WEDNESDAY on MAINTAIN MOUNTAIN

Hi gang,

Shawnee,
Thanks be to the gods in Valhalla that your roof wasn't set alight. I think the last story I'll read before I shuffle off this mortal coil will be that yet another kid had yet another hand shorn of most of its fingers with a cherry bomb or an M-80.
True justice was burning down THEIR OWN barn.

Linda,
Thanks for that Land's End tip...I'll try their site next for the short-shorts.

Bob is taking a day off (3 movies and a show! ) so I am left with a day to be creative with...hmmm? It's nice looking a clean and neat apartment...why doesn't it stay thay way, sigh!

I go back to the gym on Friday and I'll welcome it...but then I need another freeze in August. I'll make the three weeks in July do DOUBLE DUTY...better buy a Case of ALLEVE!

I wish you all a nice Wednesday, your Zip loves you

Damn plateau <muttering under breath>

edit:
Oh nuts, the Land's end shorts measure the 6" from the crotch seam...that's STILL too long for my taste. I wish I'd kept my mother's Overlock machine so I could do decent hems but alas it was a professional model the size of the Andrea Doria! Every hem I try with the cheesy Singer comes out with two legs different and a weird curl to one of the legs! Always a disaster that winds up in the garbage!

Good Morning Roger and those that follow!

Bright and Sunny again up here today, we did have a mixture of rain and sunshine yesterday, so good for the garden. Lots of lush greenery around at present.

A quickie today, running around with DD to get some last minute things for Ella's Birthday Bash on Sunday.

Scales moved down agin today....finally after a month of stalling.

HUGS to Y'all.

Good morning Roger and Susan.

It's time to stay off the scale It just doesn't want to move, so I'll ignore it for a few days.

Susan, congratulations on the lbs lost. you are on your way.
We had rain and thunderstorms last night too. Unfortunately it's still damp and cloudy. Push that front to the south/east, OK?

Roger,Bummer on the short length. I guess the inseam is what they measure.
Gerard HATES those long, baggy shorts too but it's difficult to find short shorts now a days.
I looked on Dick's site and found some with a 5" inseam. Check it out. Other than that, how about checking a second hand or thrift shop?

Shawnee, let us know what happens to those darn fool kids.

Waving to the rest of the gang.

Afternoon folks........

Nice, beautiful, warm weather here in the Rockies. The "Ride the Rockies " bike trip that takes place every year just went through town yesterday. It is soooo much fun to watch those cute guys in those tight spandex shorts!! and...... they are so physically fit!!

Lesson to be learned - never throw out old clothes! Shorts are difficult to find in the right length especially when you are short! I bought capri's one year and used them as slacks!

Shawnee, I HATE fire works expecially for THAT reason! Thankgoodness your place is ok. When living in Denver many moons ago I saw a kid lose a finger when it exploded. They were in the street and held on too long. I will never touch them again nor did my kid.

Susan good going on the moving scale. You can move it on over to Roger's next while you stop at Linda's.

Fire buring in a canyon about 20 miles from here. BLM is letting it go to encourage a healthier ecosystem. It laid down for the night and the wind this afternoon should pick it up again. It does benefit the wildlife and cattlemen also to get rid of the old and decaying pinon and juniper.

Not much else going on and will talk at you all later!!

Hey gang,

I have missed chatting with you all. Just making some time today.

Zip did you look on line for the shorts in the length you want? Yes you could hem. Take some old long pants and give it a try. You could always sew them by hand.

Barb hope your "walking" injuries are healing up for you. Will you enter another race, despite your experience with this one. Bet the summer is passing all to swift for you.

Shawnee that fire was much too close for comfort. I agree with you about the stiff fines. Thank goodness there was not more damage or injuries.
We have had such dry weather here that most home use was more or less banned, but I heard a lot of noise around here.

Julie did you decide to attend your DD's wedding? Just wondering if you had come to a resolution about that. What is Nick doing for the summer? How did the birthday party go?

Yes, Linda stay off of that scale for a while. You can have confidence in your woe. It is just you metabolism adjusting. I enjoyed the pictures you posted the other day but did not get to comment about them. Lakes and ponds always appear so peaceful to me. I'm glad we live on the lake here in KY.

Ginny glad you got some needed rain. I agree with you on men's short lengths. Sometimes the basketball players look goofy with their longer legged shorts. How are all of the pups? Is the meclizine working well for your older pup (CANNOT remember his name right now)

Susun glad to hear that your pounds are finally coming off for you. KUTGW
Get lots of pics on Ella's big day. Enjoy the party, that first one is so wonderful. I know your DD and her DH are thrilled to have her.

Not any good news here, but not any bad news either. Stopped to talk today at court house about getting guardianship. M does not have any things in place regarding power of attorney or living will. Good advice from the gal at the court house. (Marcia became indignant stating that she can handle her own affairs) I will be happy to turn them over to her. I was happy for her to hear and be aware of what is happening. If M does not appear in court for the DUI in Nevada she will possibly lose her driving privileges. I think that would be a very good thing. Current situation is to wait for Mental Health consult on Aug 10th and take it from there. Things are not too bad otherwise.

Thanks for your thoughts and advice. We will accept both.

back at ya.

Loretta,
DON'T go for guardianship; it might open you two up to financial responsibilities that you don't have now!
Just keep going as you are and if the COURT wants guardianship down the road, let them have it!

I agree Loretta with Zip! Isn't he always right? Guardianship opens up a whole new ball of wax! The mental health consult should be good -- let you know what she is capable of doing - can she work?

Oh yes Loretta, I will do another race any time, this was ok. There are rules but this yahoo had some go-go-juice in one of those lipton bottles (glass) and didn't think when he tossed. He did come back and tell me how sorry he was, etc. etc. but-- not until after he finished the race in good time.

Of course, without stopping I probably would have been first! I did met some very interesting people along the way walking and visiting also. My dh thinks that since I would rather talk and visit than run, it was a blessing!

Matter of fact, I met some guy from Florida who has now re-shingled the roof of his house for the third time because of hurricanes. He has sold it for a profit and is moving inland. He said that they don't have any place for storage there (no basements, carports) so they always buy new plywood and other supplies.

Linda, how's the John Derre running? Have you had a ride yet? I'm glad Julie started her challenge. It's good to read about weight loss and goals.

Yes, hemming is good! You have a needle and thread? Don't even need a machine. Before my DH married me, he would cut off his pants with a pinking shears and turn it up and put a big basting thread through. As he washed and the threads would pull out, he would just cut them with his pocket knife! For that, and other reasons, he needed ME!!

Zip, are you hanging up your running shoes? Are you feeling badly about the Olympic bid?

Thought for they day: Benefits of aging: Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them either.

Quick run through. Have the 2 DGKids today or should I say Chuck did most of it. I was out of town till 3:45. Trying to get dinner going. So will make this short.

Loretta, we have decided not to go to DD wedding. I informed Jana, my 15 yo DGD and she said to me...it's ok Grams, you have to take care of yourself first! My Gawd, can you believe she gave me that sound advice and from a 15 yo?

Nick...hmm may need some tough love here. He hasn't looked very hard for a full time job yet.

Barb, thanks for the vote of confidence and yes, we do need to talk more on eating, not eating and goals.

Hi Zip, SuSun and Linda. Got to run and fix dinner.

Hi Y'all

Still cool and cloudy here, hardly the sizzlin' summer one would expect by now.

Plans for the family picnic still ON, even if it rains Sat. Hell, we're a tough bunch..and some of our best times have been in crud weather.

Nice surpirse this AM...Jacki and I got together for coffee and chatter....she was GOOD and walked to my house.

Julie, your DGD is showing some exceptionally mature insight; so if ya have a twinge of guilt, just repeat her words to yourself!
As for Nick, well...the kindest love in the long haul is tough love.
Anyone can be an over-indulgent Parent/Grandparent (that requires no talent!)... but it takes unselfish love and backbone to do the right thing.
I'm sending ya BIG WISHES for plenty of Backbone!

Anyone been trying new Recipes? I've kinda gotten out of the "invention mode". Seems I've been doing mostly simple meat, vegs, and fruit.

Zip, years back there was a Prison program called Scared Straight. Kids who were on the threshhold of trouble were exposed to it, and it scared most of them sh*tless.
Maybe its time for a Fireworks program, with bloody fingers and burst eyeballs dangled in their faces.
Yeah, it was their own barn/garage...but it also took out a neighbors too!
Morning paper said "hope the kids had learned their lesson" and it was not yet decided if they would face charges. Cops were there this evening.
Apparently this neighborhood learned NOTHING...I'm still hearing fireworks exploding tonight.

Hey Loretta ...Zip's so right about NOT having guardianship...it can drive ya nuts with stress, and put ya in the Poorhouse too.

Sure missing your "gabby" posts.

Barb

LOL, isn't it nice to be needed?? Sometimes I wish I had NO skills at all, and was just needed for myself .

Quote:

NO DOUBT, since you can run in the thin air of the Rockies!

Ginny, I passed on a Shower Jel to Jacki...told her how great it is for shaving legs
How's things in the GH?
Did the shorts work?

SuSUN, has Ella had swim lessons yet? Most babies take to it like ducks, and its a good safety idea, since they have a pool.
Will be wishing Y'all a super Birthday Party!

Montana, YOU must have a hell of a time finding pants with the right length! At my 5'4", I do. Most Capris are so long on me, they hit just a few inches (4-5") above the ankle...look silly..as we used to say "High water pants".
Time for me to get out the sewing machine.

To ALL, Contentment.
