MVM MONDAY CHAT

Good morning everyone,

The show, PARIS LETTER, was really WONDERFULLY ENGROSSING. It dealt with 2 men who met and fell in love in college and remained closest friends throughout life though one (Ron Rifkin), from an extraordinarily weathy Jewish family, sought "getting straight through years of psychiatry 5 days a week whule marrying an living a tortured life, and the other (John Glover) accepted being gay and he lifed a happy, though non-conformist life...even introducing his two dearest friends who married happily...for awhile.
But then, like all good dramas, the unburied urges percolated to the surface and financial ruin (huge hedge fund dalliance involing the Enron collapse), multigenerational recrimination, regret and suicide took center stage...good dramatic catharsis and BRILLIANT acting all round from 5 BIG acting talents.
Good Americana dinner afterwards (Pork Loin, sweet potato, and creamed spinach....with a nice Blue Cheese Salad to start!)

Loretta,
I tabulate my calories in "Super Books," 4x6 notebooks with 200 sheets/400pages from the dollar store so each is good for more than a year. I tried Fitday and it drove me bananas taking 3 times as long as just scribbling my food. The toughest part is estimating meals eaten out but other than that it's easy with a good scale and the USDA Foods Nutrition site...and the handy dandy Nutrition Labels on almost all food. By now I know at least 3/4 of each days entries by heart. With a notebook entry it is always quick at hand. If I had to go to the computer every time I grabbed a yoghurt form the fridge I'd go bonkers. And all those programs get SO MANY things wrong...I HATED Fitday, I was constantly correcting it's doofy screwups on quantities and some really bizarre caloric entries...like putting in a tsp serving of sugar and it recording the calories in a 1 POUND serving of sugar! OY

Liz,
What can one say? First off, don't pooh-pooh the material; it's important. If you HAVE it, sometimes it gets taken for granted but there are people whose relationships are massacred by the endless bickering over too little money. Your choice is really TO BE OR NOT TO BE...married to him. (That old saw works in a LOT of situations...the bard really knew human nature!) If you accept YES, then maybe you need to compartmentalize your life a bit and live parts of your life separate from your family. Remember, he IS what he IS and will probably remain what he IS; you cannot count on changing that. All you can do is change how YOU relate to the marriage. If that's enough, then it can work; if not, well, then it cannot.
It's always easier if we have someone in times of illness so you got a double helping of merde but we play the hand were dealt.
Tell me about your MS...I know little. First off what type is it: Relapsing-remitting, Primary-progressive, Secondary-progressive, or Prgressive relapsing (in order of awfulness?)

A/C sleeping was good last night. I FINALLY got the monster unit (15,000BTU's) in the bedroom set to a tolerable level of deep-freeze. THe humidity is still low and it's the high humidity that heeds a small unit to work well. Unfortunately the humidity will begin to SOAR along with the thermometer today...Nothing planned.

Have a nice day everyone.

Morning folks.......

Gosh Zip, you are doing well with all of that counting and calculating. Maybe you should write a NEW diet book and make a fortune. I wonder why Bob hid those cashews?

Ginny, you haven't had your AC on? Wasn't sure if I got that right. That seems unusual for TN. Bet you are getting a lot of rain right now.

Loretta, I agree that you should not let M become too comfortable. I wish there was an easy answer and SOME agency out there that could help. TP? Does she know how to use tampax.....just a thought.

Liz,

1. You ARE in an abusive relationship.
2. You CAN live separately in the same house!
3. Kick him out of that bedroom!
4. Keep a journal of all things said and done for later use.
5. Your daughter does NOT need to be growing up in this type of situation. What is his relationship with her, most father/daughter relationships are quite strong.
6. You need a family counselor who can also be a mediator. My sister did this and someone listened to both sides and helped them come to some mutual agreements. Both sides have to give.
7. DO NOT move out of the house. This gives him the upper hand.

Lastly, you can only be put down if you allow him to do it.

I have never been in this situation and was quite smart back in my twenties (even though I was a blond) to NOT get married and have the freedom to move on when needed. I you and give . You are stronger than you think!

I just love giving advice.......it's taking it that's harder.

Zip, you need to depend on public transit -- does it make you nervous with the security threats? I have never been in a place with police walking up and down with dogs, etc. At least that's what the pictures on TV show.

Take care all of you rain-sodden NE folks. Wet and humid doesn't sound like a great treat!

We are heading for 102 today and several fires burning in the area but not close. Most are in such deserted wilderness areas and canyons that structures aren't threatened.

Later, after more caffeine!

Gosh, I've been proven wrong already this am.

There ARE wildfires burning 150 miles south of Denver that are causing evacuations, etc. Never heard of any before coming that close to Pueblo that people have to leave.

Loretta, you asked if I was going to run anymore. Heavens, NO! We were visiting friends yesterday and she has made up a "love me" wall and on there has accomplisments, etc. One is the fact that she ran in the Peach Tree 10K in 1990. I haven't gotten that way off my rocker yet!

Mornin' y'all,

Rainy here today, yeah, go figure LOL! Nice to sleep with the window open and hear the rainfall, slept like a rock. They're still saying rain all week, but we'll have temps in the low to mid 80's which will be pretty nice for this time of year.

Barb, you read it right.... we haven't used the a/c yet this year. I'll put it off as long as I can since it causes my head to stuff up being in a closed up house. I don't blame you a bit for not wanting to do more runs! Stay safe with the fires going on!

Zip, good luck keeping the place cooled down to tolerable levels! Is this heat and humidity unusual for y'all? I generally keep a running tally of carbs in my head, I've been doing this so long it's second nature. Would drive me bonkers to figure calories too.

Not much new this morning. DH gets his new glasses today so off to town we run for that and the post office to ship some plants. Everyone have a good day.......

Good morning kiddies,

It's going to be a miserably hot few days around here, but I understand we may not get much rain from Dennis. We shall see. Those weather people are never right.

It's off to an appliance store later to order a couple of oven control knobs and maybe a burner unit for my 18 year old Dacor, drop in electric range. When I saw the price of the new ones , I about dropped dead. So we will replace parts and keep it
going.

Roger, My god that show must have been very thought provoking. I would have cried through it. How sad

Fit Day is a huge PITA!! It is so much easier to use a kitchen scale, nutrition labels and the USDA site.

BTW when is your trip to the beach house? Hope the weather cooperates this year.

Barb, so how far are those wildfires from you? Are you near Denver? Stay safe.

Ginny, How on earth do you stand the heat? I run my air conditioner most of the year. it seems to filter the crap out of the air and keep my allergies somewhat at bay.

Looks like our temps are going to go higher than yours so we just sealed up the house and turned on the air conditioners.

Have you ever tried Ayr nasal gel for that stuffed head? My ENT recommended it, and it's wonderful!

Off for more coffee and some errands.
Waving to all.

Oh, it's HOT! (91 already and climbing...THI will go over 100 if it hasn't already.)

Did a walk to ShopRite through half the mall...second half was shut down because of a black smithereened bus parked outside. Whether it caught fire or exploded is yet to be determined but it was a princely mess. Security was intense. Remember, we sit atop the HOLLAND TUNNEL and the PATH tunnel. After Shoprite I went down to cool gym and had a workout...not a good one, I'm tired today, but SOMETHING. It's also nice washing down there and leaving the wet towels behind rather than having to pay to pump the moisture out of our apartment through the A/C's.

QUIZNO's tonight...have any of you ever TASTED one. GOD they're good!

Bob's hiding: I could have a pair of his loafers fall out of the closet and find one of them filled with M&M's . I keep screetching that that is a good way to get ROACHES...all I can do is try to stem the tide and keep EATING his goodies!
Last time he snuck a half gallon of BREYER'S into the freezer, I threw it down the garbage chute...it hurt me more than it did him; he knows I'm a penny-pincher!

Hi Y'all

OK, Y'all HEAT HOGGERS .....Please send some this way !
Another cool, kinda dreary/windy/showery one here...

Went for the Echocardiogram thingy before 8 Am...results maybe in a week.

Going for the "bump" removal at 3PM...I'm prepared: went to Wally's and bought some bloomers called Sporty Boy Brief , NO elastic in th legs.

Have a few bright garden treasures in the gloomy gardens..took a few pics while killing time between appts.

This is a fussy rose, always getting some damned disease or another...But I had to have it 'cause my DS's named REX

This is a tough Carpet Rose, called the Fairy

Pretty sure this is a Tiffany Rose,...I moved a lot of them around some years back...

Shawnee,
As the movie goes they are all PRETTY IN PINK...my fave is the persnickety REX. Seems delicate for that robust name though!

YAYA...STARGATE all evening. If they every take it off I'm going to have to go into rehab to get through the withdrawal. I'm almost able to quote the characters as well as I was able to quote RALPH AND ALICE or RICKY AND LUCY!

Linda,
Good for you on replacing the burner elements...to HELL with the throwaway society. Good things should be kept for a long time...and then they are supervaluable as antiques! Imagine is someone said, ohhh the Sistine chapel is so dingy it needs WALLPAPER! Have you priced a 1959 Cadillac these days?

Humm, note to self, stop hiding nuts or we may get roaches. Guess I need to stop buying them. Gerard can smell them a mile away and eat them all up on me. LOL I can have one bag last several months as opposed to his one night of eating.

Roger, I'll be damned if I'll pay almost 6 grand for a replacement Dacor range at this stage of my life. I'll spring for the 800 for two plug in surface burner units.

So what is poor Bob to do if he wants a treat? My gosh he is thin and should be able to enjoy some once in a while. Humm, maybe a small freezer with a lock to keep you out? I keep threatening Tod with that.

Shawnee, Shawnee, Shawnee those pictures of your roses are absolutely stunning!! teehee now I'm ashamed to post my poor little deck pots of posies.

OY, I hear ya on the undies. Those sports briefs should do the trick though. Hope all is well and you aren't hurting too much. Had a couple of cysts in that area my self years ago.

Susan, My gosh, Ella is going to have a very memorable 1 st birthday. Hope she remembers it
