No Pain............No gain..........

I have been finding as many excuses as possible to work in the "bad foods" as much as possible....too avoid any discomfort..too make this easy.......
Just realizing that STAYING thin will come with some discomfort and denying oneself the things that everyone else is eating.....yes...it comes with a price..it is not FREE...

I agree with you that it is not FREE!!!

But I would rather pay the price than go back to being overweight.

I have found so many foods that are low carb that I really enjoy though, I don't consider the cost of denying myself. I do have an occasional treat which seems to work well for me.

Staying thin does require making decisions! But it's worth it
Hang in there! We can always get back on track so long as
we havent strayed too too far!

Thin is not free!

We must be willing to let go of certain foods in order to live thin.

"Selectivity is a part of living at peace with ourselves, and personal happiness is living out the vision that we have for our lives. If your vision is to see yourself as a trim person for all the years to come, then you will know that your favorite size has to come before your favorite food."

Great quote, Rebecca. For me there have been three major factors that have helped me keep the weight off for over three years:

1) One day a week I give myself permission to eat off plan. I don't go crazy, but allow myself a few treats. That keeps me from feeling deprived, and during the week if I see something that tempts me I tell myself "you can't have that today, but Saturday if you still want it you can have some". Usually by Saturday I don't want it anymore, and am happy with a few TBS of natural PB and a bowl of low sugar/low fat ice cream after dinner and a couple of glasses of wine.

2) I stay off the scale for a few days after said cheat day

3) Exercise, exercise, exercise. Regular workouts keep me on track. I can't say enough about how much exercise has helped me. It might not be the most important factor in losing, but it is 90% of maintenance for me.

Thanks guys. Great quote rebecca. Last week was just a really bad food week for me, I think I got it out of my system, and learned a lesson.... Next time I am buying food for a party I will wait until the day before instead of buying it too far ahead of time, so that I don't have to deal with temptation all week.

We do have to make some sacrifices and sometimes it is almost painful. You just have to find those reasons for making those sacrifices and stick to them.

Yesterday DH and I went to a Champagne Brunch and there was so much beautiful food. I was standing waiting on the chef to prepare an omelet and talking to another lady beside me. I made some comment about it sure would be hard to stay on a diet with all that food around us. She told me the one thing in life she truly enjoyed was her food and eating what she wanted. I felt a little sorry for myself knowing I shouldn't even be there. I did enjoy the Champagne and yes, I had a piece of my favorite dessert, Key Lime Pie. No, it isn't easy.

I guess I use to consider any WOE (and staying thin) as a sacrifice, so I felt discomfort or deprivation. Now I consider what I eat/don't eat and LC WOE (to stay thin) as a choice...so I don't sacrifice and therefore I don't feel deprived. I know it is easier said than done.

Temptation is everywhere, I just envision how I will physicially and mentally eating the "desired" food. I then weigh the costs & benefits...I usually find the benefit(moment of pleasure) is not worth the cost (guilt/regret, weight gain, cravings) and usually make the choice not to eat the desired food. That said, if I choose to eat the desired food, I make a quick but realistic plan to adjust (not sacrifice) my eating for the rest of the day (or next few meals) so that I can enjoy the desired food fully without guilt or regret. First try to see your WOE as a choice, not as sacrifice and then maybe try to separate food choices from dieting/weightloss- IMHO having too strong of an association between the two makes one feel restricted and deprived, rather than enjoying the freedom of choice.

I like the Stephen Gallo idea of "Box in" and "Box out" food. You could choose to "box in" the key lime pie into your eating just for that one day, then box it out again! I have chosen to box out all white flour sugary things obviously, chocolate, but also peanut butter which I have no control with. I do eat almond butter as it is much thicker and I can eat 1T on a piece of Ezekial bread and be happy. Sometimes I box out nuts for the week if I need to. Im sure you get the idea!

Some day I dream I can manage my eating better. Maybe you can't teach an old dog a new trick..hahaha... I just still stuck in the "I am on a diet, or I am not on a diet mentality." Since I pigged out all week, I am up 5 pounds.....so back to the diet I go.

Yup, thin is not free, but Atkins makes it cheaper than most other ways of eating.

We can luxuriate in good healthy food.
