Maintainers May 3
What sort of problems have any of you encountered in the maintainence lane?
I tend to eat too many legal things on occasion and have fallen down in my water intake. I maintain my exercise and eat several small meals during the day. (ie 1/2 apple w peanut butter or about 5 sliced carb clever peaches) This frequent eating seems to work best for me. I am hesitant to try too many low carb manufactured products and prefer to make my own. Dh continues to have hallucinations and has not had any of the lortab rx since last Saturday. He is alert to time, place and person but when sleeping he "picks" as his clothes, talks. These events seem real to him with smells or sounds. Could it possible just be the stress of major surgery at his age??? Guess I will call the doc.

Oh Loretta, Yes you better call the doctor. It could be the stress from major surgery or something else entirely.
Could he have thrown a small clot? My dad behaved like that after he had a CVA. I know what awful stress this has been on you too.Maintenance HA!! I was doing fine until I quit smoking and simultaneously developed Hashimoto's thyroditis. Even going back to pure and natural induction doesn't do a thing. I guess I'm destined to be 14 lbs heavier than I was for the past 8 years. ![]() |

I did call the doc and she said not to worry. His system needs to get back to normal after the general anesthesia, drugs and the stress of it all. We will see her next week.
He is doing better today. Maintainence, is not that easy. Some days I really want to eat just about everything I see. |

I'm glad you called the doctor and will see her soon. This might give you some peace of mind Loretta.
No, maintenance isn't that easy - that's why so many re-gain all their weight loss. It's easy to give up and give in to food. This is so true when it's used as a comfort. Linda, are you still doing just two meals a day? I still have that problem when I come home from work and want to reward myself with "something". I always have dinner to make except when DH is gone on business or eating out with the guys. Those days are so much easier because I'll lay down and rest, read, and then go fix something to eat. This is becoming a novel so I'll save something for the next time! Barb

Loretta, It's good you called the doctor. Maybe all the drugs and that general anesthesia is the cause of his hallucinations. Sometimes those are the worst part of any surgery. Please keep us posted.
Are you taking care of yourself too? You better try to get some rest even if you have to have someone come and help out for a bit. ![]() Barb, That has to be difficult coming home and fixing dinner every night. I know you have some cleaning ladies, but can you have them start dinner for you on occasion too? What about your DH and you taking turns or something? Maybe pick up some take out? Several of the big chain places that serve steaks, fish, etc have take out. Just call ahead and pick it up on the way home. Yeah, I just eat brunch a couple of hrs after I get up and then have an early dinner. Sometimes I have a snack of some kind but not often. |

Hey y'all,
Yep, you're right, maintaining isn't always that easy. I had to laugh at one of the guys today... he said 'so you don't eat carbs, you don't eat sugar, what DO you eat?' LOL!!! My workouts are paying off, but dang TOM had to visit this week so I'm bloated grrrrrrrr At least I know it will leave soon. I am glad that most of the junk I used to eat just doesn't appeal to me much any more. Especially the sugar stuff. Loretta, hopefully a little time is all your DH needs to work all that extra crap out of his system. I can't imagine hallucinating, that would make me nuts certainly if I knew it wasn't real. Linda, I"m with you on the 2 meals a day deal. We don't eat early in the morning, we're still ASLEEP! We generally eat our big meal at lunchtime @12:30ish, and then I eat dinner at work around 6 or so. On the weekends we tend to stay somewhat on the same schedule depending on what we are doing. Barb, it is much easier when you don't have to plan a big meal. Last year when DH was gone up north for a month I didn't hardly cook at all. Saved a bunch on groceries too ![]() We finally got this 'puter running right. Had to wipe the hard drive, reinstall windows and this time we bit the bullet and went with XP. Not sure how I like it yet, but I'm sure we'll get used to it. We're going to hang on to the old one for a little while to make sure this will stay working well and then DH will get all his goodies burned to CD and we'll probably clear the Compaq and sell it........we'll see. Not much else going on here. Hope all have a good night!
