How to go on a date and not appear picky

while doing low carb or even on induction ? I have been going on dates while doing low carb and then I have to explain all meats & seafoods and vegetables only ...so then you end up at a nice restaurant and they have meat but it has bread crumbs or tomato sauce or something that screws it all up for ya . Anyone having a problem like that but trying not to appear picky especially on a first date lol .Just wondering .I had one guy ask me oh do you like Indian food and I say yes but it is not low carb so that killed that restaurant lol almost everything he suggested I couldn't eat and he would say but it's meat and then I would say yeah but it has a sauce .So how to go on dates and yet be able to do lowcarb or induction and not appear like you are a picky person.Suggestions please .

Meat based places are safe! Um, fish places can be safe. Um, Atkins had a guide in his books as to what to get in which cuisine.

There's almost always Atkins friendly food!

At Indian restaurants you could get Saag paneer, tandoori chicken,

I've had some of the best salads at Thai restaurants.

Middle eastern foods focus on meat and veggies (you can just not eat the grains).

I would look at a menu of a restaurant beforehand and then find out what you could eat. You could call ahead to find out how the food is prepared.

If he just suggests a type of food (indian, mexican) I would find out several things I can eat (without substituting things) and then just order it when I get there.

You could also pick the restaurant.

And, don't stress! Have a good time! If something has a little extra carbs, don't sweat it! Do the best you can!

Hi, my 2cents,
Eat protein before you go out.Do not go out hungry.
Eat small portions, guys expect that from a woman.
Eat protein or fat when you get back if you are hungry.
Compensate with very low carb the next day, or intermitent
fasting if that is your thing, on the same day or next one.
Repeat every week and have fun.
Cheers,

:-)

just tell the waiter how you need your food made!
sauce on the side, no breading, etc etc

Thats one thing I love about NY...we dont think twice or even bat an eyelash when someone orders food and has changes to the menu item
Its fine!

Well, I don't really care about being picky, if you like the guy and are going to date him again he may as well get used to it.

I am allergic to wheat anyway, have not had any for years and years now so it is kind of second nature to me. You could say you are allergic.

Thanks everyone

I just looked up the Tandoori chicken and Saag Paneer it doesn't involve any sugar or starches ....so now that sounds good to eat :-) ....I will snoop around and read some more ingredients from Indian recipes and see what else there is to order and then let you all know ...

Agreed! Also ordering/asking for what you want is NOT being picky. A person can be perceived as picky if they are wishy-washy when ordering. Just be confident and direct when ordering your food.

When your date sees you enjoying your custom ordered meal, you won't seem picky at all.

most places have chicken ceasar salad, or some variation of that...you can always order that if everything else seems to saucy. (although I usually take an individual serving-size salad dressing to be sure it meets my guidelines! Can't eat soy oil, and don't want added sugar many dressing have.)

You can also take a couple of frozen string-cheese (individual size) in your purse in case of hunger "emergencies" (Just remember to take them out later if you don't eat them that night! Or you'll have the Stinky Cheese Purse!)

This is good advice!

Unless I end up in a very bad restaurant, I don't even order from the menu. I talk to the waiter - make a connection, get them on my side, then have them create my meal the way I want it. Then I tip well and make sure they remember me. I also remember to thank the Chef if I can or at least ask the manager to pass on my thanks.

I believe a skilled waiter loves the exercise of their skills more than just taking an order and delivering food. I keep waiting for one to resist playing along, but in 7 years I have not had it happen once. Instead, I have even made some lasting friends that way.

I sometimes notice that my companions will get in the spirit too. It's nice to see them getting exactly what they want instead of just trying to find something they might like on the menu.

I don't think of that as being picky, rather I feel like I am more of a participant.

I will order the least suspect dish I can then eat what I know is good for me and ditch the rest. That may be an over simplified answer but it works for me.

You would take cheese in your purse on a date?

What about structuring a date that does not involve food? Is that possible? I've been trying to imagine socializing in a way that does not involve eating. Why is eating always such a formidable part of being social? What activities might a date involve? After years of being hooked on food, I am trying to modify my thinking, like planning outings that are too busy for food. Let's get Outside the Box, as we explore how to go on a date that features an activity beside eating.

I do not date as I am married, but when going out with girlfriends I always suggest a steakhouse or a Brazillian restaurant, you know the kind where they just keep bringing you more and more meat off the stick? YUM! And they usually have great dancers and ambiance too.

Don't make a big deal out of it. Just say you're eating low carb and order accordingly on the menu without apologizing. The bigger deal made out of it you, the bigger deal of it perceived by him.. and, it's not a big deal!

If you go to a Mexican place, get fajita's and forego the tortillas and beans. Nice meat strips, onions and peppers, plus lettuce, tomato and guacamole on the side. Great lo-carb and still oh so yum!!
