Go for the lower number. I'm 8 weeks into maintenance at the lowest weight I have been during my adult life except for a VERY brief stint, like an hour, in the 160s in '97.

All that being said, I feel GREAT at 177. And I think I'd feel great at 170 or even slightly lower but I'd drop another clothing size and I've already spent thousands on new clothes. If you are considering lower, go for it. If it doesn't feel right or is hard to maintain, you can adjust back up. Don't invest alot in clothes until you decide........

Should I look at fat percentage, and any ideas on how much a body can change in 3 years? Please help me, I am so lost!

Tracy-My go to food--Nestles chocolate morsels with Planters salted peanuts. Just enough sweet and salty to satisfy me...and for whatever reason, I can't binge on them...

Don't be so hard on yourself....you are NOT eating cookies, cake, bread, chips, crackers......you are eating NUTS...high in fat yes BUT higher in protein than carbs...so enjoy..El

My New-ish Goal

Thanks Tracy D I have decided, for financial reasons, to keep my Medi goal at 165. I have one week until Christmas Break and 4 pound until that goal, so if I kick it this week I can start Christmas break at 165. My clinic has decided to keep my on acute all through Xmas break because there is not a clinic where my parents live. They are writing me a 3 week AS prescription. Hopefully during my 2.5 week long break I can lose 5 more pounds. I will be doing yoga, hot yoga, and walking while at home as well as following the acute plan. My real goal is 160, I guess an extra 5 more pounds of loss can't be too bad. I do plan to follow all of the Medi maintenance plan, going once every 2 weeks. I have also signed up to receive a free trainer next as part of a college study (get paid $100 bucks and a free trainer) I still have a very athletic body and have retained most (if not all) of my leg strength from preparing for a marathon last year. SO... All in all I will be ecstatic at 160 and plan to lose my last 5 in the first stage of wellness and keep it off in maintenance.

Hey Malloryann - I would go with how you feel and not by your BMI - your BMI is only a height/weight measurement and does not take your build into consideration at all. Although some people continue to lose weight during maintenance - it doesn't happen to everyone. Seems like you have a plan - take it step by step and see how it feels! Congrats on a doing a great job!

Thanks El. My next appointment is December 18th. They are closed on Saturdays or else I would be there on my anniversary. They came to the house a while back and did a little video about how I plan to maintain my weight, how I kept my focus and about my exercise plan. They are still doing the editing, but I will get a copy when it is ready to go.

And yes, a remarkable year in many ways. Going from a new beginning in my life with MWL, being "displaced" from my job of 10 years, developing a new focus on health and fitness, losing 112 pounds and being asked to come back to my job. It really has gone full circle.

Jo

Hi All - had my worst day ever on Thursday - felt awful (physically) for two days. Just starting to feel OK today. Wow - carb hangovers are really horrible!
SO need to remember this.
Funny how such a nice time of the year can be so treacherous.

I hear ya Macauley! One of my students gave me a container of pretzels with a hershey's kiss on top. I ate several! then I gave the rest away to my students. I had to exercise extra long for that!! It gave me one of those "too much sugar headaches". I think I worked it all off though. Today I went rollerblading for an hour and 40 minutes!

Hey Macauley- Enjoy the snow! I will be heading up to NY state for a snow fix too!! How about a resolution that has an exercise focus? Although I like that look of my shoulders and biceps, I have some hanging skin/ flab on the underside of my arms, so my resolution is to firm up these bat wing arms of mine and work on tightening my abs!!

It's funny- I haven't been following plan exactly to the best of my ability so I'm compensating with longer, more intense workouts. I AM up 3 pounds from my lowest weigh in, but have been holding that for about 3 weeks. However, my clothes are getting more loose and things are firming up!! My short term goal is to follow acute phase and workout like crazy until Christmas, after that I will be traveling out of town and probably won't be able to workout much and since we will be stay with my husband's family, I will have to bring my own medi friendly snacks to stay prepared for whatever they feed us. I think I'll bring my biggest loser DVD and try to squeeze in some time for it

Hi Macauley,

I'm still here. I don't leave for the log cabin in the mountains until Saturday.

I celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary with a dinner at Flemmings. It was really nice. I had a chopped salad, followed by a filet minion brochette that came with grilled onions, mushrooms and peppers. I had my choice of side, so I selected a grilled tomato and my husband got the asparagus and we both shared. Then they brought us a chocolate lava cake with a small scoop of ice cream, which my husband and I shared. Now that we are on maintenance, everything in moderation, right? This morning I felt fine (no carb hangover) and my weight was fine. Then they took our picture and gave it to us along with 2 boxes of truffles (4 in each). These my kids enjoyed. Here is the picture they took...

and yes, I had a glass of red wine.

My next momentous occassion will be turning 50 on New Years! Bring it on, I have never felt better.

I wish you all the best for these holidays. Enjoy your family and friends, and the food in moderation. Stay active and drink lots of water. This is the most wonderful time of the year.

Susie - great photo - you look so happy and beautiful! Yes - everything in moderation seems to be the key - I have been eating more carbs but working out more, too, so I actually lost two pounds!

Fifty is fabulous! I am so with you with the bring it on attitude!

Thanks for all of your words of wisdom this year!

Best wishes to you and yours!

While cleaning house today, I came across an old picture of myself with my two boys. The picture is about 7 or 8 years old. My youngest son who is 14 now said, " Wow mom, you look older in that picture than you do now. Your hairstyle was weird." Although I agree with him on the hairstyle making me look older, I think it's also due to the 40 pounds heavier I was too!!

Hey guys, I am joining you over here on maintaince until after I recover from my gallbladder surgery! I'm less than 10 pounds from goal but have to wait until I recover to finish. I was excited by the maintaince packet and can't believe I can have whole grains again! I'm nervous about it but I'm so glad I have the guidelines to go by. It will be "whatever I can tolerate" for a while afterwards but I hope to stay well within my 1650 calories per day.

Sadly, the Dr at my clinic said no exericse for probably 4-6 weeks after surgery, so portion control will be key. I don't want to go back to Medi and have regained anything!

Soo, this is brief "pause" for me! But I'll be with you guys for "real" soon!

I know everyone is off enjoying their Christmas but I have a question whenever you're back I had brown rice with my dinner tonight and I feel totally yukky. Did you guys experience this? I know I have gut issues going on but I'm wondering if it's normal to feel bloated when introducing carby stuff back in. I had a reasonable portion, about 1/3 cup, along with grilled chicken and veggies but bleh.... I'm totally OK with not having it if it makes me feel like this!!

Jessica,

Love having you in here. Going back to carbs is harder than you would think. I think most of us are challenged by it. We either see an immediate weight gain or experience, like you did, a lousey feeling after having them. You may need to introduce carbs more slowely given you condition.

For me I started increasing my carbs by increasing veggies and then fruits. It was a while before I even dared to have a nonfruit, nonveggie carb. Now I have them on special occassion, like today, but have them rarely. I did add back an occassional potato, but I scoop 90% of the insides out.

I wish you and all our posters and MWL'ers the best Christmas and New Years ever. God bless us everyone!

Tough week - my partner just got a temp transfer 400+ miles away for at least 3 months.
He will be coming home every other weekend - something to look forward to for sure.
Yesterday I went to gym and stayed busy (I am off this week) but in the afternoon I sat down and couldn't manage to get off my butt for the rest of the day.
Completely lost motivation to do anything. Except eat, of course. Craved carbs I am sure to make me feel better - but of course it made me feel worse afterwords.
I'm pretty worried about this. My weight loss still feels new - and fragile.
It's not like I don't have things to do - just that I need to stay focused.
So one of my commitments is to post - to stay accountable.
I think I might go get a shot today at the clinic.
Open to other ideas...
Thanks all...

Hi Macauley,
Look at your little saying up there....don't stuff your face....face your stuff....there is some motivation there! Also your weight loss IS fragile, as is mine. It is a new thing to be where we are. We need to tend to ourselves as carefully now as we did when we were in the acute phase...perhaps even more so. I refuse to allow myself to slide backwards. I simply cannot. It is clear to me that this has become a new way of life, one that I want to keep. And keeping it is going to take some getting used to. I sometimes have to force myself out the door to walk...like right now....I must walk before work...I just must! My exercise is my key to continued success.

Hang in there, girl, you CAN do this!
