1. How many calories/day
Approx. 2700 2. How many carbs/day Approx 324g 3. What is the constitution of your carbs? (fruit, veggies, bread, etc) Tons of Veggies, Good amount of Fruit, Oatmeal for breakfast, occasional wraps 4. Do you exercise and if so, how often and what do you do? 4 days a week. Lift heavy weights. Very little if any cardio. 5. How much weight did you lose total? 115 lbs in 7 months 6. How long have you been maintaining your goal weight. It'll be 2 years this November Formula I use for calories estimation is: Take your weight and multiply by 11. This is your "just to live and function" caloric needs. Due to my age and activity level I took my "live and function" caloric needs and multiplied by 40%. Then I added the two numbers together to get my total calories to maintain. To figure out carbs/fats/protein, I multiplied the 2700 by 40%, 30%, and 30%. Then to figure out grams I divided these numbers by 4, 9 and 4. (The number of calories per gram in the carbs, fat, and protein.) I am maintaining using a Zone type % base of 40/30/30. (In case it wasn't obvious from my last statement). Everything I eat is natural whole foods and organic as much as possible. |

I have maitained at goal weight for over a year I think
I set one goal and the weight went down further so I stayed there! I don't count calories or carbs or anything. I eat lots of meat, veggies, cottage cheese, nuts, and yogurt! I also eat coconut ,flaxseeds and peanut butter as well as LC tortilla and low carb ice cream. I eat no bread rice or pasta. I did have dreamfeilds spagetti once and it was good and didn't affect me! I do eat yams and sweet potatoes. I also eat cheese and fruits of all kinds.I drink lots of coffee with half and half and Da Vinci's syrup! I was excercising a lot (swimming and biking and hiking ) but am too busy working on DH's political campaign to excercise now! But I walk around the house a lot while on the phone! LOL! But I am no longer as paranoid about things like hidden carbs and sugars when dining out.I do my best to avoid them when I make my choices and just forget it. I am no longer at the point where one "accident' will throw me off course!

1. How many calories/day I'm not sure... I've never counted to be honest.
2. How many carbs/day Still only like 20-30 because if I eat more than that, I start gaining. 3. What is the constitution of your carbs? (fruit, veggies, bread, etc) All veggies, aside from maybe one LC slice of whole wheat bread per week, or some chocolate covered strawberries. 4. Do you exercise and if so, how often and what do you do? None for me!!! That's probably why I can't really increase my carbs though. 5. How much weight did you lose total? About 20 pounds over the course of 2 years (gaining and losing, gaining and losing... hoping to stay on track this time ).6. How long have you been maintaining your goal weight. About a week!!! LOL Good luck on your maintaince! ![]() |

Here you go....
1. How many calories/day - I don't count 2. How many carbs/day - I don't count BUT I do read every label and stick to foods that are within my plan 3. What is the constitution of your carbs? (fruit, veggies, bread, etc) - I eat tons of veggies. At least one salad per day, and typically about 3 additional servings of veggies. I eat fruit about 4 days a week on average. I eat whole wheat english muffins, pitas or flat breads about 4 days a week. And I have an occasional sweet potato. No rice (I really don't like it anyway.) No pasta. I do admit to eating small amounts of off plan stuff once in a great while (like while on vacation) such as a french fry off my husband's plate or a couple of tortilla chips in Mexico. NEVER sweets. 4. Do you exercise and if so, how often and what do you do? 6 days a week, primarily running (5 miles a day) and some sporadic weights. 5. How much weight did you lose total? 43 lbs 6. How long have you been maintaining your goal weight. Just about 1 year!!

I know there's a lot of variation to these answers but I hope I'll get some ballpark figures for how to maintain the weight loss. That is the key after all.
Losing is much easier, isn't it? 1. How many calories/day depends on what I'm doing. I feed my hunger and stop most of the time guilty of a few extra bites some days. It varies from 1300 on not too hungry days when the gym is out of the question and it is rainign so we are not going hiking to over 3000 on gym days. 2. How many carbs/day now that my shoulder is fixed and I can go to the gym and lift again it is back to over 100 net ( total minus fiber. no mythical magical noncounted counting carbs here). On nonlifting times it runs about 45 net. 3. What is the constitution of your carbs? (fruit, veggies, bread, etc) all induction legal ones, lots more veggies, nuts seeds, legumes, fresh dairy, oat and corn bran, wheat protein/flax rolls. I was never into grains before other then as a sweets delivery system or popcorn so I'm not a big grain eater now other then an occasional bowl of oats because as a carboholic I'd eat the whole container if I allowed myself one bite. 4. Do you exercise and if so, how often and what do you do? BFL lifting 3X HIIT treadmilling 3X 5. How much weight did you lose total? 146 pounds if you don't count all the up down daily fluxuations bouncing pounds 6. How long have you been maintaining your goal weight. since May of 04 with a couple of pounds regained in 05 after my dad died but not enough to need a bigger pair of pants even. Krystal

Do you exercise and if so, how often and what do you do? 3-4 times a week. Weight training and aerobic exercise. Moderate amounts. 5. How much weight did you lose total? 43 lbs 6. Several years. Great poll. I hadn't seen it before.
1. How many calories/day Very roughly 1500-1600 2. How many carbs/day However many allow me to hit my blood sugar target of post-meal < 140 mg/dl at all times and under 100 mg/dl 2 hours after eating where possible. I use insulin when I eat more than 8-10 grams of carbs, and try to keep my insulin under 6 units a day. That means usually I eat under 100 g most days. 3. What is the constitution of your carbs? (fruit, veggies, bread, etc) I eat 1 slice of bread a day--usually multigrain whole wheat without additives. Occasionally I will eat a 1.5 oz portion of artisanal bread. I will eat 1/2 small potato at dinner or very occasionally a small serving of homemade rice pilaf. I eat a few pieces of dark chocolate daily. If I eat a dessert I eat a very small portion, and not very often. I eat tomatoes whenever I feel like it. I don't eat much fruit except berries. I don't eat starchy veggies, mostly greens and broccoli. I eat fresh corn on the cob when available at farm stands. Popcorn as a treat once a month or so. NO snack foods like chips, though, and no fast foods, ever. 4. Do you exercise and if so, how often and what do you do? Nothing formal. I work on my garden every day in summer and run up and down the stairs in the house all day. 5. How much weight did you lose total? 29 lbs. 6. How long have you been maintaining your goal weight. Since Summer 2003. My goal is 142 I have been as low as 137 twice and as high as 150 once (due to a problem medication). Mostly I've been between 141-144 which is my maintenance range. I was 142 this morning.

1. How many calories/day Don't count
2. How many carbs/day Don't count anymore, but estimate 40-80 range 3. What is the constitution of your carbs? (fruit, veggies, bread, etc) Veggies, fruit, cultured dairy, nuts, some 85% chocolate -- very occasionally things like beans, oatmeal (in the winter!), sweet potatoes; no grains otherwise. 4. Do you exercise and if so, how often and what do you do? About 4 times a week, weights and cardio intervals, often work out with a trainer -- plus I have a dog I walk a lot! 5. 1. How many calories/day? I don't count but I'm sure that it is under 1500 most days.
2. How many carbs/day? Again, don't count but have a good idea when I am hitting 50g and try to stay under unless it is a really special occasion. 3. What is the constitution of your carbs? (fruit, veggies, bread, etc)? I eat unlimited veggies, limited fruit, limited legumes,no bread, pasta, rice and sweets ONLY on special occasions. 4. Do you exercise and if so, how often and what do you do? No exercise but I have a physical job. 5. How much weight did you lose total? 32 lbs which isn't a lot compared to some here but represents an amazing accomplishment for me...I am thrilled! 6. How long have you been maintaining your goal weight? Again...not long compared to some...but about two months...also significant.
