Also... I usually work out 4 times a week, MWFS, for 45 to 60 minutes. My spin instructor really wants me to start doing some body sculpting via her 45 minute powercuts class on Saturdays. Per my doctors advise not to overtrain while on low carbs, I was going to swap my Saturday spin for the powercuts class (instead of doing both as I did last week), but tomorrow I can't go to my usual spin class as I am taking my son to the airport to go back to college. Since I am missing my Friday spin, I am really tempted to do the powercuts class followed by a spin class. I was thinking I would take it really easy during the spin. I don't know if it is guilt or addiction to workout, but I have a real hard time skipping without making it up. What do you think?

Thanks again for being so supportive and knowledgeable. I look forward to seeing what you (and others) have to say every day. Since you have been there and done it, I really put stock in your advice.

Susie
Susie,

You are right on the pudding calculation. I am wrong I made a mistake when multiplying the servings. I would like to blame it on being drunk but I haven't had anything to drink. Just human error

As far as the exercise I am the wrong person to ask when it comes to that as I am like you in that respect. If I miss a day I try to make it up or if I can't make it up in one day I make up the time over the next several days by adding a little time to each day. Since I am maintaining I think it is OK. I will find out when I go into the clinic on Feb 3rd and see what they say.

Remember I am a person who has been politely reminded by the clinic I go to on more than one occasion to watch my amount of exercise while I was on the acute phase.

Went to the clinic today for my weigh in and shot. I lost 7.4 lbs since my last visit 2 weeks ago. My original goal weight was 195 but I have revised it down to 190. I just know these last 8 lbs are going to be very hard to lose but I am confident it can be done by staying on plan.

Hi All-
I made it through the first week with only one minor slipup on the second day. Now I am starting the second week today. I am actually a bit nervous about adding back the veggies and/or fruit as I know the added carbs will slow the weight loss down. Did anybody start to get carb cravings once they added these things back? I am pretty much a carbaholic. This diet has been great as I havent had any cravings since starting. I feel great and am really happy to have been told about MediWeight Loss.

Thanks for your help.

todays results

Hmmmmm, kinda having trouble with water weight. need some help please. They recommend me cutting back on the caffine. I usually have a cup of coffee in the morning. Coke Zero for lunch and dinner. I have been counting my oz and am drinking the required amount. But I don't know if I should even be drinking more. any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

This week...I lost 2 lbs and lost 4.5 lbs of Fat. So far overall I am at 36 lbs and 43 lbs of fat is gone. I know that the Fat Mass really is the most important thing, but this water weight is really messing with my head.

Thanks

How much of this are you drinking? The figures on that chart are for 8 oz. This might be a good start in finding the culprit.

What does the clinic say about the water weight? That's one thing I have never gotten a clear answer on from my doctor or anyone else at the clinic. My TBW right now is 109.4 lbs. 2 weeks ago it was 112.8 lbs. I've asked what the ideal TBW weight should be and have never gotten a real answer.

I have lost 42.4 lbs total since starting. 34 lbs of fat and 6 lbs of TBW. I guess the other 2.4 lbs lost was muscle though I don't really think I have lost any muscle mass.

I am starting to think that the fat % and TBW readings on the scale at my clinic are not always very accurate as I have seen some strange variations from week to week and a couple other people at the clinic that I have talked to have noticed the same things.

I drink on avg about 2 coke zero a day. I am really going to just cut back to one a day and see how that works for next weeks weigh in. I guess its from the amount of exercise that I am doing, but they are telling me that I am way ahead because of the amount of fat loss vs actual weight loss. I did increase my lean muscle mass by 1lb also this week. I have to get in the right frame of mind about the scale. It is just so hard because in the end I am trying to reach that 180lb mark. Mcboo...how did you get through this?

Jon...Yeah they really don't give me a number of where I should be at. My total body weight is 110 lbs. I did read somewhere that men tend to hold 50 to 60% of there weight is water. So this number would have me about right since im currently at 213.

Thank you for your feedback.

WTG ALL! Well, had my first visit! My starting weight is 454, fat 219, water 172. Yepper, have a little ways to go! They said my food log was wonderful and it looks like I already had a good handle on what I need to do. Because I am already in Keotosis, I can keep having a limited amount of veggies. The last week, I had been averaging 600-700 calories and they said I needed more and upped it too 1000-1200 calories. She said the Mama Lupe's low carb tortilla is wonderful but I could only have it 2-3 times a week. She said that is the only tortilla she would recommend.

I, also asked about the ideal water weight. My nurse said, that number would be a formula that would include your body mass, weight, and fat content and as any of those numbers change, the ideal water weight number would change.

mchestnut,

How is the sodium intake. Are you eating anything that possibly has hidden sodium in it?

Looking back at my old slips my starting TBW was 97.41 lbs and on my last weigh-in 1/8/09 it was 87.21 lbs. I was very cautious about my sodium intake. I read every label especially marinades and sauces. There can be a lot more sodium in things than you think. I only use salt substitute.

It could also be that you are not getting enough water and your body is holding on to it. Do you drink any plain water or flavored water?

Jerry,

I had a feeling they were going to up your calories because you are such a big guy to start out with that you really need more calories. You are so lucky that they are letting you have the tortillas in the acute phase. Just keep an eye on how many you have and if your weight loss starts to slow down considerably I would look there first. We are all looking forward to watching your progress.

Robyn,

Congratulations on getting through your first week. Make sure you pick low carb veggies and fruits. Your body will also like the added fiber they give you.
Enjoy and let us know how it goes.

I plan on only having 1 per week as a reward to myself. If I lose on Friday, Saturday I will either have an egg burrito, chicken wrap or turkey pepperoni (pizza). Saturday is a regular workout day so I will work it off anyway...

Franks Wing Sauce

Mchestnut,'

I was just looking at the Franks Wing Sauce label and it has 380mg of sodium per 1 tablespoon. How much are you using on your food? That coupled with not enough water might be one answer.

Way to go Jerry!

Jerry - Congratulations - you are on the way to being wealthier and healthier !!!!!

You are inspiring us all to do better! We have to remember that it took time for us to pack on these pounds and it will take time to get them off - one day at a time.

Have a wonderful weekend to McBoo and all his peeps!

That I bet is it...I put the hot sauce on almost everything. I didn't even think about that WOW 380 mg of sodium. I do use a salt substitute but thank you for the feedback. I will focus on this and be careful of the hidden sodium.

Thanks again

Still here :)

Hello all...man I feel out of the loop

Jon---way to go!! I bet you'll be needing an updated profile side-by-side picture soon!

Jerry---congrats on not having to go through what felt like the worst few days ever---you have taken such a strong hold on this program and you are only officially on "day 1"

McChestnut---that darn hot sauce. I love it too but the sodium is crazy in it. I've been trying to only use it every other day for a couple of reasons: I don't want to get sick of it, and it really is high in sodium and considering the fact that I SMOTHER my chicken in it...
Soda is one of my vices. I don't drink coffee so I usually have a soda early in the morning and then in the evening with dinner...I have been craving it less so I am not buying cans anymore...just refilling a bottle and drinking half in the morning then some at lunch, etc. I drink Diet Pepsi.

I am still hanging in there, medi-style I have been much busier coaching softball now. I have been working out for 30 minutes (treadmill/bike or elliptical) then stretching and doing about 100 crunches. At practice I am mostly just walking around but tonight I had the urge to run laps with the girls! Ha. I will be curious to see how my regular exercise affects my next weigh-in. Exercising certainly forces me to drink more water!

The peas are out of my system and I am in moderate ketosis once again. Stupid peas.

Question: Have any of you tried Boathouse brand salad dressings? They are made with yogurt and I saw them at the store in the produce section...they seem to be low in carbs and calories. Just wondering about flavor and if they would work on our program?

EAS Shakes: I have no tried both the Chocolate Fudge and French Vanilla and I like both of them! I found Strawberry today and will give that a shot next week. I think McBoo mentioned not having the shakes more than once a day BUT I was wondering if that is really bad, especially for the vanilla and strawberry which only have 2 carbs. I am tempted to grab one for breakfast and then I have one after working out on my way to practice.

Sorry for the LONG post...I hope I didn't bore you

Chili's

My husband "warned" me that we'll be going to Chili's tomorrow night for dinner with some friends. I have looked online and they have a "Guiltless Grill" but it isn't necessarily low-carb friendly. I think I'm pretty good and figuring out what to order but I thought maybe someone has been there and could give me a heads up about some of the menu items? My staple when we used to go there was the Southwest Cobb Salad. <<Not gonna happen, I know...>>

Chilli's Southwest Cobb Salad No Dressing
970 cals
60 g fat
56g carbs

A better choice would be to order something not on the menu
A grilled chicken breast
Steamed Veggies if any are high carb pick them out
Get a small portion of Salsa for the chicken breast.

Hold the salt and any extra oil on the chicken.

Have fun. Don't be afraid to ask for something not on the menu. If they have the ingredients they will do it for you.

McBoo

P.S. On the EAS shakes if you are willing to give more than one a day a try go for it. Just keep a very close eye on it. Everyones bodies are different and it may work for you. If you journal your food make sure you include it.

Help

I don't know what happened today but first off I was on plan. Had 1/2 cup cottage cheese with 1/4 cup of blueberries. Lunch I had 3oz of shrimp and 1/2 cup spinach I had my water and tea all day. I came home and wanted to eat everything I have not had any cravings so this was strange. For dinner I had turkey thighs 2 of them and yes I ate the skin and I am still hungry and want to eat something. I was thinking of eatting an apple with peanut butter but I don't know what should I do. Why am I feeling this way, has anyone felt like this. HELP

Rhonda,

Do you have any pickles in the house. If so have a couple of them they generally have 5-10 cals per pickle (check the label of your brand) the chewing and crunch might help. Fat-free low sodium chicken broth is always good too.

Hang in there. Let us know how it goes.

My staple when we used to go there was the Southwest Cobb Salad. <<Not gonna happen, I know...>>
I ate there not to long ago and I had the guiltless grilled chicken on whole wheat bun with buffalo sauce. I felt guilty eating the bun but took some carb blockers just before the meal. (some people say the carb blockers don't work but they do seem to me to help some) It came with a side of steamed brocolli and I had an unsweetened ice tea with it. Not the most medi friendly meal but a hell of a lot healther and more low carb than stuff I would have eaten there 6 months ago before I started on Medi.

I haven't posted all day, so I have a lot to say.

Rhonda,

How about trying some miracle noodles? Find out about them at Shirataki MiracleNoodle Shop!. I know that doesn't help now, but it will in the future. We all have those moments where we are just plain hungry. The miracle noodles are all fiber, no calories, no carbs and will fill you up. Tonight I had them with butter spray and 2 T grated parmesian for a total of 40 calories.

Also, for everyone, I googled miracle noodles on youtube and there were several videos of people preparing low carb recipes with them. Some of the recipes looked quite good.

Today I was really in the mood for a philly cheesesteak, so here is what I did. I sauteed peppers and onions, then added some tyson precooked chicken strips. Once that was hot I put it on a plate and added a slice of provalone veggie slices (which taste like cheese, but are made with soy and are only 35 calories and 1 or 2 carbs). I microwaved that for 30 seconds to melt the cheese, then added a few banana peppers. I would have added pickled jalapenos if I had them. It was really tasty, and reminded me of a chicken philly cheesesteak. It really hit the spot.

On another note, I went to my bunco tonight and several people hadn't seen me in a while. They were all calling me skinny and it felt so good. While I'm not skinny yet, I'm starting to feel like I'm not so fat anymore. It is a great feeling.

Kudos Jon and McChestnut for your weight losses this week. McChestnut, in addition to cutting back the sodium make sure you drink lots and lots of plain water. I've found (and being a woman I have had issues with water retention) the more you drink the less you retain. Hang in there Rhonda, it gets easier and easier every week. You can do this and when you see the weight really start to come off it will be all worth while.

Susie

Hi all! I am new to MediWeightLoss and new to this message board. You guys really seem to support each other and there are so many great success stories. I really hope to follow in your footsteps. I went today for initial appt and will start tomorrow. I am sure I will need support along the way - everyone I have mentioned the plan to thinks I am crazy, but I absolutely believe it will work.

Well, I wanted to say hi and hopefully I can report good news in the next week or so.

LVGirl,
You have made a great choice by starting medi. The plan really does work. This forum is a great source of support. We are all here to help. The first week is the hardest but it does get easier after that. We are here to share our experiences with the plan and help you achieve the success you are looking for. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Yeah its funny how there are so many little things that we don't think of that can affect our weight. I do love hot sauce but I bet that this is what is doing it.

Thank you

Thank you McBoo, Anne, Jon and SD2...I appreciate the additional support and advice. Although I have been very strict and sticking to the plan, I wasn't really thinking about the sodium intake. The feedback has been a huge help. I have a goal to be at 210 by the end of this month, and my maintenance goal is by April. I know the support I have with my family and Friends (here) I can make this happen.

Thank you again
