Maintainers, for those of you who lost your weight on Atkins ....
While on the weightloss portion of your journey (especially those of you who have lost large amounts of weight), did you do the steps as outlined in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? i.e. transition from induction to OWL, find your CCLM, find your CCLL or ACE, do Pre-maintenance and then Maintenance?
Why do I ask? I did OWL with induction-level carbs for most of my journey, and have just started up the carb ladder, actually starting 50 carbs as of today. It is a very weird and counterintuitive thing to do ... adding food after all this time, lol!! and of ourse you wonder how the successful ones did this ... I am wondering how the transition went for you and how you got to where you are today in understanding what you personally need to do to maintain your desired weight. Thanks so much for anything you can share with me!!! Pauline

Hi Pauline so very nice to meet you. Congrats on the wonderful job you are doing in your weight loss journey. I think that each of us develops our own system as we go along. I for one have not counted carbs, calories or anything else. I try to eyeball the calories and carbs both. Because of hyperlipidemia I follow a low fat and low carb woe. It seems to work for me, but it took some adjusting. Lots of fat free foods are loaded with sugar to make up for the lack of taste. I tend to stick with the reduced fat items. and READ THOSE LABELS. I have tried to add in certain foods and if after a month or so they are causing weight gain, I quit them. I guess you could call that "TRIAL AND ERROR". If you check on the Golden BB you will see some of the maintainers menus. We are Goldens (oldies) and just hang out over there. Best wishes for continued success. Loretta

Loretta said it all...TRIAL AND ERROR. Don't be afraid to try different foods. After all this is for life..we need to find a way to live this way forever or the weight will all come back on. So experiment and be sure to check back here and let us know how you're doing periodically. We can all learn from each other and we do! ![]()

Hi Pauline, No I didn't use that particular Atkins plan but one of his earlier plans, which I feel is easier and much more simple ....Just your basic proteins and legal vegetables...with other low glycemic fruits and a few higher carb vegetables added in later on.

Thank you so much for your responses. I realize how individual it is once we get to he place where we want to maintain our weight. I have always been very successful at losing wight, lol! It is the Maintenance part that really will determine for me success or not. I have come to the conclusion that most folks do not follow the latter stages of the various plans - both the successful maintainers and the ones who cannot maintain. I am going to go the official route and see what happens, lol!!

Differences? I allowed myself tofu when on induction. I only did strict induction the first two weeks of this and never went back to it, as it was too restrictive when you do not eat animal flesh. When I did "induction" after the initial two weeks, it was induction-level carbs, i.e. 20 carbs with OWL foods ... the big addition being nuts which I eat a lot of and eat daily. hth ![]() p.s. feel free to pm me if i can help answer any other questions. |
