The chicken broth really helped me today & I'm definitely going to get some AdvantEdge shakes... need something sweet!
Fuelin My Dreams,
Congratulations on starting medi. As you can see from everyone here the plan really does work. The first week is the hardest but you can do it.
Does your clinic gradually build up your appetite supperssants? If thats the case you will be at the full dosage by day 3 and that will really make a difference.

I see you are in SW Florida; which clinic are you going to?

Lorig,

Great job and enjoy your surprise weekend.

Those kettlebells are very challenging, good for you for trying them.

Are you going to continue with them?

Also are you doing any exercise?
Good luck with your weigh-in.
Let us know how it goes.

My clinic told me that the number of calories included the fruits/veggies that I chose to add.

I was told 500 calories a day, pure protein the first week. The 2nd week when they said to add a cup or two of vegetables a day, I was told 600 calories.

I just pulled out my Acute Phase Booklet and it says the following:

After the First Week:

You may add low glycemic index carbohydates to your diet if you are in ketosis.
These calories are in addition to the 500 calories of protein.

You may add 2 cups of vegetables per day.
You may also exchange a fruit for 1 cup of vegetables, for a total of 1 fruit serving per day.

Starchy vegetables are not allowed during this phase.

When using a salad dressing, make sure the dressing has no more than 30 calories, two grams of fat and two grams of carbohydrates per serving, and limit yourself to one serving per day. Wishbone Salad Spritzers have been a good alternative.

No carrotts, corn, or beets during this phase because they have sugar.

Do Not Eat bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, beans, yams or winter squash.

I can email this to anyone who needs the page. Just PM me with your email address.

Thanks for the welcome! I am going to the Cape Coral office, and, yes, I took 1 yesterday, 2 today and 3 tomorrow.

I do feel a little foggy and queasy today, though.

Ok, something I really don't know. How do you determine that your eating protein calories? Use this example of my meal's yesterday.

I had 1,055 calories, 44g fat, 14g carbs, 120g protein, 1621mg sodium

Breakfast: 4 eggs, 4 strips bacon
Snack : Carbmaster Yogurt (Really good stuff! Kroger/Dillons)
Lunch : Baby Spinach leaves and EAS Shake
Snack : Carbmaster Yogurt
Supper : 6 oz chicken breast, 3 oz 97% burger pattie, shredded lettuce,
2 pickles
Snack : Daisy 2% cottage cheese

I was told to have 1,000 to 1,200 calories per day but I'm counting all calories. Is this wrong or close enough.

120 grams of protein while keeping carbs and fat low should be good. Your Carb, Protein and Fat grams don't add up to 1,055 calories though. As a rule of thumb, Carbs have 4 calories per gram. Protein has 4 calories per gram and fat has 9 calories per gram.

44 grams of fat should be 396 cals
14 grams of Carbs should be 56 cals
120 grams of protein should be 480 cals

That only adds up to 932 calories.

Yeah, my numbers are not exact. I rounded up anything that was point something for easy book keeping. 1.5 fat I counted as 2 fat. Lazy on my part, I know! But other than that, I went by labels and, in the case for the meats, guess-timated, since I get it it fresh from a mennonite farm butcher shop. It's amazing how many variable nutrition facts you can find on line! I grill all of my meats on the Foreman Grill and weigh them so they are 2.5-3 oz for a pattie and 6 oz for a breast. I have 3oz 93% hamburger at 180 calories, 10g fat, 0 carbs, 22g protein and the breast is 142 calories, 3g fat, 0g carbs, 27 protein.

6 oz of grilled chicken breast is more than 142 calories though. Most of the calorie guides I have found indicate that chicken breast meat is 35 calories an ounce so the 6 oz breast should be around 210 calories.

If you are rounding things up it sounds like you might be short changing yourself in the calories department and not really getting into that 1000 to 1200 per day range as they recommended. If you do continue to round up, I would shoot for the 1200 mark each day and that way you know that you atleast got over the 1000 cal minimum part of the range.

Good Luck with your weigh in this week, I look forward to seeing you post a nice loss.

FlaDiva,

Congratulations on your weight loss.

Did you do anything different this week that you didn't last week?
Since you are in week 2 I guess you added veggies if you were in ketosis. What veggies did you add? How is your sodium intake? Are you drinking all your water?

Let us know when you get a chance.

Hi Everyone,

I just got back from working a 2 day conference. I packed medi friendly snacks and it was a good thing. The lunch was a boxed lunch with potato salad, cookies and a sandwich. I just ate the meat off the sandwich and left the rest. Dinner was a Mexican buffet. I just ate some of the chicken fajita meat. I'm really hungry (and tired now). I think I'll go make some miracle noodles.

Susie
P.S. Congrats to all the losers and welcome to all the newbies.

Great job Susie.

Have a little extra water too. Chicken fajita meat as good as it taste usually has a lot of sodium in it.

Just went to my second weigh in. I lost 3.1 , I was happy with that, but they told me I was retaining 3 lbs. of water so my weight loss would have been more. What causes the water retention besides TOM? Not drinking enough water? I do watch sodium, but I do use Boars Head chicken breast deli meat for lunch everyday because it is convenient. I know I should ask my clinic but I think of questions after I leave!

Grettagirl,

Congratulations on your weightloss.

If the Boars Head chicken breast is not low sodium it is way to high in sodium and will cause you to retain water. You also need to make sure you are drinking all the water you are supposed to.

Mchestnut,

It has been going around. Take care of yourself and you family. It is more important than concentrating on staying on plan. Feel better. If you do go to your weigh in let us know how it goes.

Weekly Loss

Well I am very happy. I haven't been posting weight loss on here becuase I wanted to get through the first month. I really thought I would have lost only a pound this week. I haven't gone off diet at all, but felt by clothing nothing had really changed. HOWEVER, I lost 3.5 pounds this week (and 6 fat pounds) for a total of 17.5 pounds in my first month! This really tells me how much this works. Plus I can really feel my body's inclinations changing. When someone comes near with that old tempting french fry I really have no interest. When I am hungry I crave protein. This is so good to feel.

By the way, hello to all the newbies and those going to the Cape Coral office I go there too. Very nice people there. Good luck!

Teacherdli,

Was your counselor Melissa? She used to be at the Fort Myers clinic and is very familar with my weight loss. She is one of the people that scolded me (very politely) about exercising too much in the beginning phase.
