Great info there, Susie!

I agree, my clinic is really my safe haven when things go a little south! I still journal every day and my water is at least 128 oz per day. In my case, it was a few choices I made that were not the wisest of the bunch, and I have no wish to really repeat them either.

Good to see you, Susie!

Thank you Jo, Irina, and Susie for your info....it helps!

I think my problem is that 1,400 calories seem like A LOT of food to me....and the clinics goal is for me to be around 1,900 calories. I feel like I need to be constantly eating...which was a bad habit of mine before, didn't want to repeat that! Then I try and find Medi-friendly choices that are higher calories to cut down on the quantity (red meat for dinner, rather than fish or chicken.....if chicken is for dinner I try to have leftover red meat for lunch) but that's not the best method. Its so confusing sometimes!

Plus, DH is losing weight (basically he's mirroring what I eat a day and is down 18 lbs, very proud of him) but it's a head game because part of me is jealous to see him lose and not me. I know I'm not supposed to be losing....but when that is your sole focus for 8 months, it's hard to adjust.

Anyone else around 1,800 calories.....could you share with me your typical daily eating plan? Thanks!

I just placed a recipe in the dessert thread for biscotti bites. I think it would be medi friendly. Let me know what you think!

Hi ladies! I "officially" started maintenance today - mostly due to financial necessity. I'm hoping to still drop another 10-15 pounds over time. I'm off the AS, and I wanted to "complete" the program rather than just abandon it, so this seemed like the best option for now.

How many maintenance visits did most of you do before you went to monthly wellness visits?

Kelly -

I did an Appt after 1 week (which I was supposed to do 1000calories, 1 starch), the next one was 2 weeks out where I did 1 week @ 1200 calories and 1 week @ 1400 calories (which was today) and now I go back in a month where I should do 2 weeks @ 1600 calories, 3 starches then 2 weeks @ 1800 calories, 3-4 starches per day. I have no idea how I will get up to that many calories as I struggle at 1400, but we will see!

Congrats on deciding to do wellness with the program, and welcome to maintenance (and all of the complexity that it brings!!!)

Time to get back o track!

Susie-Good to see you and Jo...and some comfort in knowing we all slipped a little through the holidays! I am so annoyed with myself right now! I've put on some weight and needed the refocus so I apprecaite your post below.

The tell for me...back when I battled weight, I'd fight with my clothes, tight, uncomfortable, etc. For 15 months now I've jumped into my clothes without a thought...and it was GREAT! But of course, you forget, over time, how bad snug clothes actually feel!! Well, I was reminded this week and it is not fun! I dumped all of my "fat" clothes a year ago SO...it's back to week one for me!

Again, thanks for the supportive email. Nice to know we are not alone in the challenges of maintaining! Good luck! El

It sounds like some of you are struggling a bit. You are not alone. I agree with Jo, maintenance is a struggle. I also went up a few pounds over the holidays. Here is what I recommend during those difficult times...

1) Start journaling again if you have stopped.

2) Try to do week 1, only with 1000-1200 calories. This will help you lose the unwanted weight, but more importantly get your eating back under control and get rid of the cravings.

3) Drink 64-128 ounces of noncaloric, decaf fluids per day.

I came up with the following suggestions for week 1 to help patients at our clinic...

Additional Week 1 Food Ideas
Shrimp cocktail (8-10 shrimp = 100 cal, cocktail sauce = Heinz 1c ketchup + horseradish)
Pancakes* or **French Toast
Corn Dogs (*pancakes with Applegate uncured turkey hot dogs, 40 cal, 0 carbs per hot dog)
Deviled eggs (I use Eggland’s Best hard boiled eggs)
Reduced fat cheese sticks
100 calorie almond packs
Dannon Carb Smart yogurt
Sugar free gelatin
Beef Jerky (read labels for carbs)
Celery with Light Laughing Cow Cheese
Hormel Turkey Pepperoni (17 slices for 70 calories)
Hormel Turkey Pepperoni microwave for 60 seconds with light Laughing Cow Cheese
Deli lunchmeats rolled with cheese slice
Dill pickles
Crustless Pizza or Quesadillas***

*Pancakes

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

8 large eggs
A pinch of cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon xanthan or guar gum (opt. for thicker pancakes…can be found with Red Mill specialty flours)
18 packets of Splenda or Truvia
vanilla extract to taste
8 oz of fat free cream cheese - not softened

Separate the eggs into whites and yolks into separate bowls. Add a pinch of cream of tartar and xanthan gum to the whites and whip with mixer until stiff. In yolk bowl add cream cheese, vanilla, and sweetner. Blend with mixer until blended. Using a spatula, gently fold mixture into egg whites, being careful not to break down the whites. Spoon the mixture onto a large jelly pan (mine is 13" by 18")
Bake 25-30 minutes until the bread is golden brown. Let cool, then cut into 16 rectangles. Store in freezer bags in the freezer. Thaw at room temperature outside the bag when ready for use.

Per rectangle / 50 calories/ 2g fat/ 1g carb/ 0g fiber/ 5.5 g protein

**French Toast

Dip *pancakes in eggbeaters (and optionally add vanilla and cinnamon) and fry in teflon pan until golden brown on each side.

***Crustless Pizza or Quesadillas

Melt ˝ cup Sargentos reduced fat mozzarella shredded cheese in Teflon omelet sized pan over medium high heat until cheese melts and edges start to brown. Take off heat and let to set for about 3 minutes until cheese sets up. For pizza add 1 T tomato sauce and turkey pepperoni or turkey sausage and fold for a calzone style pizza. For quesadilla add a small amount of salsa, sour cream, and chicken strips and fold over.

This “cheese wrap” can also be used for tacos, scrambled eggs, … whatever you would like. Also experiment with different types of reduced fat cheeses, i.e. 3 cheese Mexican cheese for the quesadilla or 4 cheese Italian cheese for the pizza.

~200 calories, limit to twice a week

Go back to your clinic for help, that's what they are there for. Whatever you do, don't ever stop trying!

Medi ad

I just wanted to post a quick hello and say that I made the back cover of a national magazine in a Medi ad. The magazine is Better Homes & Gardens Special Interest "I Lost It". I had no idea about it until one of the nurses at Medi sent me an email saying she'd seen a copy at the store. If I could figure out how to post the scanned image, I would.

Hope everyone is well!!

Looking beautiful (as always!) Lea!! And I also just saw you on the Medi website....you're such a star!!!

My clinic called the other day, asked if I could write up a little blurb about my experience with MWL.....need to have it for my wellness Appt on March 1......no idea what to say! Not sure I can sum up my experience and feelings about this journey/transformation into 1 short blurb!

Keri - You have been SO successful in this journey. I wouldn't limit your story to a blurb. Tell it all. If they decide to use it, they can edit it down. But don't limit yourself by leaving anything out. You've really inspired so many people!! I've loved keeping up with you every step along the way. Even when I wasn't posting, I was reading.

Thanks for the mention of the Medi website. I didn't even know about it! I can't wait to show my husband. He thinks this stuff is so cool!

I haven't been here in what seems like forever. It's been a crazy couple of months, some good but mostly not so good. Anyway, I went for my montly maintance check on last Friday and was up 5lbs. That's the first time I have been up, so I wasn't too bothered by it. I am running a half marathon on Sunday (totally excited but totally nervous), so she doesn't want me to do anything different that the regular maintance eating right now, but after my race we will talk about what I want to do about those 5lbs. And in all honesty I'd really like to lose another 5lbs or so on top of that. My original medi goal was 135lbs, but I got down to 131lbs and was happy with that, but my ultimate goal was to see the 120's again I just never thought it was possible. But now I think I might want to do that. So I am holding right around 136 right now, and would LOVE to see 128lb.

So just wanted to pop on after a LONG time away. I will do my best to post more. And I will try and go back and see how you guys have been doing.

Something like this:

"Excitement, lethargy, anxiousness, energy, fun, aggravated, personal growth, impatience, excitement, goal!!! Maintenance = more anxiousness."

Lins, I think I totally know what you mean. We set goals for ourselves, but within that we set mini-goals. Even though we reach one there are many other smaller ones...I think that we continually work towards it.

I went for my restart week one weigh-in today and was down -8lbs (she said that she has never seen someone lose that much on a restart before). So I am now only 6lbs away from my lowest Medi weight. I really want to go another 7 or so below that so we shall see.

lins, when you went back for restart how much did they charge you for it? Regular fee a weekly appt or the fee that was charged for the initial appt?
Also did you take AS this week? What was the calorie amount that you consumed? Just want to get this info in case I will gain weight recuperating after foot surgery and being home-bound for 6-8 weeks with no exercise and lots of time on my hands.

I was charged the regular weekly visit, it had been 3 months since my last weigh-in. I did start taking the AS again, at the lowest dose, because I really want to lose more than just what I gained back. They said I could do it either way. I am on 800 calories but that is because I am running a half marathon (13.1 miles) on Sunday. After that I drop back to 500 calories except on my running days, and then I go up to 800 again.

Thank you for the info. Even though you have gained some weight you can run half marathon - that is something to be proud of. So you improved - I remember you were posting about running 4 miles, then 5 then 6 - and now 13.1. Great achievement! Good luck!

WTG Lins! You CAN do this...you proved it already by taking yourself back to the clinic and restarting. That takes courage. You go, girl!

I posted in the Feb thread. I ran my 13.1 miles today in 2:56. My goal was to come in under 3 hrs so I was thrilled! I would have NEVER been able to do this pre-Medi!
