Struggling with holiday eating

This is the first year since starting Atkins that I've let the holiday goodies get to me. I have a lot of stress this year because of some health problems and family problems, so maybe that's the difference, but I've eaten junk for 4 days in a row, and I really need a good swift kick.

Because of a health issue I can't work out right now, so it's been really hard for me. One thing is for sure, this has made me realize how important exercise is to keeping me on plan.

Starting today I'm back on plan. Just needed to post this for accountability.

Julia:
Kicking your ass!
Especially since exercise is "off-limits" right now, remember a good clean diet is of utmost importance. Getting on plan will "center" you during stressful times. Eating off plan just adds to the stress.

You have amazing and admirable discipline and it shows by this post of accountability. I know you can get back to plan and stay on it!

Keep posting...

There are certainly alot of goodies around aren't there!

Last night my husband had a big chocolate chip cookie with an added fudge piece
in the middle. He asked me if I wanted a nibble to which I said firmly You know I don't eat that. So there!

Turn around Julia and take this

It does get difficult with lots of stress but I thinkg indulging off plan just makes things worse in the long run. You will feel guilty for eating so much and then you will become discouraged also. You just need to take charge there and be firm about it with yourself.

Julia - I've lost almost 30 lbs while side-lined with an injury. I know it's frustrating - I was working out several times a week before my injury. You might need to lower your carbs a bit, but you can still maintain and/or even lose.

Just stay outta the junk! That is not going to help. Eat clean and the rest of the burdens seem lighter. You can do this!

Cool!! Like kickin some cyber butt!!

Seriously, you have done great with your lifestyle change, don't get too discouraged. It's only been a few days and we all know what a challenge this time of year is anyway. Too much food, too much stress, etc. So, take a deep breath and go clean something next time you want to eat!

Your photos and posts are inspirational to so many of us.... We're using you as a role model, so don't mess up! Seriously, I'm about the same age as you, so I am serious when I say you've been one of the people on the boards that I always look to see "what's up" with. It's always so nice when I see other 40 somethings succeed with this way of life.

Sending you a of support!!

Thanks, Deb. I'm so glad that my pics and story have inspired you. I have had a couple more "slips" face-first into the Christmas cookies, but after Tuesday that's it, no more. The good news is that I have been able to start working out again! The exercise is motivating me to keep it clean, and I really can't wait to get back into my normal eating and workout routine when the holidays are over.

Well Julia it has been 5 days since your last post and I hope to hear that your holiday was great. If not there is always the New Year for a renewed sense of commitment.

I think exercise is great for feeling good but it is really your eating that has to take priority.

This is my first time maintaining over the holidays and although I have overeaten legal foods I still feel like a blob. I think it is a universal feeling.

Texoma - thanks for checking in with me. I was going to post yesterday, but didn't get around to it. I still have holiday company here, so it's been kind of hectic.

I gained a total of 2.8 lbs. over the holiday, which is not too bad. I was afraid to get on the scale, but finally did yesterday. I was pleased that it wasn't more, to be honest. I have been eating totally clean for the last few days, but I'm still thinking about doing a week of induction after New Year's Day.

I have my appt. with the endocrinologist on Tues. to find out about my thyroid function. I'm thinking about buying Mary Shomon's Thyroid Diet book, but want to wait to see if I am, in fact, hypothyroid before I do.

Congratulations for maintaining over Christmas!!

Overeating legal foods- that is a challenge isn't it?

I find nuts the hardest to manage actually.
