While I love this Medi Thread, I am not, by any means a medi perfect person. Mine is probably more akin to a modified Atkins. Granted, it has taken me six months to keep 30 lbs off, but I actually feel good. I refuse to starve myself in the name of weight loss. I plan on reaching goal this year, which is fine. The extra 75 lbs did not get added on in twelve months, so it certainly won't come that quick. As long as the scale moves in the right direction, I am at peace with my weightloss efforts. I am 30lbs lighter, and that is very important to me.
I hear ya. You probably have a greater chance of keeping it off because you're doing it slowly, too.

Hi All

First of all Mchesnut you look fabulous!! Keep up the good work.
Today was the first day back to work since the holiday's I work in a High School, I was up and down the stairs and walking all over the building. That was my exercise for today. Two more days and I go for my first weigh in. I can't wait. It was hard today I was a bit hungry and I had a bad headache. I called the doctor at the clinic because I was concerned and he said they would stop soon. And advised me to drink even more water than I have been drinking, so I am. A bit dizzy today too. Just vending and I love this board I really feel good when I talk to everyone. Thanks to all, Rhonda

Rhonda,

Hang in there you are almost through the first week. It does get easier. Good luck on your weigh-in.

Hello all.......
Well after starting to go back to the gym my foot/heel pain came back with a vengenance. Went to the podiatrist yesterday; plantar faciiaitis and a heel spur. I just could not drop $195 for custom orthodics yesterday so, I have a temporary insert for that foot and a 6 day course of low dose steriod/antiinflamatory (methylprenisone 4mg 21 tablets). Going to call the clinic today and tell them, weigh in is Thursday. Guess I am worried about the steriod, gaining weight......
Skipped the gym yesterday but will go back tonight.

Nikki21,

Sorry to hear about your foot problems. Don't worry about your weight loss right now comcentrate on getting your foot injury taken care of and follow what the doctor says about your exercise program.

Good Luck.

TY..I don't know about everyone else but it is much easier for me when I am at work. The weekends have gotten easier. But if you are back to work now I bet you will start to feel much better. Good Luck and let us know how your first weigh in goes. I bet you will say..WOW it was worth it when you see the loss.

I had plantar fasciitis for five months about three years ago. Probably the most tiresome/painful issue I have had. NSAIDs will help a bit, but just give it time. Invest in a good supportive sneaker (I loved Asics), as well as an insert. PT can help- they have inventive ways of taping your heel that can aid in comfort, as well as performing ultrasound with steroid gels. I actually went as far as a steroid injection- but I don't recommend it. Ice your heel several times per day-- I rolled my heel on a frozen water bottle. Also, do some stretching before getting out of bed (I used a scarf, and put it under my toes, pulling the top of my foot forward towards me while lying in bed, which stretches the achilles/plantar fascia muscle band. You can also do heel dips/raises-- just stand on a step, holding onto the railing and drop your heels downward, then up on tippy toes, keeping on the step with your toes only. This all takes time. Try to be patient, it will leave as quick as it came on.

Good Morning Everybody!

OMG! I got on the scale this morning and for the first time since Day 5, on Day 18, my scale has dropped 2 lbs! I guess the medicine is working! It will be interesting to see how the rest of the week plays out. PCOS affects 15% of women so I am probably not the first on these boards to have this problem or the last. This will definitely be a journey since it boils down to insulin resistance. I also have hypothyroidism, fibromyalgia, tendonitis in my heels and arms, etc... so there are other issues to contend with. I just try not to let that get in my way. What triggered the new diagnosis, along with other things, is that instead of my body burning fat, it was storing it. I noticed this when I entered the three printouts from the Tanita. The Technicians told me on Day 5 that I had lost 1.5lbs fat of the 10 that I had lost and handed me the printout. But... when I entered all of them and compared them, I had actually gained 1.5lbs of fat that first weigh-in, not lost it! The second weigh-in results showed 1lb higher in fat than the starting figure. My Dr said that this has never happened in her clinics before (she owns two of them). That coupled with absolutely no weight loss since Day 5 was a sign that something was wrong. I love my clinic Dr because she is not afraid to help and get my health back on track and she did not even charge me for the visit, which is astounding!

Let's see what happens!

Thanks for the words of encouragment.
I called the clinic on my way into work this morning; they said I can expect a slight feeling of euphoria, possible jitters in combintation with the appetite supressent and a strong craving for sweets ! Since I have been getting the extra b6 shot for the last week the cravings should be ok to deal with - hopefully!
Thanks for the tips krissy ( i was hoping u would chime in since u are a nurse).

Oh, Week 1, how I did not miss you...

Half way through day one of week one, for the second time. Doing okay. I am almost anticipating how I will feel so I am starting with the broth and powerade zero right away. I planned on going to the gym today but had to have my eye dilated and don't think that is a good idea I'll go to the grocery store and stock up on deli meat instead!

Anne, just friendly advice, I would wait on going to the GYM until your body has had time to adjust. If you go be careful.

Thanks Krissy! I don't know about anyone else, but for me, the diet is normally the easy part and getting to the gym and exercising is the struggle.

Like you, I'm not following the plan to the letter, but am doing my own thing and exercising a lot and it seems to be working and it's something I can stick to. It just took me until now to realize that watching carbs was the critical piece and that is what works!

Hey there! Yeah, I too had a huge sweet tooth, especially for chocolate, and I still do, but since being on the MEDI program I haven't given in once. I'm so proud of myself, since that is the hardest thing I've had to struggle with. Some days are better than others with those urges, but I just get right mentally and go on...Hope all goes well for ya, and it does get better and easier!!

Thank you...I do remember having a hard time not feeling dizzy at the gym even into week 2 before. I just plan on starting out VERY slowly...like 20 minutes walking at a regular pace. I coach high school softball and the season starts next week. I'll have almost 2 hours between my workday and practices starting which gives me no excuse but to walk a little...especially since my house is in the opposite direction so I can't come home to take a nap!

Just had some yummy chicken with hot sauce....had a terrible migraine all afternoon but I think that is partially from having my eyes dilated this morning and having a corneal ulcer on my eyeball!! yikes!!! Feeling better with some rest, powerade zero and protein.

Walden Farm products are so great, I baked chicken tonight with some chopped garlic and their BBQ sauce and it came out fantastic. My Husband could not tell the difference. I also made coleslaw tonight with the Walden Farms Cole Slaw dressing and it is actually very good. It is slightly different in flavor the first bite but once you start eating it, you cannot tell the difference. I think I will add some poppy seeds or something next time to jazz it up. It is hard to believe this stuff is zero calories for real!

Mamamia,

If you like the Walden Farms Cole Slaw dressing you may want to add some sugar free sweet relish to it. The one I use has zero carbs and zero calories and is sweetened with splenda.

Weigh-In Wednesday

I lost 2.6 more pounds with a total of 18. I lost 4.6 pounds of fat, I think because I went on the treadmill on Monday for 1/2 hour. I want to see the pounds go down though. I don't know if I should exercise anymore, I am thinking maybe I should wait until I get closer to goal. They told me to exercise for 1/2 hour 3 days a week.

Great job Dina. That is fantastic. you are doing so well. As far as the exercise goes 3-4 times a week for a 1/2 hour max is about right. When i was in the acute phase I was reminded on more than one occassion to cut back on my exercise when I got carried away.( Actually it was 3 or 4 times because sometimes I don't listen) Everytime I did what they said it worked out perfectly even though it just doesn't seem right to exercise less but with the reduced fuel your body is getting you really shouldn't do any more.

Keep up the good work.

Deemac.

Congrats that is Great!...I exercise 30 min on an eliptical and go for 4 to 5 days. I don't do much more then that, sometimes I go for 35 min but not very often. I think you are doing great with where you are now. I know that too much is not good being the restricted calories we are taking in. I go in today for my weigh in, I hope to see a big fat loss this week.

That is great Dina!
I had worked myself up to about 40 mins on the treadmill @ 3.5 incline and 3.5 mph. After talking to the clinic (mcboo & mchgestnut) I have started doing half/half eliptical/treadmill for 30-35 mis total; started really slowly on the eliptical and have been building up time on that, slowly weaning out the treadmill. I seem to get a better cardio workout on the eliptical; just on level one and try to keep the hm in range for cardio.
I did change it up a little last night at the gym, 16 mins on the eliptical and then did some arm weight machines for @ 20 mins (just 2 sets on each machine 10-12 reps). The clinic doc said it was a good idea to start toning.
I "cheated" this morning - not in a food way though . I got on the bathroom scale, the suspense was killing me. By my scale I am down almost 6 lbs from last office weigh in. Official weigh in tommorrow night!

Thanks again for the advice on the foot problem; I iced and stretched last night and stretched this morning. Thinking about getting a pair of the FalkFit insoles, my mother bought some and likes them. They are less than $30 , which is alot better than $195 for the custom set from the doc

Custom ortho's are great, but there are some pretty good ones out there. The simple gel-heel cups are good too. Making sure you have excellent heel support is key here, which decreases the pounding on your fascia. Try not to limp, as your gait will get thrown off, and you may end up with some hip problems on the opposing side. Plantar Fasciitis was one of those little medical mishaps I never paid any mind to....until I got it!!!
