Susi must be reading my mind and copying my diet plan
I still eat very medi-lots of lean protein calories with the occasional carbs.I also pig out on veggies-still no carrots etc but can't wait for corn-on-the-cob! I also love tomatoes so I'll have to watch myself this summer LOL!!!
My weakness....sweet potato fries-yummmmmm!!!!!
I'm still in the 130s-I've been as low as 128- and high as 135. I watch every piece of food that goes into my mouth and mentally calculate the calories. I eat between 1200-1400 cals/day. This works for my height.
I have an apple every day, usually before bed with a piece of lowfat cheese BUT my hubby eats 5/8 of the apple and I have the rest!!! He's lost a little bit since I've started this diet BUT he doesn't work out as much as I do cuz he works a lot of hours every day!
I weigh myself everyday-a no-no,but it keeps me honest. If I hit 135-back to protein and veggies, very few carbs and hit the gym a little harder
I REFUSE to let myself regain any of the weight!!!! I worked too hard to lose it!!! My hubby and my family are very proud of me and my workmates have very keen eyes-so no regain for me or I'll hear about it

Cindy,

If you read through the maintenance materials, they actually recommend weighing daily in maintenance, so you are doing just right. BTW, when are we going to see a picture?

Thanks to your wealth of knowledge, I did track down a D'Lites emporium not too far from my town so I will go there and check it out. Someone also said Vita Tops has desserts which can be found in places like Publix. I havent checked those out though. I wish I didnt have a sweet tooth but if I dont have something in the evening it drives me nuts.
Also bought a digital scale so I can monitor my weight everyday. so far so good.
Cheers everyone!

HI All -
Haven't touched base in awhile... life is calmer in many ways and I have learned some good lessons. For sure the biggest thing that hits me time and time again is be prepared.
I always end up eating carbs when I don't bring my food - because they are ALWAYS around = we really need protein machines : )... and when I get busy - I don't take the time to do what I need to do...
I have put on a few pounds but I am OK because I know why and how it happened - as opposed to 'how did I ever get that fat!" and I am also back on the right path.
What I find really interesting is what happens to me physically when I eat carbs - my palms get really sticky and feel kind of dirty - I think it has to do with the way my body eliminates the carbs... kind of weird...
Miss all you 'old' friends... hope you are all doing well -would love to know how things are going for you all...
Have a great week-end... going out to rototill : )!

Hi! Not being in maintenance, I am usually content to read this thread without comment. However, I had to say how much I agree with you on the above point. It seems like everything that is easily accessible when your are on the road is full of unhealthy carbs. And when you find an acceptable protein it often is crusted or smothered or otherwise inextricably linked to something sugary, processed, or fatty.

Hello Maintainers...

I'm now within 11 pounds of my goal weight and wondered if any of you could offer any insight on some of the emotions I'm experiencing. Part of me doesn't want to leave this phase of Medi. I am familar with it; I trust it; I know I can do it. I'm afraid of changing things and I don't trust myself to maintain. After many, many diets through the years and many, many times of gaining weight back and more, I'm just flat out terrified to be at this point. I believe in Medi; but I still struggle to believe in me. Does that make sense?

Did any of you experience this? What made a difference? Any advise or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Annie

Hello all, I am over in the acute phase but had a question for you vets. I am having serious hair loss due to this diet. It started about a month or so in and I started taking biotin and CoQ10 on top of all of the medi supplements. Well nothing has helped and it has gotten WAY worse. So bad I am thinking of taking a break from the acute phase and maybe going maintenance for awhile. Did anyone have the hairloss problem and if so did it stop when you got into maintenance? If it did stop, how long into the main. phase before it did? I hate to stop b/c I am steady losing, but I don't know how much more of this I can take It's REALLY stressing me out...wh/ in turn is probably making me lose more Any advise would be appreciated, SCgirl

I was told that high doses of vitamin D also helps. You might want to google hairloss from dieting and see what you come up with. It was never an issue with me. Good luck.

Annie,

I remember when you started. Congratulations on being near the end of the first journey. What you are experiencing is not unusual. My husband is going through that right now. In fact last week he would have hit goal, but he paniced and drank a bunch of water before the appointment to keep from hitting goal.

To be honest with you, I think maintenance is harder than acute. It takes more discipline and awareness. On maintenance you are encouraged to weigh every day and make corrections in your diet as you go. Because I don't want to get the cravings back for the most part I just eat more calories of the acute phase. I have the occasional indulgence, but never more than once a week. I have been as high as 7 pounds above goal (after the Christmas holidays, which included my birthday and my 25th anniversary). A week of week 1 eating and the 7 pounds came right off. As of this morning I am 3.5 pounds below goal, but I have been trying to prepare for a vacation in Italy at the end of June.

The bottom line is that Medi gave us tools to handle maintenance. You can always go back to week 1 and you can always cut out the carbs for a short time until you get back to where you want to be. I still journal and have an extremely supportive husband who loves the way I look now. He's gotten pretty hot too!

Weights up a few, back to week 1 for me. Funny how you can tell when things start getting a little tight! Good luck all, this program works for sure.

I pulled out old weight records and photos about how I felt, different programs I was on over the past 20+ years, and read how I felt when my weight was 140. I had lowered my goal to be 118-127 at that time and couldn't maintain it, but felt unfit and too many rolls at 140. Now I'm considering 130 as my goal. Did anyone else change your goal as you went along? This AM I was 157 and it just didn't seem like 17 lbs more loss would get me where I want to be when looking in the mirror. But, when I started at 190 several months ago a goal of 60 lbs would have seemed impossible!

Hello Medi Maintainers....I am slowing dipping my feet into this maintenance club! I am officially on maintenance with Medi but still following acute to lose more. I am looking forward to learning more about this phase of life...but slowly since I still want to follow acute for a while longer! Can't tell you how much I appreciate all the advice along the way and tips provided!

A hello to all,
ust checking in. I have to say maintenance is not as easy as I have thought it would. I do not want to be one of those statistics where people gain all their weight back so I am monitoring what I eat and am exercising 4-5times a week. So far so good. I uploaded a before and after picture of me, which is a stark difference. Of course I think I look like a pointy earered alien now!

I am planning on training for a half-marathon still trying to decide.

Have a great week all!

I have not changed my goal as yet on any program (this is my 2nd) but also I have not reached by goal yet. You are right about losing all the weight seeming impossible, that's where my head is at right now.

Welcome Cory and Kate. My husband, Brian, has reached maintenance too! He is still doing acute only because he is carbaphobic. He doesn't need to loose any more weight.

Hello Maintainers - I'm close to joining you so I'm starting to think of how this is all going to work. I just stepped on the scale this afternoon and while I know there is a difference between late afternoon weigh in and early morning (my typical), I was at 139! Huh?? I've been eating more like 800-900 calories lately. More than my usual 500-600. Surely that didn't cause me to gain 4 pounds? Have you noticed a change in your metabolism at all now that you've added more calories back in? Just curious! Thanks!

I have reached the wellness phase much to my delight. I have to agree with many of you about the awkward feeling you have once being let loose on your own. Not having that structured environment makes it a bit unknown.
I actually still have a few pounds to lose, and plan on making that happen soon. However, last night I discovered the Baked Scoops from FritoLay - along with homemade spicy guac. I have never been uncontrollable with food since starting MWL - and I must have lost it last night. I would say I devoured 1/2 the bag - insanity I tell ya! And of course I step on the scale this AM to a 3 pound gain- I do realize that must be water weight, but disheartening no matter what. Would it be smart to "reset" to week 1 protein only?

Changes ~ Congratulations on making it to the wellness stage!!!

Personally, I would go back to Week 2+ clean eating, including your vegetables for the next couple of days. Drink lots of water to flush out the bloating from salt. Don't punish yourself for the Scoops incident, but do learn from it. I always try to figure out what precipitated any times where I felt like I was out of control with food. Were you overly hungry, angry, bored? Is that a food that you just can't have in the house?

I totally agree. I find that for some bizarre reason, I am going through a "nut phase". I eat nuts for dinner. How wierd is that? I am also walking up to 7 miles a day now...perhaps that has something to do with it. Not gaining anything, in fact have lost a couple of pounds. I am just going to let it play out. Not eating gargantuan amounts either. Almonds, walnuts, a few cashews, nothing unreasonable. Must be something in them I need.

I use week 1 after vacations or holidays where it is a more sustained off period. I not only lose the weight I may have gained, but reset my body and cravings.

For a day after the day you had I would just do protein only until the weight I gained drops. It will happen in just a few days. In maintenance they actually tell you to weigh every day and adjust accordingly.

Thank you all-

The best thing is all the items I figures I would want--I really do not. I no longer crave a flour tortilla. I can satisfy myself with 3 chips rather then a full serving. I do know it is work and will be a challenge every day but I do look forward to it. My clinic suggested cereal and low fat milk for breakfast-any suggestions on good cereals out there?

Cori - so excited for you! Congrats!!!

I have no tips on cereal...for me that would be a landmine for me so I will have to continue to stay away from those.

You mentioned tortillas. A while back Jerry mentioned the Mama Lupes tortillas and I just recently bought those are I really enjoy them! Had one last night with my ground chicken tacos actually.

best of luck in maintenance and congrats to you!

They seriously recommended cereal for breakfast? Wow! If I don't have something high protein, I starve ALL DAY LONG! Maybe if you combine that with protein? Or do Special K high protein? I know someone here suggested the Go Lean (not crunch) cereals as well that are higher in protein.
