Maintainers Non-Specific/General Discussion thread....

Thought I'd start a general thread, as there seem to be more posts in the Maintainers Forum again.

Hope you're all doing very well today.

Hi, Auntie Em, thanks for starting this. I'm thinking I'm close enough now to join the
maintainers, although truly I want to lose 5 lbs. more. I don't mind if it goes slowly
as my main goal is to keep it off--- so I don't want to adopt a way of eating that I can't or won't keep up. Nowadays my way of eating is pretty much paleo.

I am sure you will lose those last 5!

I have lost about a pound and a half since hitting my goal while doing maintenance for 3 months. If I wanted to actively lose, it may be disappointing, but I am happy to achieve this on Maintenance. Gives me wiggle room and more peace of mind.

Luckily for me, no temptations today. I think it is easier now than six months before as I have slowly removed all high carb foods from the house. Actually, I have two homemade dessert leftovers in the freezer and they have not tempted me. I am working hard to make delicious low carb foods so that I am not tempted and that helps.

One craving I recently addressed was for chips! I love corn chips and guacamole. I purchased the Joseph Low Carb Lavash bread from Netrition and cut into squares and baked them at 350 for 8 minutes. Oh my goodness, the texture was spot on with a corn chip and still sturdy. I will be just fine and dandy at Super Bowl taking my Lavash chips along.

Do any of you have plans on how to Maintain on Super Bowl Sunday or is it not a big temptation?

Superbowl isnt a big deal in our family...so Im safe...

Im kinda fixated on the vanity sz 4 ( lots of stretch) capris I bought today...that will keep me focused for a week or so....capris weather for Las Vegas is 4-6 weeks away..we are firmly in the 60's now...the capris are black jeans and the top a cute dark navy black striped mix

The outfit sounds cute Deborah. Your weather really nice. I expect some brutal cold yet if past winters are any indication...

No temptation for me in the near future except we are going to a fancy restaurant soon..this Sat....I stick to meat and veggies, salad...fish...and a glass of wine. The bread might tempt if my dh eats it, but I can usually forego it. Too much wine and my judgement about bread and starch and dessert get cloudy, lol. Then I can pay the price for a week. For me it's about blood sugar too.

I have proved to myself many times one glass is it

Nothing like a cute outfit to keep one focused!

I have not been to a Super Bowl party in years but am going to one this year. Like Girondet, alcohol can cloud my judgment and also give me the munchies.

Hi, Ladies. How nice to have you all post. Girondet, I think five pounds is in the goal area. It's great to have you post here.

I'm cutting down on cheese these days, preparing for pollen season. Am hoping that the Vitamin D this winter will make the pollen season less problematic.

It's quite sunny today, so will make sure I get a walk in. I do Callanetics, stretches and senior yoga daily, quite faithfully, but tend to only go for walks in very pleasant weather.

Hope you all are having a lovely day.

We are having beautiful walk weather in Missouri today. I had not walked in awhile and squeezed one in before work this morning with one of my dogs. It was most enjoyable and I always feel it is a great boost to my metabolism to start a day with a walk in brisk weather. Am happy with my maintenance weight as the weekend approaches!

We are firmly in the 60's here so walking would be great...OKOK..I need to set that as a priority!

Yes, a walk outdoors with my dog and my dh was lovely yesterday. It does nice things for the mood as well as physical health I think. Auntie Em, I'm excited about a book on Callanetics I have ordered. It should be here any day now. Yoga stretches are great too.
I'm trying to refine and tweak my lifestyle with permanence in mind. Yet, also enough variety.....

Never was I a person who liked to be structured but having some sort of loose system in place is crucial for me now!

Girondet, I like having a loose system. I'm hoping the coldest weather is over until next year, so walks are on the regular plan now.

Hope you all have a really good day.

That is upsetting, Deborah. Although, remember you didn't gain anything...it's just the scale...whew! My scale messes with my head a lot...good and bad...

I only got my coffee so it was a success, but I do not like even being tempted.

I don't even know what I want, today I just feel tempted in general. I hope this feeling passes soon.....before dinner.....we are going out. Looking at the menu online and making a plan might be a good idea.

Yeah for planned food intake! I do find it helps me. Those days when thoughts of eating things off plan, or just too much of something in the plan can be hard. I like having a well defined plan.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday morning.

I have a couple of mirrors in my house that are the more honest ones

On the other hand, it's so easy to go overboard in perfection seeking...

This week I'm going to make sure I have lots of things around that I like to eat, and some new things if I must snack. I've about had my fill of nuts and chocolate and I think more protein might be in order. And bone broth and other soups. My husband ordered a wonderful celeriac soup Sat. night. Maybe I could make that. It was cream less yet thick enough....I guess celeriac is a root veggie so at least a little starchy. I know I've seen it from time to time but never bought it. It is celery flavored, and still light in consistency.

Sorry for rambling. Trying to beat the food doldrums.

Hi, Deborah.

Girondet, I've used celery root before and quite enjoyed it. It's nice raw, too.

I've cut down on cheese, and already feel a bit better. Must be pollen in the air. I have to eat a low-histamine diet during pollen season.

Hope you all are having a nice morning.

Many folks use celery root as a subsitute for potatoes! There are some threads on the Low Carb Cooking forum.

Deborah, I've used raw celery root and raw turnip slices in the summer. I like the clean crunch.

I can't wait to find some. I might even try "potato chips" if I can slice that way with my food processor. Yesterday I looked in at Kroger, no dice. Also the only pastured butter was their own brand...private selection it's called. My store may not have all that others do. I may try another...I'm pretty sure publix does not carry celeriac either. I would have seen it. I have tried all of the fruits and veggies they carry...including yucca, jicama, boniato, name....
Interesting, but I'm not that excited by them.

Celeriac looks challenging to peel and slice....like some of the squashes and even sweet potato....heh, that alone discourages me from eating too much and too often...

I have made wonderful cucumber chilled soup in summer, but that was with cream or half and half...it would be a challenge to make it dairy less. I may try though, I love cukes.

What about rutabaga? Anyone done anything interesting with it.?

Checking the recipe section is a great idea!

Girondet, the Farmer's Markets sell celery root, and I've seen it at Publix, but it costs more there. It's not hard to peel, just takes a sharp knife.

I find rutabaga too starchy. I didn't care for it raw or cooked.

Jicama is nice, and it is very sweet. I don't eat it anymore.
