The last 15 pounds: how long?

Hi! I posted something very similar to thisin the Main Lobby, and someone wisely suggested I should ask the folks who frequent this area.

Did anyone lost that last 15 pounds without exercise?

With or without exercise, how long did the last 15 pounds take compared to the pounds before?

Was there anything else different or notable about the experience, compared to the pounds before?

Thanks!

i never really focused on weight loss (and i only had about 20-25 to lose) so for me it was more like the last 8lbs. those last pounds definitely take longer than the rest. what i realized when i got down to a point was i could lose even more weight but that wouldn't really change that i looked flabby. i have curves and want to keep them, but i always admire women who look strong, healthy, and fit. i have lupus so it is hard for me to do tons of cardio (lung and joint problems). i mainly do callanetics, pilates, restorative yoga and some swimming (1 every couple of months). i just started the callanetics a few weeks ago (2-3 times a week) and have to say that the shape of my body is totally changing. i wouldn't even care if the scale goes up because i'm looking stronger and leaner every day.

years ago, when i was able to do heavy cardio, i definitely lost faster. i'm happier now, though, because my body doesn't feel like crap after working out.

When I started losing weight, my original goal was 140 lbs, which was 25 lbs less than what I weighed in April 2006. I was close to that goal last year when we changed our eating habits and started only buying food from farmer's markets or direct from the farmer. I haven't done any systematic exercise to lose weight, but in the summer I sail at least 2 days a week, so that probably counts.
When we started eating local, that cut out all of the processed low-carb foods I'd been eating. I went from size 10 in May to size 6 in August and have been able to mostly maintain over the winter, but I'm up 4 pounds from my lowest weight and I'm thinking that I should probably start walking again. I know I feel better when I exercise anyway!

I lost all my weight with exercise. The last 15 lbs. were the toughest, and took a long time to lose. I think it took me about 2.5 months to lose the last 10.

Exercise may not have a lot to do with actual weight loss, but it's had everything to do with keeping it off for me.

2.5 months, that's nothing! I've been 15 pounds from goal since last summer. If I can lose it anytime over the course of 2008, I'll be happy. I'm even ready to try ... brr ... exercise. So that's encouraging. Thanks!

I used exercise from day one with my Atkins. the last 15 pounds on the scales was a huge morph in body actually as i changed my lifting program to the BFL one and added over 11 pounds of lean body weight to my body as i shed the fat mass. I was a scalenumberaholic too so I was one frustrated loser chasing a scale number and not going by body fat %.I was 168 and had less then 15% body fat when i called goal so it took me a little over 11 months to get there cause I was 181 on June 1 2003 and called goal may 2004. Since Dr Atkins says to use 6 months to shed the last 5-10 pounds I had expected it to be slow getting there I just didn't realize I was there as according to the BMI and the height weight charts i never got to goal predicted weight.

As well as all the other factors, it depends where you've set your goal. If you're aiming for a low body fat level it's going to take more time and effort than if your goal is at the top of the "normal" range. I can stay around 25% BF quite easily, but if I want to be closer to 20% it takes a lot more effort (food and exercise) and I only approach it slowly.
