heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp me
Hi everyone. I'm Lauren, I'm 19 and I live in CA. I'm doing Atkins induction right now. I'm a "vegetarian" but I eat fish (and eggs) so it hasn't been tooo hard, but I'm really wondering what I'm going to do when I go back to college. Its going to be much harder eating in the cafeteria, and I was wondering how I can continue to do lowcarb there. I'm OK for breakfast and lunch, but for dinner my only option is going to be a salad, and I KNOW thats not going to cut it for an entire year. So, do you think I'll be able to get away with eating more once I lose the weight this summer...Can I maintain eating the bars, shakes, nuts, peanut butter, etc? I don't know what else to do as I won't have a kitchen. Sorry for rambling on so long. Any advice is appreciated. Have a happy day!

Well there are several things that you can do.
First of all, I would reccomend something that I saw on here. "Breakfast eat like a King, Lunch eat like a queen, and Dinner eat like a Pauper. If you keep dinner to small things like a easy tuna salad, cheddar cheese, or vegtables with your choice of dip. Things like that can be kept in a refridgerator and take little tie on your part to prepare. These are also good study group snacks. Make deviled eggs. I like to make up a bunch of pin wheels (private message me if you want or need the recipe) and have those for dinner. The key here is to eat less at night anyways. It is okay to have little snacks, but you should eat your greatest meals for breakfast or lunch.

doodoo...
Check on the INDUCTION half of that silly broken listing. God knows why Induction and Maintenance were cobbled together like that. INDUCTION is fun and there's a lot to share on that page! |

Hey Lauren,
Good thinking planning ahead like you are! If you don't have a small fridge, get one now. Will you be rooming with anyone or will you be able to keep others out of your food? If need be, install a hasp and padlock on the fridge before you go back to college (college students tend to be hungry, so keep your stash safe!) IMO, stay away from the bars and shakes. Your best bet is to eat more natural stuff, veggies/dip, tuna, cheese, nuts and the like. The bars/shakes can mess with your digestive tract and make you bloated or gassy.....not a good combination! I like what the previous poster said about eating your big meals at breakfast and lunch, then light for dinner. It certainly can be done, and with minimal trips to the grocery store. If you eat cheese, consider the mozzarella string cheese sticks (Sams has the best price I've found). They're 'snack size' and it's one item I've carried to work with me for a quick snack.

What kind of food service does your college offer? If it is cafeteria style, just get something with protein (like, say, a chicken sandwhich or hamburger) ditch the bun and add it to your salad. Every now and then my college caf would have a LC-friendly dinner like roast beef or roast turkey. Remember you don't have to eat the sides.
Read up on Induction friendly foods so you can help yourself by having the widest variety possible. It seems like a lot of people don't know that things like olives and avacados are allowed on induction in moderate amounts. See the complete official list at atkins.com |

I see this is your 1st post. Just a suggestion, why don't you post on the main bb of this site? There are many young people there who might be in the same position you are in attending school and have more information and help for you.http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/forumdisplay.php?f=3 Unfortunately it has been 40 years since I was in college. Also Our Cheri, has a wonderful site that may have some valuable information for you too. http://www.geocities.com/cherilynn82000/Newbiepage.html Hope this helps. |
