Cruises and Maintenance

Hi All!

August 29th we are leaving for a 7 day Alaska cruise which I am
really excited about! I am teaching on the cruise (part of a group
of about 60 folks) so it's work for me, but I have alot of time off
for sightseeing including the eagle preserve
But to my question....

I have a very solid meal plan which includes Greek yogurt/walnuts/blueberries for breakfast, 1/2 flax muffin. I am sure they will have yogurt on board but the carbs in it could be questionable. I know I could eat eggs and meat for breakfast and they have it available each morning, but not my favorite.
The other meals I am not too worried about as I can have salads and meat
without sauces, veggies so long as I don't eat too too many calories!

So I wondered if anyone has cruised doing low carb? Last time I did I gained only 2 pounds which I considered a minor miracle

Ideas?

Bella

Hi Bella, I've never been on a cruise but I'm going on a group tour this summer and also have some breakfast concerns. I'm planning to bring a bunch of single-serving packets of flavored whey protein powder that I can mix with a small glass of milk or water if all else fails, or yogurt of course. I figure I can keep a packet in my purse at all times!

Bella, We did an 8 day Mexican Riviera cruise in April. The primary l/c breakfast options were eggs and meat. I stayed away from the yogurt. Other choices that I worked in also included melon and strawberries, grilled tomatoes and cheese. Lox and cream cheese were also available, but I am not a lox fan.

Great ideas....the yogurt I imagine has too much sugar for me even on maintenance.

we did a cruise in December and you will be fine. There were a million and one choices, easy. At dinner my waiter knew what I wanted after the first night, grilled mahi mahi, grilled steak, no sauce. No matter the menu he arranged that for me.
Breakfast I did eggs, but I love omlettes. They had several types of yogurt, but I do not eat yogurt, so I didn't pay attention.
Enjoy

I've been on 5 cruises since 2004, all low carb. No problems whatever in staying on plan. I know how to eat, regardless of where I am. In fact, I've lost weight on cruises between all the walking, the fitness center and the excursions ...

I'm not going on a cruise but will be going on vacation with my son and his family. I am already worried about my "routine" of eating. We will be staying on Gulf Shores in a high rise condo sort of setting with cooking facilties. Son says the plan is to eat breakfast and lunch there and to out to eat for supper. I will bring as much of my lc foods as I can and there is always grocery shopping. Just makes me a little nervous since it will be my first vacation in several years.

Prairie, where did you get those single servings of whey powder to mix?
Sounds like a good idea.

Hi Bella -- there may well be other brands/ways (wheys?), but after picking up a Biochem whey and greens packet to try when I was visiting a Whole Foods in CA, I ordered a box of Biochem whey packets online (available from many different vendors) -- without the greens, which I found a little though no doubt very healthy. They have chocolate and vanilla and maybe plain.

I also ordered a box of single-serving organic PB packets from Justin's Nut Butters, because I know any PB available in hotels will probably have HCFS and hydrogenated oil. Seems like another great breakfast item and something I can keep in my bag for a snack. Justin's Nut Butter
