Anyone decide to ever change their maintenance weight?
Even though I decided to call it goal at 127 lbs-it just seems like it's still too much on my small body. I still feel so heavy walking around at that weight. Starting to notice my size 4 jeans are starting to get a little snug, too. I have no choice but to go down as that's the biggest size of jeans I have in my closet.
I've been thinking about it & was considering lowering it back down to 120 lbs. But I also have some rules for doing that: 1. I cannot starve myself down. 2. I cannot struggle to stay at that weight. I'm also starting to notice an increase in appetite. Ugh. Can't stand that. What do you guys think? Dyan

I change mine all the time. There are times where I just really feel like eating to my hearts content, and will allow the larger size that comes along with it.
Sometimes I just really feel like being skinney for a while too, for which I know comes bigger sacrifice. None of it is making a permanent commitment in my opinion-when you get tired of either one you can always change back. |

Hi Dyan:
![]() To answer your question: I didn't consciously decide or do anything to change my maintenance weight, but I did lose 5lbs (down to my current weight of 120 lbs) after being in maintenance. It just happened. If you are not feeling comfortable with your body at your current weight, then I say go for it. You'd be going from 127 lbs to 120lbs - that's only 7 lbs. But just try not to stress yourself over it. |

Yes - this will be the second time now. I have been thinking about this for a few weeks now.
I have finally decided that I AM NOT A NUMBER... I have been struggling with the increase in the number on the scale since ramping up my weight training and honestly it s*cks... So after a lot of soul searching I have changed that maintenance number for me. This will be the second time...first I maintainted between 153 and 156 for several years and called that goal... Then managed to kimkins my way down to 135 and looked horrible... bounced up to between 140 and 145 for a year and maintained pretty easily until July when I started including a strength building routine. Since about August - I have been anywere between 145 and 152 - usually about 148-149 - funny thing is that I still fit in MOST of my cloths that I was wearing at 140 - except my favorite size 4 AF jeans, cause now I have a booty!!! So for now I've upped my goal range and am going to enjoy my working out and eating right. I know in my head that I am doing everything right to be the strongest and healthiest I can be - I'm not going to let the scale rule that and I'm going back to monthly weighing on the scale and going by the ways my clothes fit! This moring I am as sore as all get out... she killed my glutes tuesday and I think TOM is lurking in the wings ( ) but I never know with that and was 150 this am... I know in a couple days it will drift back down a few.I know what I can and can't eat and am going to keep it more intuitive fueling as I have been doing... So yes another adjustment!

Yes, I maintained at around 133 for a number of years then reset it to 122 at the beginning of this year.
I did reach that for a little while but felt it wasn't the right weight for me to aim for. So I upped it just a few weeks ago and am so much happier. Last edited by Kissa : 12-07-2007 at 04:03 PM. |

You mentioned that your hunger had increased. Are you eating more carbs that would do that? I notice that when I eat too many carbs from oatmeal or ezekial bread that I start to have cravings. These are not "bad" carbs, but they are carbs! So when that happens I lower carbs and eat more protein and veggies for a few days to get back on track.
It takes alot of work for me to stay at 136. But it is worth it for me, so Im still trying! My original goal was 150 but I sailed past that as I think it was too much for my 5 ft 7 frame. I think if you want to lose a little more that 120 is very reasonable for your height. Bella

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Honestly, I think this is the healthiest attitude towards maintenance you can possibly have. I know that focusing on a number is, for me, a path to frustration and feelings of despair. I understand the reason to have a goal number, and if it motivates you to stick to your healthy lifestyle that's great, but I think we all need to get less obsessive about the numbers as we get used to maintenance. Just IMHO. |

I am changing my number. I know I won't have the energy at this weight to weight lift and put on muscle which is probably what is needed to feel happy at this weight. At a size 6-8 I don't like the fat I see on my body. I quit losing a few years ago because others said I was too thin but I wasn't too thin-they were just worried because that's what they do. And at that time I had alot of free time and was doing alot of exercise so I took up less space at a similar size. But I have to see me naked and walk around in this body and I know without dropping fat and then getting on the weight lifting bandwagon I'm just not going to be the bundle of energy I need to be to live anything but a sendentary life. I have the bone structure to be a 115-120 so I've been reinducting and the scales are moving back down.
My personal philosophy this time around is that I'm an adult, I know what's best for me and when i want someone else's opinion I'll ask.
