Stats: 58 pounds GONE!
WOE: Low Carbing it! :)
Start Date: 1-27-03 GOAL 12-03! Still Maintaining!! :)
Those on maintenance....need input....

Just wanted to ask those of you on maintenance if you have reduced your fat or calorie intake? I mean like switching to different mayo etc.

I have maintained since December 03, always in my 3 pound window....today at one below....but I was just wondering if I should look into cutting back on my fat intake.

Your thoughts and opinions would be greatly apreciated....

That's why I love this board....so much good info!!

Nope. I made no conscious changes. I don't see where my calories or fats have changed at all. I've been maintaining (and sometimes losing) since sept last.

I tried to cut down on fat........ but I got TOO STARVING. So I'm maintaining well eating good amts of protein/fat, about 1700-1950 cals per day. Had 2200 cals on Friday. Not gaining. As long as I eat my protein and fat, I am good to go.

I am also eating higher carb maintenance items (beans, apples, a slice of lc bread if I want, etc). I LOVE my menu and wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have never cut back my fat or food intake. Keep in mind, though, that I have reactive hypoglycemia and haven't added a slew of maintenance carbs back into my menu either.

No, I don't do low fat except for non-fat plain yogurt when I can't find the full fat plain. I don't keep track of carbs or calories anymore although I do keep a daily food diary. My weight fluctuates--one day last week I was at 112.25 lbs; Sunday I was 108.75; today I am 109.25. Vickie

Hi ladies, need your help!

I was wondering about this question as well. I see lots of posts calling for loweing your fat intake as you increase your carbs. I wonder if this applies to me.

Here is my average numbers from fitday for the past month:

Calories kcal 1422.8
Total Fat g 84.82
Total Carbohydrate g 71.53
Protein g 107.14

Lowering my fat intake to around 50-60g takes my calories down to 1100-1200.

I really don't want to keep my calories that low. I am not hungry at that level, but I am still losing weight at the above numbers. 3.5 pounds in the past month at the above numbers. I really don't want to lose any more weight.

I lost my weight at 1200-1400 cals 20-40g carbs 75-100g fat. I thought I'd do what MJ did, adding in carbs, weight loss picked up and I spun right through the last ten pounds, and I am now 7 pounds below my goal weight. I am ready for it to stop now, but I don't want to add in junk, only good stuff. To be honest though, I am having a hard time getting more carbs in my day. I also don't know how many fat grams I should be concerned with if at all. I rarely if ever go above 100g. I get 20-35g of fiber daily as well from coarse bran, veggies, irish oats etc. I just would really like my calories to be in the 1500-1700 range, but how do I do that without overloading on protein (my numbers look high to me there already) and with lowering my fat?

I am beyond confused. Help!

Seems most everyone must "juggle" their own personal Maintenance foods to keep themselves on the right healthy, satisfying WOE.

What works for some successful Maintainers doesn't necessarily work for others. Fats and Proteins are still my appetite surpressors, after 4 1/2 years of LCing; almost four at maintaining..

As has been said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

AMI: You could increase your Fruits to up your carbs.

Good Luck to everyone

That's a great idea. I only usually have about 2-3oz. of fruit a day. I'll try that.

Thanks!

Question for maintainers: I get heartburn with all grains, but I can eat potatoes without problems. I have to cut out grains for life, but could I eat potatoes again someday in moderation? Or would that be lowcarb heresy?

Grains aren't all that good for us anyway but a potato?? I wouldn't. It does the same thing to our bodies as eating 1/4 cup of sugar.

I just saw the additional posts.

Ami, I agree that adding more fruits is the way to go. Also, if you can tolerate it, I would add plain yogurt.

moonmirror, I eat sweet potatoes sometimes without any problems. I had one bite of white potato a few months ago but it tasted so bland that I don't have the desire to try them again.

WOE: Calorie Counting
Start Date: 1973 :D
PErsonally, I feel that if one is maintaining using calories and getting enough protein (as almost everyone in America does) I think the balance of fats and carbs is purely a matter of choice.
Thus if the carbs go higher, to 100, 200 or even 300 grams the balance can be maintained by lowering the OTHER big calorie source: fat. Given that protein is a bit of a constant you must endlessly balance your carbs off against your fat while keeping an eye on the total calories. THe road back to obesity is the high carb- high fat diet.

Of course some foods are just bad in excess...like sugar, but I think potatoes and grains are fine foods. But now when you look at a potato slathered in a lot of butter, that might be opening the floodgates a little...but not if you are counting the caloric total. As Gertrude Stein might say: "Two thousand calories is 2000 calories is 2000 calories."
