New to the group...

Hi All,

My name's Jan and I live in Texas. Tomorrow will be my 2nd week weigh-in....last week I lost 7 pounds. I'm doing fine with not being hungry and staying in ketosis, but my main problem is that I'm not a big meat eater. Breakfast is the hardest. I had an egg scrambled with canadian bacon this morning. Has anyone used one of the bars they sell as a meal replacement for breakfast? Also, has anyone used the Whey shakes they sale there?

I've eaten the bars but not as a meal replacement. I usually have 2 oz egg whites, 1 tablespoon of medium salsa and a piece of turkey bacon or canadian bacon for breakfast every morning. Fortunately I am a meat lover so this meal is good for me.

and gratz on your 7 pound loss last week!

Hi all. I'm in the middle of my third week on the medi plan. I am doing this with 2 friends of mine after watching 3 other people I know go through it and SUCCEED!!!! What a concept to weight loss. At my second week weigh in I had lost a total of 10.5 pounds and lots of fat. I have read through your January posts and am intrigued with the support everyone seems to give so I thought, why not join in on the fun?!

McBoo- I would really appreciate your advice on where to shop for good products in this area. I go to the Cape office. I will be checking out the Skinny Pantry you mentioned, but for during the week times it would be helpful to know where to go. Also, any carb friendly restaraunt suggestions?

I'm happy to be here, and look forward to getting and giving support!

Bars and Whey shakes

Welcome Teacher and Janjbird! You are going to love this board and I would encourage you to try to read it daily as it is quite inspirational and everyone on here is more than helpful with suggestions and support when you are having a bad day!

I do eat the bar (I prefer the cinnamon for breakfast) for breakfast about 3 days a week. I found that if I eat them every day, it is just a little harder and need more protein. Sometimes, I will have the chocolate one for a snack later in the day. However, the Atkins Advantage Cholcolate with Cocount or Peanut Butter cups are heavenly!!!

I did buy the shakes and they are just ok. I prefer the AES Advantage Shakes (gosh I hope that is what they are called). They are very good with fruit blended in them and I use them as a meal replacement in the morning as I am not a meat eater either. I have had all the eggs and breakfast meat I can stand for now, but hoping that my taste for them will return.

If you read back through the posts for January - McBoo gave us the list of AES shakes and his preference for flavor. He is right on! Trust him as he is advice has been 110% on target everytime. We have all become to trust and love him! We are his groupies!

new losers!

As the others have said about the bars and shakes, watch the bars everyday than can tend to send some people out of ketosis. I like the cinammon bars the best also. They are a bit pricy though - if you read lables some of the brands in the stores are cheaper.
I never tried the medi shake mixes, I bought a brand at publix that is low carb high protein. Your clinic should have a flier for great shake mix in ideas; lately I hvae been mixing in instant decaf coffee in my chocolate shake. Have even frozen the dannon carb/sugar watcher yogurt cups and using instead of ice.
Only other thing that comes to mind is don't scimp on your calories in the beginning - you have to eat to make sure you don't put your body into starvation mode.

A friendly forum lurker here... I have been reading all the Medi-Weightloss posts and have decided I am going to call my local clinic tomorrow and make an appointment. I want to lose 40 pounds by my next birthday (July). I do travel a lot with my job, so that may be a challenge, but nothing that I won't be able to manage if I plan ahead. I want to say how helpful all of your posts were in giving me a good understanding of the program and what it takes to be successful. I look forward to joining you!

Hi All,

Need to write this I am glad everyone is doing well. You are all great.
I however fell off the horse so to speak. Wednesday the office closed due to snow and ice. It really wasn't that bad but who am I to say, with that said I told them I had no more meds and they said see you next week, that its all mind over matter. Ok It was my son's b=day and my husband daughter and his girlfriend went out to dinner and yes I ate. I came home and ate again junk food, bad girl.
Thursday was good all day and then the evening came and the bad girl came out again. What is wrong with me?? Friday I was good cheated a little. Today was very good. I don't know if it is mind over matter but can't wait for Wednesday for the meds & supplements and shots. Any words of wisdom to get through the next three days, it would be great. Should I even hope for a weight loss.

Rhonda,
Don't beat yourself up. It is done; put it in the past. You can't take it back.
NOW is the time to get back on plan. What I would do and this is only me speaking. I would eat normally on plan and if you still need more due to no appetite suppressants I would have some lower calorie/low fat/low carb extras such as pickles, broth (you can have a lot with very few calories). Have you tried steamfresh brussell sprouts with spray butter and parmesan cheese for your veggie? Very filling.

When you go to your next appointment I would mention that the mind over matter approach didn't work for you and please note this in your file should a situation like this arise again.

We are here for you.

I had a bad night last night. It wasn't nearly as bad as it would have been a month ago but I am feeling it today. I feel sluggish and bloated. I need to remember to have the extra shots before and after my TOM to help stave off the cravings. I did go for a run/walk on the beach yesterday and am very glad the work week is back---minus the work I am going to change my appointment from today until tomorrow so I can get to the gym this afternoon. DO NOT LET ME CANCEL IT ANY FURTHER THAN THAT! Ha. I am pretty much exactly where I was on the plan when I "quit" last time. I don't want that for myself and I know...I have to...get through this bump in the road. I feel as though yesterday's slip-up was a combination of my weightloss feeling as if it had stalled, my TOM, and the fact that it was a weekend.
Going strict protein today...had turkey sausage for breakfast; brought 1/4 cup cottage cheese and 4oz turkey breast for lunch and plan on having chicken breast with hot sauce for dinner.

Welcome to February...I am going to Cancun in 25 days and would like to have the 200's BEHIND me by that point. So that means 9-10 pounds I would like to lose in about 4 weeks. That's my next goal..."Onederland" as some of you have called it

Welcome to the newbies.
FYI the shakes are "EAS AdvantEDGE" and I didn't realize until I came home but the Planter's NUT-rition cans of almonds are lightly salted and NO WHERE as good as Diamond brand.

I have eggbeaters every morning 1/2 cup with a 1/4 low fat sargento shredded cheese. It fill me up and the cal is a total of only 140 cal. I found that regular eggs just didn't fill me up as much. Good luck

Here is to a new month

WOW where the heck did Jan go...It seems that the longer on this plan the quicker the weeks go. Well I have set a goal to lose 15 lbs this month. That should put me around 194. It has been 10 years since I weighed below 200. Good Luck to everyone here (not that you need it).

Hi everyone, I joined on Saturday and started today. It's so motivational to see how much weight everyone lost! Jerry, from your photo you can definitely see the difference.

I have a quick question about the EAS shakes. I bought some the other day, and I'm guessing I can't have during the first week, but I want to make sure I got the right ones. It says that it's 170 calories and unless I am mistaken more then 30 grams of carbs. Is that right?

Doreen,

Congratulations on starting medi. It sounds like you may have gotten the wrong EAS shakes. It sounds like you may have gotten the EAS Myoplex shakes which are much higher in calories and carbs. The ones you want are EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control Shakes they have 110 calories and either 2 or 3 carbs depending on the flavor you choose. You definatly want to exchange those if you can.

Great job Lori.

It really does feel great when you can get into clothes that haven't fit in a while. Soon they will be too big and you will need to get some new ones. When you get to that point don't buy too many as you will be flying through those quickly and they will be too big.

Good job everyone! We tore up January, now let's shred February! I lost 36 pounds after starting on January 9th and my goal is 32 pounds this month. I know that the longer I'm on this plan, the losses will become smaller and I know any loss is good but I'm going to shoot high. 8 pounds a week for a person my size, might be do-able...we will see!

Jerry,

You had a great month. Keep up the good work. You are right about the weight loss slowing down as you get closer to your final goal. Good luck with your short term goal.

to everyone new. You've picked a program that actually works as you can see from our results. Congratulations to this weeks losers. Every loss, even the little ones are that much closer to goal.

Speaking of small losses, I lost 1.2 pounds this week. It would have been more if I just stayed out of those darned nuts last night. Oh well, what's done is done. I would have been thrilled with a 1.2 pound loss at weight watchers and that's how I'm going to look at it.

Anne, what happened to your picture? Did you try the cheesecake bites? What did you think of them?

I was sick of looking at my picture...I'll get another one soon...
I did try the cheesecake bites...a bit too much. I think the sugar (splenda) sent my already-craving body into overdrive. I had way more than my share and then ate non-plan foods that night....hence my earlier post that "I had a bad day".
BUT the bites are very good and I think I need to make them when I am NOT craving things and then put them in serving sized baggies. It's so scary to me how quickly I can fall back into my bad habits. I have a history of bulimia and if I am not in control 100%, I'll binge and then want to purge and the cycle continues. This plan has helped me because I feel so in control but one little thing, like "healthy" cheesecake was hard for me to handle... I think I need to have more of the plan under my belt before getting too creative with that kind of stuff. My husband thought they were the best thing in the world and my sister was amazed....at least I did share with 2 other people
I changed my appointment from today to tomorrow so I can have time for a hard workout in the gym. I think tomorrow I'll be paying for the extra shot to help me stay in gear. All night last night when I was thinking about how disappointed I was that I fell off plan (had chili...bread....tortilla chips....), I kept thinking of McBoo's words whenever someone falls off for a moment and comes to this board for help. I know the past is the past and right now I am at least proud that although I felt like I binged----it was NOTHING compared to before Medi AND I didn't purge---I thought about it---but I knew that TODAY I can get right back on the horse, go to the gym, to the clinic tomorrow and be smiling again by Wednesday. Ahh...had to get that out.
