Yet another Newbie

Well not a newbie to Medi Weigtloss but new to this forum.
I have been on Medi since 7/08 I have had wonderful success. I had been maintaining since January or at least on a short hiatus or unplanned phase II. I had to dig my heals in and return to week one and to my success I had the same weight loss as I did back in July 7lb loss. I am now 2lbs away from my goal which i plan to reach this week. I love the recipes and will ad a few of my own once I am able to navigate your site a little better.

Kudos to you all for your hard work...

This weeks weigh-in results

Even though I was up 1 pound of water (TOM), I lost 2.2 pounds. I'm happy with that. I should have a really good week next week. McChestnut, please add that to your February total.

Hey everyone,

Today was my very first day and I got my blood tested and my EKG. I got the 2 shots and talked with the nutritionist.

I am very excited that I am finally starting my path to better health. However, I'm nervous for this upcoming week! Although, I have lived on 500 cals a day before (ugh), it wasn't the most pleasant experience.

Starting weight: 189.2 lbs, which is less than I thought I was (even after pigging out yesterday - my last day of junk food carbs for a LONG time).

I had my first appointment today. I was very pleased with the look of the clinic. The clinic staff were encouraging and made me feel like I could accomplish anything. They explained the program in fine detail and sent me home equiped to lose weight. I received two shots. Vitamins, urine strips, calcium, fat burner, pill holder, water bottle, all came in a pretty white printed back pack. I also got a folder with journal and shopping list and Week 1 survival guide. I'm satisfied with my decission. Starting weight.219.4

Will it be ok if I share this site with others in my area who are on Medi ? I don't know of another support site for Medi and the clinic I go to is only one of three in Alabama. We need all the help we can get.

Does anyone have a drink they use other than Smart Water or Powerade Zero? Also does the broth help with your first week? I thought I read an earlier post saying that it did help. Thanks, Sherrie

College Inn Fat-free/Low Sodium chicken broth should absolutely be a staple in the beginning. An entire 32oz carton has 20 calories and really helps. You can add any dry seasonings you like to perk it up. Always keep it on hand.

On the water subject do you like carbonated water? Any zero calorie carbonated flavored water is fine on the plan. Costco also has VitaRain which is zero calorie/zero carb vitamin water that is delicious. When it comes to vitamin waters they are not all created equal. Make sure you read the labels. Some vitamin waters actually have 120 calories per bottle. YIKES!!

Hi Sherrie,

Where do you live? I go to the clinic at Springhill Memorial. This program is wonderful. I do the smartwater. It is cheaper at Mannings/Food 4 Less than Walmart.

This board is wonderful. Everyone is so encouraging and full of information.

Hey Heather, I live in Oxford and I am so excited about this program. This site is a god send. I don't want to do it without support from people doing the same program.
I picked up a powerade zero berry drink but haven't tried it yet. I will get started in the morning.

I use the Crystal Light Hydration. Only one I can deal with for the electrolyte drinks suggested.

Welcome. It's not as hard as it seems. I thought I wouldn't survive, but all the stuff you get really helps from when I've done something like that on my own. Everyone is here to help.

Rhi,

I tried to private message you, but you were blocked from receiving it. You have to have at least 25 blogs in order for private messaging to work. Are you still up for lunch? I am off work today, so I could meet you at the clinic if you let me know the time. There are lots of restaurants close to the clinic.

No I didn't get any of that...just a few other random low carb/no carb stuff and the infamous powdered peanut butter from PB2.

I mainly drink the Crystal Light lemonade. I usually mix it at about half strength. The little packets that say to mix with 20 oz water, I mix in my 32 oz sports bottle. Other than that, I pretty much just drink plain ol water.

So i am on day 4 of my 2nd week, and i do not seem to be having any results... i know the rule is not to weigh yourself daily, but there are some habits i am not ready to give up. Can someone please lend me a helping hand to losing in the 2nd week... I have stayed in ketosis all week. Is this normal?

Make sure you are getting in plenty of water. I shoot for 120 oz or more a day. Also check the sodium content of what you are eating. Too much sodium will cause some water retention. Even though I like to weigh myself every morning as well, I wouldn't worry to much what the scale says at home. Once you weigh in at the clinic this week and see if you are losing fat you will have a better idea of whether everthing is working as it should or not.

Are you watching your sodium intake? If it is too high, you will retain water. FDA recommends no more than 2,300mg per day. I usually try to stay in the 1,800 - 2,000mg range. Also, if you are working out, if you do more than 3X per week, I have been told it can have an adverse effect on weightloss.

Day 9 and going strong!

Greetings from NC! Today is Day 9 and I feel great! I survived my first business trip while on the plan. I spend the last two days in Montreal. I did pretty good. On Sunday night attended a business dinner....no wine...no rolls (I did however find my self reaching in the bread basket as it was passed without even realizing I was doing it...I quickly pulled back my hand and said "NO" and everyone looked at me very strangely....too funny) I order grilled salmon...without sauce, etc. It was a normal size portion and that is all I ate. For lunch yesterday another business lunch at a Sushi restaurant. I wasn't prepared for a Sushi bar so I didn't know what to do. As it happens on gentlmen order for everyone so I just sort of picked..tried to avoid the rice and just eat some of the raw fish........

I haven't gone in for my first week appointment becuase I was out of town yesterday and my clinic is closed on Tuesdays. I have been rationing my appetite suppresants so I have enough through tomorrow. My appointment is at noon tomorrow. I personlly find this plan very easy to follow and of course I am still new enough that it hasn't gotten boring.

My big challenge this week will be Friday night. My husband and I are hosting a wine tasting party (which was planned long before I joined Medi). I don't want to "cheat" but I would like to sample some of the wines.....I will talk to my clinic tomorrow about it.

And welcome to all the newcomers! This is a great site and really week 1 is not all that bad!!!

Lori
