If you need to go in for another injection they are free. It really helps alot, if you can't make it in then buy the liquid B-12 that goes under the tongue. This really helps also. Good Luck, I promise you the energy level will come back. But yes this is typical the first week, by the 2nd or 3rd week it will become second nature for you. Let us know how it goes.

I survived Day 1 !!!

Good Morning All,

Thanks for all your support, I really appreciate it. I really had a pretty good day yesterday. I had a pretty bad, dull headache last night and I drank alot of water. It still persisited, but it was totally bearable. If the only thing I have to deal with to lose weight is a dull headache, I'll be fine.

As you have read, my mom and dad are on the program too and that has been super encouraging. I am engaged and the wedding is in December and I want to be a super hot bride. My fiance was blessed to be very thin (even though he eats like a horse) and he is really being supportive as well.

Although I am only on Day 2, I checked this morning and I am already in Ketosis. I am in that middle mauve color and that makes me super happy. I feel like I accomplished something.

I tired a drink last night that was so wonderful. Diet cream soda by Keg. It was super tasty.

I woke up this a.m felling wonderful and I have tons of energy. I just wanted to say thanks again. Mom and Dad thanks for helping me make such a wonderful choice. I love you both. And for everyone else thanks for all the encouragement too. I appreciate it so much. Watch out Orlando, here comes determined, soon to be skinny, Rhi.

Today

I had 2 pieces of turkey bacon (Butterball - it was really very good. I was surprised) and 1/2 cup of egg beaters for breakfast (110 calories). I just ate lunch - 4 oz of boar's head cajun eye of round roast beef (160 calories). I have 4oz of lower sodium turkey breast with me at work for a snack (120 calories) and dinner will be 2 oz of boar's head lower sodium ham (80 cal) and 1 oz of the turkey (30 cal). Total - 500 calories!

Great job Sheri!! Planning ahead definitely makes it easier to get "on the money" with your calories.

Day 3 again ;)

B- 1 Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage Paty and 6 tbsp Egg Beater Egg Whites
L- 7 oz grilled chicken breast with hot sauce (last night's leftovers)
I have a meeting after school so I probably wont get a "snack" just some extra aqua
D- I am planning either fish or shrimp--I just printed out a couple of recipes from dlife.com

Diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes - dLife.com is a great site (my clinic actually told me about it)...it is intended for people with diabetes but it will allow you to search recipes based on the nutrition you are looking for (i.e. "Very Low Carb <3g carbs"). It gives me ideas of ingredients that I hadn't thought about using, etc. I'll let you know if what I make tonight turns out scrumptious

I am going to our local health-food store (Ever'Man's for the Pensacola area people...) to see if they have the shirataki or miracle noodles or anything else that might be fun to try. I don't want to buy in bulk and that is all I can fine online.

Just heard from my insurance that even though they "thought" they could cover part of my Medi visits, that they cannot....I guess weigh loss/nutrition is listed as an exception (like sooooo many health plans). Funny how they will cover an entire facilty stay for substance abuse and addiction but food addiction and preventive health management via weightloss doesn't count? Ugh. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida if you were wondering...

I checked to see if my pharmacy benefits covered the appetite suppresants but I am pretty sure the answer is no from my research (I was thinking of getting the clinic to just "see" me and then fill the prescription on my own using insurance).

I was just trying to be creative today on my lunch break...and save some moola....I just visualize myself in a bikini if it even bothers me spending the money. Haha. I might not actually ever WEAR a bikini, but the thought of it being a possibility is intoxicating

Rhi,
Congratulations on a great start. Just make sure you are in the moderate range on your ketosis and not high. If you get into the high range you are not drinking enough water. Keep up the good work.

Yeah!!!

With the medicine, my body is finally responding to this diet! I lost 3 lbs since my last weigh in and that amounts to a total of 14 lbs in three weeks! Only 4.5 lbs were fat but that should change pretty quickly. I have a goal to lose a minimum of 3 lbs by my next weigh-in, so cross your fingers that my body keeps responding to the new medication! My ketones are now in large... woo-hoo! (we checked my ketostixs and they matched the clinics results every time, so the readings so far have been correct.)

I went over the food plan one more time with my Clinic Dr. and here is the summary:

-up to 15g carbs from fruit per day
-up to 11g carbs from veggies per day
-Generally, keep it around 20g per day of carbs total
-These carbs are considered free calories and do not count towards our daily calorie count

-Fat grams are not a concern. Our gallbladders and other organs need the fat in order to function properly.

-Keep up the Protein grams. The most important things to look out for are your protein grams, carb grams and the calorie count.

-If you have a Medi snack bar, it takes the place of one cup of veggie because it contains 11g of carbs.

Since I have a hard time eating so much protein, she is allowing me to eat 550-600 cals of protein a day. Next week we will monitor how it goes. My next appointment is on Friday 1/16/09 at 8:15am with my Dr. and then we will take it from there.

This week, I averaged: 99g of protein; 565 in cals; 7g of carbs; 8g of fat (my veggies are included in this)

So, the carbs and fat need to come up a bit.

First week, I averaged: 70g of protein; 533 in cals; 9g of carbs; 21g of fat
Second week, it was : 82g of protein; 630 in cals; 13g of carbs; 22g of fat

__
By the way, it was great to meet you CDarling at the clinic this morning!

Just wanted to say to all the new folks who have started Medi and are having success at learning to eat healthy and lose weight.

Medi definetly works and the folks on this site offer great advice and encouragement!

My last office visit / weigh in was on December 19th. I took about a 10 day break from low carb and working out for the holidays. I go to the clinic tomorrow morning and hopefully I have still managed to lose a pound or two since the 19th.

Rahrahrhi,

Are you going to the clinic on Sand Lake? It sounds like you have a great attitude. I have been going since mid November and have already lost 27 pounds. You picked a great program that actually works. What impressed me and got me to start is that while most weight loss programs advertise results not typical, medi advertises that results are typical.

You will have a headache and feel weak for the first week. Get all the free shots you can. In the beginning I went in for the free shot M-W-F and they were fine giving it to me. I also get the $10 shot. The energy boost is so important in the beginning. The first week is definitely the hardest.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Susie

to all the other newbies. This is one resolution you will succeed in.

For the relish do you have a Sweetbay, Hannaford or Kash N Karry supermarket near you? They have a store brand that is sugar free.

The garlic chilli paste you can usually get at any Asian market. Most large supermarkets have the Dynasty Brand Garlic Chilli Paste in the asian section.

Hi McBoo,

I went to 3 grocery stores and 2 healthfood stores looking for the ingredients for the pad thai and could not find them anywhere. I don't know where there are any asian markets near me. At Chamberleins I found a sweet & spicy peanut sauce made by Steels with 34 calories, 2f fat and 1.5g carbs per serving. Since it is already sweet and spicy, I was hoping that I could just add coconut extract. What do you think? I am still waiting for my miracle noodles to arrive.

I also picked up a Walden Farms calorie free Alfredo sauce. I'm hoping it will be decent. I had a hard time finding any Walden Farms products everywhere I went. I know I've seen them in the grocery store in the past.

Susie

Susie,

That sauce should be OK with the counts that you quoted. I don't know how big the serving size is but be careful to not go over. Sweetbay/Kash N Karry and some Publix have the Dynasty Brand Garlic Chilli Paste. The Davinci Gourmet Sugar-Free Coconut Syrup I order on-line from Davinci's. The Walden Farms peanut spread some Publix have in the organic section. If not you can order it on line from Walden Farms or Sweetbay Supermarkets on-line website has it also.

F.Y.I. The Walden farms Alfredo sauce isn't that bad but don't taste it until it has been heated with whatever you are making with it because cold/room temperature is nasty. Heated much better.

For those in the Fort Myers Area

They had a flyer today at the Fort Myers clinc about a new store in the area called The Skinny Pantry in Fleamasters. It appears the person you runs the store is a medi client and is stocking medi compliant items. I will check it out this weekend and let you know what I find.

My maintainance weigh-in went great today and I am now in the wellness phase (Phase 3). I am going to go for another weigh-in in 2 weeks (they offered me to come back monthy but I just wanted and interim appointment for the first time.

Congratulations to you and your Husband! That is really great for the first week especially with that amount of fat in lbs lost. My next appt is on 1/16 because from now on Dr Lopez is splitting her days between the two Clinics and will only be at our Clinic Mon-Wed-Fri.

Hi Anne,

My Husband and I both use a product called Closys - toothpaste and mouth wash. It is gentle on your mouth and actually kills the bacteria living in your mouth thereby eliminating bad breath for up to 8 hours. You can find it at CVS or Walgreens. For more information, you can go to their website at closys.com. A couple of years ago, there was an interview with the Dentist that invented it on TV and I was impressed by what she had to say. It used to only be available through a Dentists' Office but now you can find it pretty easily.

I made Almond Topped Baked Cod for dinner...a recipe I found on dlife.com. It turned out pretty good and according to the Ketostix, I am in ketosis. I walked for 30 minutes on the treadmill today, too.

If you shop at Publix they are usually very good about getting in product special requests. I hvae ordered the Walden PB and BBQ sauce. I plan on taking the labels in to my Publix store manager and making my request.

Weigh in news!
I lost 5.2 lbs this week, total for 35 days is 21.2 lbs!!!
My toal fat mass has gone from 75.2 to 60.2.
My counselor was very happy with me, especially since I am nursing this sore foot and taking a low dose steriod. Going to get the b6/mic combo shot again on monday just to be sure the steriods don't mess me up with sugar cravings.
Counselor did tell me that, as far as she knows, they are the only clinic that has the combo shot b6/mic; this is one shot and it does not sting or burn. They have it made for them and not from "corporate".

Mchestnut - hope u are hanging in there ....... pretty rough game for your gators

I went to Publix today and they didn't have any Walden Farms products. I will ask them to order some. I take it your recommendations are for the Walden PB and the BBQ sauce. I grilled chicken on the bbq tonight and the bbz sauce would have been nice, but I sprayed Asian silk salad spritzers on the chicken after I grilled it and it was quite good.

Thanks,
Susie

I cheated

I cheated last night with some chicken wings and 2 pieces of thin crust cheese/ham pizza size large. I didn't care at all...I checked ketosis and still okay. I worked out a bit longer yesterday morning knowing that I would be getting ready for the BIG GAME. I am looking forward to the celebration at The Swamp on Sunday.

Go Gators!!!

Mchestnut.

Glad to hear you are still in ketosis. You know what you have to do to get back on plan. Are you planning on celebrating off plan on Sunday? If so make sure you make up for it at the gym. Good luck.

Nikki,

That is great news on your weight loss. Especially while taking the steroids.
You are doing fantastic.

Good news - I'm in ketosis :-) I'm going to Publix today to look for Walden Farms sauces.
