lost without it..

LegalEagle--Great job! Good food choices too. Wow, I don't know how I would have responded being in restaurants this early in week 1. Now you KNOW you can do it!

Week one Results
Hello Ladies, I had my first weigh in today and lost a total of 7.4 lbs. I have to say I was alittle disappointed. After all of the wonderful posts of peoples 1st week losses I was expecting alittle more
![]() I am alittle worried about this coming week. A trip popped up out of nowhere & I am going to be OOT for 5 days. I went and bought a flat scale for my suitcase since mine is big, and will just try my best. It's hard when you are traveling and visiting and someone else is doing the cooking to watch carefully what goes in and on everything! Got to add veggies today....YEAH! Had broccoli for dinner and was in heaven ![]() Hope everyone had a great day as well. Thanks to all for the support and sounding board. |

CCCOX - Regarding weighing. No, I am tempted sometimes, but if it is not good news I don't want to sabatoge myself by either going to food for comfort or NOT eating and messing w/ my metabolism so I try to resist. Not always easy, but I try. There seems to be some that do though. I think it is just whatever works for you.

This is my third day on Mediweightloss program. Having off and on headaches and dizziness today. Is this normal? I haven't tested for ketosis yet. Was going to do that tomorrow. Thanks

Week one is over.
I must admit it wasn't as horrible as I envisioned. Down 7lbs for 6 days......................I was pleased. Adding the veggies will be a bonus. Onto week 2 with a party tonight and dinner out tomorrow. My first big challenges. ![]() |
