THURSDAY for the MVM

Good morning everyone,

I feel ok after the stationary bike. My goal is to do the 40 minute ride 3 times a week as my aerobic alternative to the other three times anaeroobic (weights and machines.) I slowly worked up to it, starting with 12 minutes. It's a great calorie burner and getting my heart rate that hhigh several times a week will force the growth of collateral cardiac circulation (which is what kept me alive for 5 years when my Right Coronary Artery blocked virtually completely. Ginny, you should try it, it is EASY on the knees and I really have the WORST knees in Christendom, sometimes my knees scream at me even from certain seats in the theater...and I find running almost crippling!

I will have to take and post a picture of our EL CHEAPO RANGE. We, of course, have natural gas. Landlord fu^ked up and gave us free gas because he though he could save 12 cents on buying the units. Silly asses didn't realize that with brutally expensive electric heat some inventive tenants would figure out some, ahem.....CHEAPER ALTERNATIVES
Anyhoo, my preferance is for gas burners atop and an electric oven. Like Ginny's propane, natural gas makes 2 molecules of water for every molecule of carbon dioxide when burned. Meat is STEAMED in the broiler/oven and it makes for dreary, very UNcharred steaks!

I think adult ADD is a way to squeeze PRICEY medication into people who were formerly thought slow-witted, dull, incompetent and lazy. It's a made up disease. But bi-polar disease (formerly known as manic-depressive schizophrenia in its worst case) is a deadly serious menatal disease with life destroying manic behavior alternating with suicidal depression...left untreated, death by sicide is the usual outcome.

Today,
Brooklyn Museum for the MONET show (MONET'S LONDON,) on this dreary, moist but mid-70's day. Maybe some Middle Eastern food (Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn is a haven of Moroccan/Algerian/Lebanese kind of cooking (babaganoush or bestela pigeon pie anyone...MORE PITA?)

Off to the races!

SEIZE THE CARP!

Morning folks.......

Getting back inside because it's too hot later to even go out! Actually we have DOG DAYS OF JULY rather than the "DOG Days of August". In August it will rain. Also, dog days comes from the rising of the dog star, Sirius, from July 3rd until August 11.

Ginny, got your email.

Jacki, the house looks so neat. You have really spent a lot of time on it and it shows. How's induction going?

SuSUN, calming down now that the one year mark has passed? Some friends of ours are going to Africa and lay over is in London. Yes, they plan on riding the buses, subway, and whatever else suits their fancy. They "believe" it should be safe NOW.

Colorado just announced that they will put registered sex offenders on a web page for anyone to see with pictures and all of their data. Our sheriff for this county said that the last time they posted pictures, they all moved away.

Zip, I LOVE your description of ADD. Actually I would add that it goes back to family structure. When discipline, chores, and parental control were in -- we didn't have ADD.

Was that "hint, hint" the other day so that we would all take a shower? I don't care for bikes but do use the treadmill and my knees are still in good shape. Swimming is the best exercise they say (as long as one has a pool).

Loretta, with all of this advice, have you hid in the closet yet? Sounds like M needs more than what you can give her. I feel for you and getting into this situation. And company, again? Is it your hospitality, pleasing personality, or the LAKE that drives them to your abode?

Need to go drink more water and "do something". Vacation time for me is slipping away.

Good afternoon everyone. The sun is shining and it's so nice outside. I'm not going to do a da*m thing out there today. My muscles are sore and tired from 3 days in a row of shoveling, wheelbarrowing, mowing, digging out and spraying! Shawnee.....my Gramma Hulda rose is no more---I dug that nasty fungusy diseased rose out! It was just covered with rust and right there beside my JP Daybreaker roses too. That dang thing had roots to china and tough ones at that!

This morning I went walking with a friend then we decided to drive off to Costco. About an hour drive and a pretty one at that. Yakkity Yak yak yak and I'm pretty sure the ills of the world would just go away if they'd just listen to us and let us run the show.

Induction is going well. I think I'm down about 11 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks. That's a guesstimation since I don't own a scale. I know what I weighed when I did Atkins the first time and I am sure I weighed at least 5 lbs over that this time. So, going by that......11 lbs!! Not too shabby huh? But...why OH why does the back 40 acres have to be so stubborn???? Patience girl patience! I'm feeling great!

Thank you on the house compliments...I'll post before and afters of the back of the house after we get the new porch added.

I hope y'all are all having a good day...Hugs

Honey, I'm home!!!!!!!!
Just a quick note as I still have unpacking to do and wash. We had a glorious time, weather was perfect and company wonderful. We hiked over 2 hours each day and I was able to do it. First time I'm been able to walk that long in months. Felt so good. Now back to reality.

Got an email from DD and she wants to talk person to person and resolve some of the issues. I shouldn't do it but I will. I left a voice mail telling her I still and always love her and will talk to her this weekend. Hope I'm not sorry!

Will be back later if I can or tomorrow. Mariner's are playing tonight and need to catch up on the newspapers and mail. Need to catch up on all your doings too.

Hi gang, Boy another hot one here in upstate NY. I'm getting tired of it but what can we do?
This damned fool turned on the oven to cook some beef ribs. Not too bright, eh?
Oh well, at least we have some snacks ready.

Roger, bummer on Bob being called in. Hope your day was enjoyable anyway.

Oh dear. Did your cardiologist set up a referral to someone he trusts or will you have to go to # 2 on the list?

I must disagree. My 57 year old brother was finally DX several years ago. My poor parents, strict disciplinarians, went through absolute hell with him since birth ( hardly ever slept) and all through school ( talked and disrupted class ). He was exceptionally smart and excelled in Cascadilla prep school and then Cornell, although he was always distracted by something or other.
He did settle down later when he voluntarily joined the Marines and served a tour in Viet Nam. LOL he had to be very still and quiet there.

Neither my youngest brother or I had any of those problems.
Unfortunately my DD does and she, like my brother, is not dull or lazy. Incompetent is another story, but only occasionally.

You are going to be surprised at the number of registered sex offenders in your area. We have had a public list here in NY for over a year and Wow!!

Shawnee, see above. Now I'm gonna tell my DD and boy are you three going to get it.

Hi Jackie, glad to hear you took a much need day off. Hope you enjoyed yourself.

Welcome back Julie, we missed you.
Catch up and post when you can.

Later

Oh I'm sure there are exceptions Linda because I know some ADD adults and it's REAL. It's just for the majority of the population there probably needs to be more disipline by parents. Your brother wasn't DX until an adult. In those days we didn't know as much as we do now.

Tonight they had a segment on the news about going with some supplements (Gingko and Fish Oil) for kids and diet rather than meds. I believe this because I've seen it work but too many parents don't even know what their kids are eating. They said that some have food allergies to wheat, corn, etc. I believe that one also and look what we feed them! CHIPS ! Then a group wants to put a warning label on soda(pop) just like tobacco and alcohol. How about sugery cereals and grandma's apple pie?

Welcome back Julie and happy that you got sooooo much exercise. I just read that just walking helps depression and thinking through problems. When DD calls, take the portable phone. Hmmmmm.. I wonder how far you'll get? DD wants to talk? Is this AFTER you declined the invite to the wedding? Maybe she sees the "light".

Jacki, you are right about running the world. Women would probably do a much better job anyway and some of us could manage to solve all medical problems also.

Eleven # is fantastic!! Go Girl!!

Later.....

Barb, your suspisions are right. I feel she wants to make it all right so we'll come to the wedding so her DD's can stay with us instead of her having them in their room. I may be all off here but history repeats itself. When one wants something, they get all cozy. Grrrrr

And I agreed with Barb.

Of course this is a "blanket" statement, and should be interpreted as such...since we all know that all illnesses come in various degrees...and there's exceptions to every accepted Dx label.

However, its interesting to me that, given the strick, life-sustaining need to control one's thoughts/impulses/ actions in combat (and survive!) reflects one's ability to improve/overcome/harness said disability, even under the most horrendous, stress-inducing situation possible.

I don't like Labels, cause some kids will live up (or down) to them..some adults too.

Julie !

.be back later, must feed the Finn now; he's been mowing, and deserves pampering

LOL did the Finn kick you off the JD?

UGH Julie, my heart goes out to you.

Hi Susan, hope you enjoyed that movie.

Ginny, let's hear from you, OK?

I have a lot I could contribute to this talk on bi polar. You know Nick was dx when he was 10. Yes, I said 10. He was on meds till 2 years ago and then he went off them himself. I suppose he could be in remission but since he's lived here for over a year, I've seen no sign of bi polar. In fact with his group counseling, he is even more stable than me! I was so mad all those years that he had to be on all that medicine without a second opinion. He got fat and was labeled. Poor kid didn't have a chance.

SuSun, Ella's pic were so darn cute...thanks.

So whats going on over on that other bb with the water thread. Need to go look I guess. No one will step up AGAIN??????????? Grrrrrrrrrrr
