![]() I think I was eating too many calories, especially in the form of too many calorie-dense snacks. I've cut out virtually all snacks except things like coffee and diet soda, and have decided to try cutting back the fat just a bit and not being so worried about having my carbs go up a little. (I actually lost virtually all my weight on a more South Beach-like plan, with a higher carb level than I eat now, before I read these boards and other low-carb material so much!) Half an apple may have more carbs, but it has a lot fewer calories than a handful of nuts. I have to say I have felt a little grouchy and psychologically deprived, but today's result is worth it! Congratulations to all on your success this week! Prairieprof, I find your observation about the calorie / carb balance very interesting especially after reading on another thread that you deal with some thyroid issues. Me too. I'm on Armour Thyroid FWIW - 75mg per day split. I read about people with thyroid issues (on meds) upping their carbs a bit with more veggies and fruit especially if exercising. I suspect I have sensitivities / allergies to wheat so I stay far away from any grains. I seem to do OK with my carbs a little higher in the 50 -75G range (or I'm sure even higher on some days). My low carb brain has difficulty wrapping itself around the fruit thing! But I seem to have had my best, consistent weight loss stretches when including a little bit of it - even higher carb things like apples, pears, oranges. So you might be onto something! Please keep us posted how things go with the menu changes you are making.
It's still all one big experiment though! I think I've finally got my progesterone right, at least for the moment. Finding the balance where I have enough (no more night sweats or hot flashes, and good sleeping) but not too much (bloating) takes a little time. So far I only switched my evening dose back to the cream from the oil as I didn't want to waste the oil I still have! That will be out soon though so I'm sure I will go through another adjustment period when I switch out the AM dose. But in any case, with this settled down I've been back in the 148.X range for the last two days. I had 3 days last week where I broke 150 and that is unsettling! I want to get this back under control before it gets out of hand. I had also gotten away from tracking my food intake. At some stage I hope to know my limits and be able to make the right choices without having to record everything I put in my mouth. But I'm obviously not quite there yet! A return to food tracking has shown that calorie creep definitely set in. That doesn't help. So...I've got work to do this coming week!! That's my long winded way of saying that my average weight for last week was 149.71, down only slightly from the previous week of 149.74. DG

I have to go out of town for a couple of days so I'm doing my weigh-in a day early. 116.0!! I've stayed 117.0 or under all this week. While I may have raised carbs just a little bit with a little extra fruit, it's been mostly about cutting snacking to the bare minimum. And I've had virtually no nuts and absolutely no nut butter all week, surprise surprise. For the moment I'm missing those things less than I expected, although I know I'm not planning to give them up.
I did eat a load of grass-fed beef meatloaf the past two days, and spinach with olive oil, so I'm sure I've been getting plenty of calories. |

123 today. NOT GOOD but I on the other hand have eaten more than my fair share of nuts and peanut butter this week and have been snacking way too much.
Happy weekend to all. |

Hi, everyone!!
131 today, after going up to 135 in a ski holiday. The cold made me eat more and the bread with cheese was delicious. Back to my regular habits, and really quick to lose the excess. Have a very nice weekend!!! |

Hi all- been lurking for a while & time to get in the game. Need your support.
weigh in today- 119 Maintenance has always been a struggle for me. Losing weight I can do (blocks of time being disciplined- blocks of time going way off the deep end) Even keel is what I need. LC has been a life saver for me. Feel much better Friends, family have said now that you have lost weight- why are you still on this? It makes me feel good (former carb addict/ dad passed from diabetic stroke This will save my life ( used to eat whole pizza/ entire bag chips/ whole box of cookies- mountains of mashed potatoes/ fries) I have been less strict for the past months- so I get away with a day of eating pizza etc. -it does not show the first day- but slowly there is a creep up & does not come off. Lost 40 lbs in 4 months in a snap- just started, did not stray & surprised how easy it was. Went to paris in July when I reached goal-came back still at goal & maintained until Sept/Oct birthday celebrations etc. Off/on but within range Jan/ Feb- has been a struggle, 6lbs over goal seems not too bad- but have been losing the same 3lbs over & over- down 3, up 3. Considering I gain the most this time of year (yeah, yeah-winer) I don't feel right & my clothes are snug- worked too hard for this. I am coming up one year of lc woe (so proud- but no one else get it out there) Goal: 118/117 & maintain then 114 for summer- ( have a had a few 123 days- too many for my liking) sounds a bit dramatic- but the slippery slope hits quickly for me. A few of you out there are about my height & original goal. You have been able to be stable for a long time- I would like to learn from you all- Hopefully I will make the Friday weigh in routine- Love reading through your posts for motivation! |

Hi dezibee, nice to have you join in.
Congrats on your weight loss and getting to the maintain part. Guess your friends don't understand the concept of making life changes that keep the weight from returning. For me it is a much healthier way of eating also. Just tell them you are set for life. 120 Goal weight for me today!!!!!! I'm happy about that. Avitar is my Mom (second from the left) and her sisters. Last edited by Loretta V; 02-20-2009 at 09:51 AM.. |

Hi everyone and congrats on your stats!!! And of course Happy Friday TGIF!
Welcome dezibee. Boy can I relate to eating the WHOLE pizza, bag of chips or cookies, etc. One slice/chip/cookie was NEVER EVER enough for me. Congratulations on getting to your goal and maintenance. I love your determination and realistic perspective too. Finally I feel like things are getting back under control after too much flirting around at the highest point in my goal weight range. Today my weight was 148.4 and my average for the week so far is 148.9 which is the lowest for 3 weeks now. (my software goes Sunday through Saturday for weekly stuff) WHEW. I just can't stand the thought of gaining back a bunch of weight so I would rather sweat it and work it while it's "small stuff" relatively speaking. Since getting my Vitamix my fruit consumption has gone up a tad in both volume and variety. (smoothies and protein shakes mainly) I don't really understand how or why this is working, but I'm not going to complain! I really need to start tracking this phenomenon so I better understand what I need to do day in and day out going forward. Just haven't had time to enter new food items in Life Form. anyway...enough of my babble already! Have a great weekend losers!!! ![]() DG |

DG- Just noticed you are sugar free, alcohol free & smoke free- Congrats! You have had the power to make fantastic changes. Those all are the hardest to break free from, yet the most important for long term health. You look great in your picture- you must feel great too- Since my dad's passing this has become for that just a "diet" for me- so your accomplishments show that it can be done. (just wish my dad had stopped smoking & gone sugar free)
