For those of you maintaining, can you take this short survey?

Thanks in advance!
I know there's a lot of variation to these answers but I hope I'll get some ballpark figures for how to maintain the weight loss. That is the key after all.
Losing is much easier, isn't it?

1. How many calories/day
2. How many carbs/day
3. What is the constitution of your carbs? (fruit, veggies, bread, etc)
4. Do you exercise and if so, how often and what do you do?
5. How much weight did you lose total?
6. How long have you been maintaining your goal weight.

1. don't count
2. don't count
3. carbs: 8 servings of fruits/veggies, 1-2 servings of starches or sugars (try to avoid "junk" food carbs most of the time...)
4. I try and walk 5000 steps on most days and do yoga a few times a week
5. I lost about 60 pounds total, from my highest ever to my lowest ever.
6. My body likes this weight and I've been easily maintaining for a couple of years. I've thought about going lower a few times, but my body really resists it and I like what I'm doing too much to make a change.

I have been maintaining for a year. I think maintaining is harder than the weight loss phase. I am not going to be much help because I do not count my carbs or calories. I keep an eye on how many carbs are in the foods I eat but I don't count them. I exercise 5-6 times a week for 40 minutes. I do circuit training 3 days and cardio the other 3 days (treadmill 4.3 mph 40 min). I started at 159 and now my weight fluctuates from 122.5-125. I eat ALOT of yogurt daily - 3-4 cups (w/ 2tbsp of flax per cup), too many nut, veggies, eggs, and meat - in that order. During the week I will usually eat 2 apples, an occasional plum and I throw raspberries, blackberries and blueberries in my protein shake if I have one after working out. I don't really want to lose more weight, I just want to firm up what I have.

CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS to all of you who are successfully maintaining for so long.

I can't wait until I can say as you, that I've maintained for 1 or 3 years. That is an AMAZING accomplishment!!!

You should be very proud of you - I am!!!

I've only been maintaining for a month, so I will refrain from answering in here, as Maintenance is still so new.

1. How many calories/day?
Out of principle, I never restrict or even count fat, calories, or portions. Menu-wise, carbohydrate restriction alone provides what has proven necessary for me.

2. How many carbs/day?
It ranges from about 80-110 total grams per day.

3. What is the constitution of your carbs? (fruit, veggies, bread, etc)
Low-carb processed products like low-carb bread, protein bars, low-carb cereals, tortilla wraps, and the like are not kept in my kitchen. However, I do have use for the sugar-free baked good products, as I bake low-carb desserts to enjoy on the weekends. My daily menu consists of lots of vegetables, nuts, some low-glycemic fruits (mostly berries and some melon or cantaloupe), and adequate protein (I meet my RDA for my sex, weight, and fitness level).

4. Do you exercise and if so, how often and what do you do?
My cardio is 20-30 minutes of brisk walking (never running), 3 mornings a week. Full-body resistance training - using light weights and lots of reps - is 2-3x/week at 45 minutes each. 10-minute Basic Ab Workout For Dummies, 3x/week.

5. How much weight did you lose total?
About 35 pounds.

6. How long have you been maintaining your goal weight.
Since late 2001. It took 5 months to lose, and I began Atkins in August 2001, doing a loose Induction all the way to goal. (I then increased carbs in 5-carb increments week by week until I hit my "limit" for Maintenance.)

1. I don't count calories but I am aware of portion sizes.
2. I do a rough count of carbs. It ranges from 40-80.
3. Veggies, some nuts, some fruits, some lc desserts, a little lc bread. Can't eat many wholegrains because of asthma.
4. Three times a week I go to Curves. I walk 4 miles 3 times a week and 6 miles
one day a week. I also go to a yoga class twice a week. Love my exercise!
5. 32 lbs. I vary now and allow myself 3-4 lbs before cutting back a little.
6. Since April this year.
I have found maintaining to be very challenging, harder in many ways than losing because then I counted every carb and had NO CHEATS as my policy. Now I have a couple of meals a week where I eat some "forbidden" foods...small portions. I still haven't learned to relax and feel good about my "free meals", even though they don't make me regain weight.

Krystal
1. I don't count those.

2. I've stopped counting. I know what foods I can eat and how much my body can handle and I've settled at an easy to maintain weight.

3. Once a week I'll have legumes or some higher carb vegetables like sweet potatoes. Other than that, I eat unlimited non starchy veggies, meats and fats. Sometimes I'll have an apple or some cherries, but I'm not really a fruit person. I may only eat them a few times a year. I never eat grains, processed sugar or white potatoes.

4. Yes, almost everyday. I alternate cardio with weight training.

5. About 45 lbs give or take.

6. About three years.

Thank you everyone. It's great to see all you people maintaining for so long. it's also comforting to see that yes, I can eat a lot of carbs (just healthy ones) once I reach goal weight.

I think what is very evident is that those who are successful in maintenance are the ones that practice moderation and the big important one: exercise!! Sometimes there's no gettin' around it, you just gotta do it!

Krystal

1. 1400 to 1600
2. That depends... I cycle low carb and low fat... low carb means 40 to 60 and on low fat under 120.
3. Veggies first, then fruit, then ezekiel bread
4. 3 days a week for sure - weight lifting only (6 to 8 weeks) then 1 week all incline walking 10% grade for 1 hour.
5. 102 pounds
6. I lost all the weight in 8 months - started in 2/2004 - so about 2 yrs. of maintenance.
