Weekend Check-in for Maintainers

Thought that title would take off some of the pressure of checking with such a small but wonderful gang.

Boy o'boy -- do we have snow!! It blew in again last night and we are socked in - 80% chance again for tonight! I better get out and get supplies!

Sounds like KY and TN are also getting flooding rains. Loretta, the pictures of church were very serene. they are lucky to have your assistance and help. Are you still counting money?

Of course, this is all coming from the NW! How's the liquid diet going Julie?

Susan, take care and don't worry about weight! Getting some help and having your support is the best thing for DS right now. Your life gets put on hold until.......

Linda, are sitting outside in a lawn chair sipping a cool one?

Enjoy the day....

Morning Barb and all you good friends to come.

Christmas in March....oh wait, that's not right. Hummm somethings not right here...
I hope you have all your supplies lined up and ready for winter girl. I sure love to see all the snow. It's so purtty when it first falls. Kick back and enjoy.

SuSun, our hearts are right there with ya sweetie. I agree with the rest, don't worry about the food right now. Just get back to it when you can. Family is #1 to take care of.

Loretta, sorry I've been so wrapped up with my problems I've neglected to tell you how nice your Church looked. You did a grand job there. We use to have a great volunteer team to decorate ours but through the years it's deteriorated. Our Church is pretty blah lately. Hope to see you here this weekend.

Linda, did you get your new stove and cookware? What kind of cookware did you end up with?

Ginny, all that chicken? wow! Glad you got a good price and the fur kids will sure enjoy that extra treat. How often do you put extra goodies in their food?

Partly sunny today but cool. 36° here right now. C is going out to DS1 to help with the new house. I think I'll finish my book and get down to the library for another one on hold.

Barb, the liquid diet is pure he!!. I'll only do it until dinner today but I did feel a little better yesterday. haven't put my bra on today yet so not sure how I feel. After my little experience the Dr. will reevaluate. I think I'll break down and try a med and see how I do on it. If the RLS has me up all night, then I'll reevaluate again. Isn't life fun as we age and things wear out.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Lol Barb, I guess that "little Blizzard" turned in to a real good storm, eh?

Oh no we are not sitting outside in lawn chairs just yet. It's only in the lower 50's.

Julie, gosh what a mess you are in. Are you going to try the pacemaker thing? I would opt for that rather than meds, but that's just me. I HATE meds.

No stove yet, it will arrive next Thursday. I think. I'm still looking at new pots and pans.

Loretta, how is DH doing and is he going to have that surgery?

Susan, (((hugs))) and keep on keeping on. You are a great mom.

Ginny, Good for you for stocking up on that chicken. LOL if Bird Flu hits here, at least you won't need to worry.
How is the house hunting going?

Waving to all lurkers and ex members.

Hey gang,

What a GORGEOUS day we had here!!! 70's, a bit of a breeze, mostly cloudy, but I was in capris and a tank top We went to a greenhouse for my DSisIL's dipladenias and a couple other things.

Julie, sure do hope you're feeling better now. Liquid diet? I think I've missed something. Good for you taking some time to read, I haven't done that in a long time.

Linda, for non-stick I love my T-Fal, and for regular stuff I have some excellent stainless steel that I've had for over 20 years...good heavy stuff that will be in great shape when I'm gone So what kind of stove did y'all get?

Barb, on all that snow, but I know you need it. How much did the mountains get? I'm sure it will help a lot re the fire threat. Stay in and stay warm!

Susan, hope all is going well for you with DS. Did you bring Oliver with you for companionship too?

Here's a little something to set your minds at ease. The avian flu that everyone is so worried about is not going to be a consumer worry. The chicken industry has safeguards in place, have you ever been past the chicken farms? These birds do NOT get to be outside, they are grown up in houses and have no contact with outside birds. Before the houses are emptied, birds are brought in for testing. Any bird that does get outside is destroyed to keep the health of the house intact. The industry is VERY strict about the health of the birds, so the consumer can have faith in their food sources. I was reading about avian flu, and it is in countries that do not have the restrictions that are in our operations in the US. Also, we export, not import birds, so the likelyhood of this flu getting to our domestic flocks is extremely small. There are also human restrictions in place re those who work in the live production side of poultry.... such as they are not allowed to have or be in regular contact with any domesticated birds (no parakeets, parrots etc). Anyways, I just wanted to let you know so you don't worry about the safety of our poultry. Here's a link, I hope it works!

Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!

Interesting article Ginny. I'm not going to worry about something we have little control over and will continue to eat chicken. Actually we are having some tonight. I sure wish the Beef industry could reassure us about Mad Cow disease. Oh well.

Stove.... I'm not replacing my DACOR drop in range, because they cost about $5 to 6 Thousand now. DH ordered a white, glass topped Frigidaire slide in. I can't use aluminum or copper on the thing but my old stainless doesn't have those real flat bottoms. I'm still looking.

Think I'll head to PA today for a little look see.

Morning folks....... it's a WHITE Sunday morning here and very pretty!

I'm going to get those boots and snowshoes and go for a walk pretty soon before it melts.

KY is getting a lot of rain - Loretta hope you are dry and on high ground!!

Ginny, I agree with that article and don't really pay much attention to all of these warnings. I eat chicken, beef and fish. Just think of me as putting my life into danger with every bite. But then, just the proximity to those veggies and fruit on the plate -- must make it healthy.

Susan - just for you ~~ Happiness comes of the capacity to feel deeply, to enjoy simply, to think freely, to risk life, to be needed."

Linda, have you thought about a Dutch Oven set for the backyard? For our cowboy club get-togethers, we cook everything outside with Dutch Ovens. Yum!

Have a relaxing day.....

Hi to all,

Julie, what is this about a pacemaker???? I know you are having problems with your GERD, but this is the first I have heard about a pacemaker.
Julie, gosh what a mess you are in. Are you going to try the pacemaker thing? from Linda's post. I am surprised that you did not lose more being on that liquid diet. How are things with Nick and your DD going for you? Maybe some of those things are at the root of your problems. Just the stress of it all. But not sure what can be done about the stress.

Linda glad you got your new range. What about Revere ware for your flat bottom pans? I think it comes without copper clad bottoms. I am not all that impressed with the glass topped ranges. My DIL has one but seems like that top needs a lot of upkeep on it too.

Ginny we have had some of that very nice 70º weather too. Nice taste of spring, but the storms have been bad too. Lots of damage especially in Cape Gerardo, Mo. Local damage also but none here at our place. Glad you got a deal on the chicken. Thanks for that article. I am not concerned enough about avian flu to stop eating chicken. We will have some today.

Barb glad that you got some much needed moisture even tho it was in the form of SNOW. Guess you will take it. Thanks for keeing us going here on the Maintain Mountian. Glad to hear that your mom is keeping herself busy with church activities and outings. Good for you to know that she is out there participating and not staying home. I'm sure that grieving takes a certain amount of time but it is healthier to try and go forward.
Since I have become a little more involved at church it seems as though I find much more meaning at church itself. Several of us old grannies have started to serve at mass. Old "acolytes". Most of our parish are retired older people, we don't have hardly any young people let alone teens. One of the visitor's grandsons was commenting on our OLD male server saying that he thought that he was beyond the age of being a server. Just wait until he sees us old grannies up there.

Susun I was so happy to see your post. You are where you need to be right now. You certainly have enough worries on you mind without being too concerned about those pounds. You and your family are in my prayers.

Our doctor's appointment is for this coming Tuesday, March 14th in the afternoon. We will see what she has to say and what John's options are about the surgery. It is crappie fishing season and he would like to fish first. I don't see why we have to rush into any surgery. He has probably had those lesions for a while already.

What a beautiful, sunny morning we have here today. 37° I love morning with sunshine.

Linda, I guess I'm confused on the stove issue. So is this one a replacement or just another one for the time being?

Ginny, we can't worry about the chicken. If we worried about everything we read about, we couldn't eat anything. Unless we are told NOT to eat it here in the states I'll continue. Glad that freezer is full for now.

Barb, wish I was there to go on that walk with you. It's usually so peaceful walking in the snow. Does your DH go walking with you or are you a loner like I am. I actually would rather walk by myself. Then I can go the pace I want.

Loretta, The pacemaker Linda was talking about is for the stomach muscles. They tell me my problem isn't the GERD but at this point I don't think they really know for sure. My stomach emptying study showed food sits in my stomach way longer than it should. So that is the reason for the liquid diet. To push all the solids through. I have to tell you about all I can eat on this is pudding, ice cream, eggnog, milk, milkshakes, juice, jello, broth, custard, Ensure....you get the picture. SUGAR! I am not one bit better after 2 1/2 days of this. I'll continue until tonight again. The nurse is suppose to call tomorrow to see how I am doing. They do have a drug to help which isn't good for me. It causes my RLS to flare up big time. So surgery is another option, the pacemaker, to start the muscles to contract. But like I said, I'm not even sure or convinced at this point this is my problem. My lower esophagus is still inflamed and swollen plus my hiatal hernia. If it is my hiatal hernia I will definately get that fixed w surgery. So all this is speculative at this point. At least in my eyes. Enough...

DD and I are getting along very well right now. I think her new DH has helped with that. She even took a birthday card out to her brother yesterday. He's the one she had the big blow up with so there's hope there.

Nick is doing ok. We have told him he has to move out by May 1st. It's time. I don't think he'll grow up until he's on his own. It'll be 2 years the end of May and I feel we've done as much as we can for him. His court graduation has been pushed forward to August. Too bad as he was suppose to graduate the end of Jan. His resposibilities has cost him dearly.

Now, on to my sunny wonderful day. My middle child turned 40 today. Dang that makes me feel old. He is building a house so no birthday party for him. I think he has a deadline of Monday so still doing lots of little stuff on it.
Love all of you for being here for me.
SuSun, thoughts of you daily. Sending my for all of you.

So you are getting lots of snow Barb. At least you will have some snow pack to help with the fire season.

LOL We cook outside all year long but I use my dutch oven in the house.

Loretta, good to see you here. We miss you on WWS too.
I can't blame your DH for wanting to go fishing before he decides on any surgery. You are right, he has probable had those lesions for a good many years.

I do have some very old Revere pots and pans but they don't have the flat bottom. I'll look at those.

It's good to hear you are becoming more active at church. Those things help so many people.

Julie, My old DACOR range died so this is a replacement. We already have one range in the basement kitchen and sure as heck don't need three of them.

How nice that you and your DD are getting along. It's about time. And it's also good that you are cutting Nick lose. He will be better off standing on his own two feet. Sometimes we just enable dependent behaviors.

See you all tomorrow .
