Hi All -
Just took my workouts inside (to the gym instead of the ranch)... I have been doing some serious cardio - and my weight has been going up. Not eating more - and I know muscle weighs more than fat - but makes me a little nervous. Any thoughts? |

While muscle may weigh more, it takes up less space... remember that. You'll be fine, just keep doing what you're doing and your body will adjust. Its also the muscle that burns the most amount of fat... so dont be afraid to up the weights a bit... challenge yourself and the you'll see all fat melt away!

I would say that the weight increase is only due to water. I am not an expert, but after I ran a race, my weight did not drop for almost a week. I don't weigh-in too close to a weightlift day, either....I retain water when I lift. But I have to say that I am glad I started lifting back in July because I truly believe doing so affects my metabolism.
I think I retain water when I lift because of all the repairs that are going on inside me. |

WOW! Now that I'm feeling motivated, I'm really planning to get that treadmill. Then I should be adding a lot more workouts to my regimen. I can't wait to go back to running!

Hi All - spent my weekend working out and feeling pretty darn good! I was motivated by the Biggest Loser to actually run on the treadmill - (the eliptical has been my thing because of the sore knees) - but the running is really amazing. The last (obvious) fat I am carrying is still in my haunches and I just feel it melting (and moving : ) when I run...
The scale is moving down, too... am heading 'home' for the Christmas holidays so I have a three week serious workout goal (everyday)... anyone want to join me? |

I joined "The Fit Club" through our local YMCA. It is a program in conjunction with a local channel. I am committed to do cardio 5 days a week and strength training 3 days per week. I have kept at it for the last 7 weeks, but this week I missed 2 days because I was busy laying hardwood floors in our Master bedroom and decorating for the holidays. I feel like I've done a major workout as my back is really sore! I'm going to ask them if I can count the activity for 2 of the days. Anyway, tomorrow I will be back at the gym and will keep my regular schedule from here on out.

We are going out of town this week Thur-Mon to visit family, so I did my usual Sunday yoga class today and I'll do my Tuesday evening class. Planning on doing walk-run on Mon & Wed but I have no clue what exercise I'll get in while we're out of town.

Good to see that there are other fellow members following an exercise regime. My routine is to jog 3 times a week and do circuit training twice a week. I can't seem to do more as I feel very weak. My clinic has me at the 500 calorie and 100 calorie veggie level. However, I managed to break through a wall which was 20 minutes jogging to 45 minutes in a matter of 2 weeks. Not sure the reason but I did not stick to my diet for 10 days in November which may have given me the extra energy. Lets hope I can keep it up.

Macauley! Great job on running....I will exercise each day with you
I do cycle M/F, Run 3 days a week with my long run on Saturdays, yoga on Sunday, weights on Thur, and sometimes dance class on Fridays. Of course, I don't do ALL of these activities each week, but I will commit to exercising each day with you! This weekend, I spent my exercise time taking down wallpaper. Hated it ![]() Tuesdays are my rest day, but I can get a brisk walk in ![]() |

Just starting back with Day 1 on Medi with my first appointment this afternoon. To be successful with Medi I HAVE to workout. Working out gives me the mental strength to say no to the wrong foods. Changing my diet alone is just too hard, but after a good run/walk or workout session I can more easily forego the bad foods, as I don't want to undo all that hard work!

Nick - in my humble opinion your calories are too low. You should be at 700 at least (500 protein - 200 other). My clinic has always had me at 800 (500 protein 300 other) because of my workouts - you really should talk to your clinic if you are too weak to workout - something isn't right there.....

Thank you for your input. I think you are correct. I did bring it up before at the clinic and was told I had to stay on this caloric intake until I reached my goal. I will bring it up to them again when I weigh-in on Monday. Down 42 lbs since I started so excited about that! |

OK Nick - I asked my clinic today and they said you were too low - are you talking to the doctor at your clinic?

It might not be just low calories. Your blood sugar might be too low. I had that problem playing tennis. During one match I felt so faint that one of my teammates (a nutritionist) gave me a coke & a brownie. A few sips of coke and half a brownie and I immediately felt fine. Now I eat 1/2 a multigrain muffin with 1/2 tbsp. peanut butter if I'm feeling shaky before I play. I had been eating fruit before I played, but that didn't work. The day I almost fainted I had already eaten LOTS of fruit and drunk 32oz of Powerade Zero.

Sharon
Thank you, I did not consider that possibility. I am going to try your suggestion as well and see how it works out. Luckily am seeing my doctor on Monday too. Everyone is truly wonderful in here. Susie I would also like to thank you, not only for your inspiration, great advice but the wonderful job you are doing in keeping us on the straight and narrow path. |

DW - I think it is more important to have a regular schedule of exercise that you can maintain consistently, than stress yourself out over finding time to exercise every day. I exercise 5 days a week, leaving 2 days off every week. I do strength training for 1/2 hour 3 days a week, followed by a 45-60 minute spin class. On my 4th day I just do the spin class, then on my 5th day I take a long walk with my husband. I carpool to the gym with 2 of my neighbors (exercise buddies), which holds all 3 of us accountable for going and it makes it fun. I think having an exercise buddy is key.
Nick - You are very welcome, but I think this is a give and take for all of us on these threads. I can't tell you how much all your input has helped me to maintain. Maintenance is a constant battle of control since you are allowed to occassionally indulge. My journey would be much harder without all of you, so... THANK YOU!!! |

Hello to all.. So, Medi put me on a 800 cal plan as of today since I am training for my next Triathlon in March. Why does this make me a tad nervous? I am allowed 1 starch now. Is anyone else that is really active on this 800 cal plan? TIA.

I cannot wait for Christmas break, finals means little exercise maybe walking a few times with the roomie. So excited to go home to my old yoga studio for 2.5 weeks should do wonders for my lost flexibility and upper body strength!

Ashley - I was 15 - 20 hours a week until 4 weeks ago... I was 800 but I didn't go the starch route. - Just added more carbs (veggies - sometimes fruit). I lost what I wanted to just fine. How much are you working out?

Macauley~ I am doing something everyday. Swim/run/bike. Today I biked 22 miles. 5k on Sat, swam around 70 laps on last Friday. I usually take Sundays off. I ate 2 slices of this bread that is made of sprouts this past week. Starches make me nervous since I still have 33 pounds to go until my goal.
Dream warrior~ I used to run outised with my youngest daughter in the stroller, but it is WAY too cold out for her now. I ran my 5k Sat in 24 degrees. It was HORRIBLE and WAY WAY too cold! ![]() |
