Susie,
i am actually just getting back to Orlando from Court in Hernando County this morning. Talk about a long trip. I am so sorry that I missed our lunch date. Can we reschedule for next week? My office number is 407-246-1950. Please call me and let me know if that will work for you. If not we could get coffee or a snack later this afternoon. Just call me and let me know.

Hey Sherri,
I am here in Anniston and am new to this board. I have been reading a lot of things posted here and everybody provides such a wonderful support system! I love the clinic in Anniston, they are such a wonderful support system also, they truly are there for each one of us! I have been on the program since Dec 29, 2008 and have lost 19 lbs! I think this is one of the best decisions I have made and really feel like I will reach my goal! I just wanted to reach out to you for local support and to thank everybody else for caring enough to post and encourage others!

Hey there fellow Medi peeps Hope everyone is off to a great day! So, my day has started off well, but last night I gave in I'm disappointed and upset. I know I should not beat myself up over eating outside of the program, and cheating, but when you accomplish so much and have come so far to not cheat, and then you do, you feel like a failure . PB is one of my biggest weaknesses, and last night after watching Good Eats on the Food Channel (why I tortured myself, who knows??) showing how candy bars and chocolates are made and my mouth was watering so I ran to the kitchen and ate a few tablespoons of PB...regular PB. and wow, was it good! I then craved chocolate, so I ate one of the MEDI bars. Then, I felt crappy. I paid for it to, later. But, again, today has been a good day, so far. I just have to overcome those urges. I weigh in Friday 2/13. It will be two weeks since my last weigh in. I'm excited to see what has happened since then. Well, everyone have a wonderful day

Have you tried PB2 or Walden Farms PB yet? I just got my PB2 in the mail...I'll let you know how it is when I try it. And for chocolate...have you tried the EAS AdvantEDGE carb control shakes?

B1/B6 shot and ketosis

I found this at my clinic and found it interesting that the B1/B6 shot helps to stay in ketosis.

Hi everyone. I survived my first week, it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be - but I am so glad I can now have veggies! I am really happy that I lost 7 lbs. My clinic offers a ton of recipe sheets, so I grabbed a few and will post them on the recipe thread for everyone.

Congratz on the 7lb loss!! Glad your first week went well. Alot of people have difficulty with the first week or two. Thankfully I have never suffered any side effects when I have gone very low carb.

Speaking of Low Carb, I thought I would share my very first experience with low carb diets and I didn't even know it was low carb at the time.

On January 1st, 1990 I embarked on an effort to get below 175lbs so I could re-enlist in the Marine Corps. At the time I was 189lbs and 12% bodyfat but my Commanding Officer was 6'3" and probably weighed 160lbs soaking wet so he wasn't about to let me re-enlist unless I was less than 175lbs. I had a waiver based on my bodyfat percentage that allowed me to weigh 195 lbs but he didn't care.

For 35 days I drank nothing but water and ate 1 can of tuna per day mixed with a packet of mustard. I also logged anywhere from 6 to 12 miles a day running and did weight training at the base gym pretty much every day. Even with all of that physical activity, I did not suffer from any side effects (other than being hungry all the time) and went from 189 to 173 with an estimated 8% bodyfat. Needless to say, after my re-enlistment paperwork was processed I proceeded to eat anything and everything I wanted again and my weight went back up to the 185-190lb range.

Years later when I heard about the Atkins diet and other Low Carb diets I recalled my experience with 1 can of tuna a day and realized why it worked so well.

Thank you so much! It is so good to hear from someone who goes to our local Medi clinic. 19 lbs is a chunk of weight! Congratulations. Keep up the good work.

Great to hear! I just started today and am very surprised at the amount of energy I have. I have been applying the advise from this site and have been drinking cups of warm ls/ff chicken broth. Also drinking powerade zero.
looking forward to the recipes.

As a former marine here, I know what you mean about weight waivers. I had a buddy that ran into the same problem. I also have seen marines get kicked out due to there weight problem. I served from April 89 to April 93.

HELP!!! McBoo where are you???? I don't know what is wrong with me. I start the day off strong but for some reason today I have just wanted to eat everything in site. I had a big lunch at work and then when I got home my hubby had made roast and rice. I ate that and then a bowl of Mini wheats. I just don't understand why my body feels this way. Did you go through this at any time after you had lost a large amount of weight? I don't know if it is because I am only 15 lbs away from my goal or what. Maybe I need to go back to week one and get back on the diet pills and regular fat burners.

Any ideas and suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Heather

Take a deep breath Heather! Maybe you should eat all protein tomorrow. Take the pill and drink lots of water. You are to close to give in now. Hang in there slim. (That's my brothers new nick name for me today) I love it. What will he call me when I actually get slim? Until then I am what I think I am

Weigh In Update and some more insights...........
First, the results: Lost 0.8 lbs BUT 1.6 lbs of Fat this week. I am now at 150.0 total weight. I am a little disappointed, really wanted to see 140's this week.
As I am about 10-15 lbs from goal now (that sounds so unreal) my counselor and I had a long talk.
I have been out of ketosis for over a week now, got so disguted with seeing negative/trace that I haven't even tested in 3 days.
My counselor said that at this point I really don't need to test for ketosis everyday. She explained that the scale will tell the real tale. *** She further explained that I may be in ketosis but through my breath! **** This explains my desire for breath mints this week!
We also discussed excersise. She told me these last punds are going to be the hardest; I should be increasing my excersise. 5 or 6 days instead of 4. She suggested I change up my routine again. I am hooked on the eliptical so tonight I used the random program for my usual 30 mins. WOW that was hard BUT I did it.
One last thing......I have gone back to work for a food broker. Tempations almost everywhere. Today everyone in the building got a box (6 bags) of pretzel mix! I gave my box to a coworker. To top that off my hubby asked me last night if I could HAVE popcorn!!!!

Heather,

No need to go back to week one. What I would do and this is just my opinion is I would go 2 days back to the week one plan. If you have some left over appetite suppressants I would take one a day if you haven't been taking them; fat burners definatly if you have them.

Last thing thank your husband for cooking that wonderful dinner and then remind him that he may have meant well but has set you back for this week.
Was it brown rice?

If you have been sticking to the plan faithfully it may not be that bad.
When you get to maintainance you will be able to have brown rice, cereal and things like that. Not everyday but you will be able to have them.

Water, Water, Water very very important. Also fat-free/low sodium chick broth.

Time to get back on plan you are so close to goal and don't want to sabatoge yourself or let other do it to you.

Be strong. You are so close and YOU can do this.

McBoo

Nikki,
I definatly agree with changing up the exercise. Your body becomes familar with a set routine and doesn't work as hard. Intervals on the treadmill or the eliptical are a great way to do this.

Great job on giving away the pretzel mix. If you don't have it you can't eat it.

Husband, Popcorn

Don't sabatoge yourself or let other do it to you. ( I see a theme here tonight).

You are so close to goal. YOU can do it!

Nikki,

Did you get the B1/B6 shot? It is supposed to help get you into ketosis faster and keep you in ketosis according to the medi claim I posted earlier(#306). I get them every week and stay in ketosis pretty consistently. Congratulations on being so close to your goal. You will be joining McBoo soon. You come this far, you need to finish the journey. I am excited for you.

Hi Heather,

Congratulations on being so close to goal. You are so close, don't sabotage yourself. Have you been feeling deprived lately? Try to find foods and recipes that satisfy you. I found a website today that had a lot of really great low carb, low cal recipes (Recipes for Eating Low). Also, the diet pills are a great tool, use them when you need them. We all want to see you join McBoo on maintenance.

Susie,

You are so right. It is so lonely in maintain lane. I can't wait for everyone to get there. You are all doing so well. Remember we are all in this together and it will be a lifelong journey.

Ok, I have a question! What weighs more? A pound of fat or a pound of muscle?

They weigh the same, a pound is a pound no matter what it is! Now a pound of fat takes up more space volume wise than a pound of muscle.

Darn it! You caught it! Just trying a little humor this morning! But muscle does weigh more than fat, correct?

Hey everyone, I'm so frustrated. I weighed in at Medi on Monday at 189.2 lbs. That was my first visit and I've been following everything to a "T". I weighed myself this morning and I'm 190.0 lbs... shouldn't I be losing? I'm drinking tons of water and my BMs have been normal. In these past two days I figured I would have lost at least a little bit, especially since I'm hearing of some people losing 7 lbs their first week. I'm eating all whole foods, nothing processed and all protein, no fruit, no veg or other carbs, staying under 500 cal.

kaitlynhcg,

What week are you on in the plan? Under 500 calories you are not eating enough and your body is probably in starvation mode. Have you told your clinic about what and how much you are eating? Are you doing an exercise?

When you weighed in on Monday at Medi did you also weigh in on your scale at home that you are using now? It's possible you have lost a pound or two but your scale is just calibrated differently than the Clinic scale.

I wouldn't worry to much about what your scale at home says after only 2 days anyway. It takes 3 to 4 days of very low carb to get into Ketosis and start the fat burning process for most people. I would say to relax, keep doing what you are doing eating very low carb, 500 calories a day and drinking lots and lots of water and when you go to your next Medi weigh in you will see results!

Patience is a virtue (and in my case losing 3 - 6 pounds per week it will take 45 to 70 weeks to reach my goal, it's gonna take a bunch ) . Just keep at it and it will eventually happen!

Kaitylnhcg,

After rereading some of your post I now realize you are in your first week and on day 3. Try to eat as close to the 500 calories of protein as possible. You are doing everything according to plan and you will see results at your next weigh in.

Also like Jon said the calibration of the different scales can be an issue. I know my home scale reads 1.4 pounds higher than the one at the clinic.
Weigh yourself before you go to the clinc in the same clothes you will be wearing when you go for your weigh in and compare the 2.

When I was in the acute phase I didn't weigh myself at home only at the clinic.(One rule I actually listened to) Excessive weighing can lead to frustration that you don't need.

If you can try and stay off the scale until your next weigh in. If you are following the plan you will have the results you are looking for.

I know it is hard for some people to stay off the scale. I used to be one of them. I knew I was following the plan to the letter and it was one less thing to break my spirit and determination to succeed.
