Anybody return caffeine to their WOE?
Mom has alzheimers and isn't sleeping much right now so I'm not sleeping much right now 4 days a week either. Since I can't nap cause she doesn't nap I need something to keep me awake until the person i hired to stay a couple of nights a week with her arrives. I know all the science about caffeine and insulin levels but I'm not trying to shed any pounds now so what I'd like to know is did anybody who gave up caffeine add it back now that they are a goalie?
If so did it effect your craving control and the amount of carbs you could eat?

I was doing Protein Power, not Atkins, so I never gave caffeine up, and it was never a problem. I usually have two cups a day. I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a sleep substitute, though. I know that many years ago when I worked shifts I just couldn't tolerate coffee at all when I was on nights. It made me feel jittery and tired instead of just tired. If there's any possible way you can find time to get more sleep, that will help you much more.

I didn't give up caffeine entirely, but I did reduce my coffee intake to about 3-4 oz a day when I started this WOL in 2/07 (no soda, etc otherwise). Now that its getting cold outside, I've been drink more coffee and now tea --when I think I had too much coffee. I will admit too much caffeine does have an effect on me...it doesn't affect me immediately but about 4-6 hours later...I get a jittery "empty" feeling, so I feel like I need to eat and so I eat but can't seem to satiate the hunger easily. Given that, I'm assuming it does affect my blood sugar...so I am trying to reduce the caffiene by drink hot water or decaf tea/coffee instead.

so even as a maintnenace Atkins person you are getting blood sugar issues from it. thanks.
As a carboholic I don't need that kind of stress added to the already stressful lack of sleep and dealing with a 2yr old in an adult body that can't learn nor remeber any behavior modification. Guess I will just hire another persons to sit with her on weekend nights and make use of those earplugs and blackout masks. ![]() |

Well I think it is a YMMV kind of thing. I will tell you I have a low threshold... too much of anything-caffeine, carbs, sugar, stress- will throw me off balance. What you are going through would be hitting all my achilles so I feel for you. Hold strong girl!

I gave up caffeine & the only thing it did to me was make me wake up & I couldn't sleep for all the weeks I was off of it. I saw no difference in it other than not being able to sleep.
As soon as I added it back in, I started sleeping just fine. As always, it's a YMMV thing. Dyan |

Hey guys, here is my experience:
I am generally extremely addicted to caffeine. I gave it up for like 5 months and just drank caffeine-free or water drinks the whole time. I lost a lot easier than when I drink caffeine. I have since gone back to caffeine and I think it does have the tiniest impact on weight loss. I think I may try giving it up again soon since I rely on it so much, which just grosses me out. As far as cravings, I think it can totally help with cravings. Such as when I want something sweet I can just have a diet soda instead of seeking out sugar or other poor food choices. This would probably only be a good choice if you only use it in those rare circumstances to satisfy cravings rather than just all the time which might create cravings. Amount of carbs: I guess I could eat more carbs when not drinking caffeine since it seems like I lost weight more easily during that time. However, when I was off caffeine I was also regularly working out 3 times a week. So with all the factors its tough to really say. Just my 2 cents! |

thanks for the info Linda but that isn't what i'm asking. I would like to know if anybody did give it up per Dr Atkins instructions and then add it back.
Since Caffeine is a known insulin stimulator I want to know about that increased insulin effecton maintnennace atkins. |

Giving up caffeine never did anything to me weight wise or carb wise. And then-when I added it back in-never did anything to me weight wise or carb wise, either.
It's a YMMV type of thing as is every food or drink you consume. Dyan |
