Nutritional Percentages/Calories
Do any of you Maintainers count calories and try to watch your Fat/Carb/Protein Percentages or do you just monitor your carbs? I find myself overdoing it so much on legal stuff that I've decided to give my fat/carb/protein and calories a much closer look. I know the amount of physical activity can make a difference but do any of you know what is truly considered a good F/C/P ratio to follow for Maintenance?

Hi Granny,
Most here seems to do just carbs, but loosely; I'm an anomaly and I count JUST calories with an eye towards getting 100 grams of protein/day since I work out pretty hard. The other eye is on keeping saturated fats ALAP but not actually counting them. But calorie control is the only way I can keep a handle on weight maintenance. |

Thanks zip. Keeping track of calories seems to be where it really counts especially once one reaches Maintenance.

Hi J.G.,
I'm not much help either as I've been so far out in left field lately with my eating. I tried counting calories and carbs around the 1st of the year but I just hate having to do this and that's why I started the LC woe in the first place. I truly believe with me, I do have to try and keep the calories down while maintaining. I've never counted my protein or any ratio of the 3. I've gained back some weight and am back in the saddle again. So I'm not a good person to being giving advice. I wish you luck and maybe I'll see you on the other thread. I need help on this darn maintaince woe!! ![]()

Jewels - Its so hard isn't it? I'm now doing a lower fat, higher carb way of eating. I'm truly enjoying it and when I changed from lowcarb I gained a couple of pounds but I knew I probably would. I just hope that little gain has stopped now. Sorry for your frustrations and hope you get it worked out soon. It is a neverending battle.

I think when we "go off" strict low carbbing the opposite of INDUCTION occurs, that is, we fill quickly our glycogen stores with a a huge assembly of glucose molecules (glycigen is the animal equivalent of STARCH) tied with a LOT of hydrating water. This is the 4 or 5 pounds that came off "overnight" during INDUCTION. Once it's in though, it's IN and then calorie counting at higher carbs will give you any fat loss you're willing to work for...HARD work
![]() !I am eating something like the ZONE mixture, not exactly the 40-30-30 mix, but rather more like a 45-30-25 over the long haul. But of course, for weight control it's the AMOUNT not the proportion. For my heart's sake, I would like a 50C-30P-20F, in a matrix of about 2400 calories (not now though, I'm currently taking my weight down with lower calories.) Maybe next week I'll tabulate EVERYTHING...now THAT'S an odious task but good to do once in a blue moon...better yet, every SECOND blue moon. ![]()

zip - Thanks so much for your input. I have stuck this thing out and have finally dropped the extra water weight gain. Now, I think I'm on my way to better life of Maintenance. Watching them calories will always be a battle but I'm so glad to have whole grains and fruits in my life again. I was so afraid of them before.
Jewels - Hope things are going better for you. |

JG, I am doing real well the past few days. I haven't been on the scale and won't until next Tuesday but am back eating on plan again and makes me feel good. I haven't been counting but after doing LC for so long, we just know what food we can and cannot eat, right? No processed junk!! The real problem for me will be when I get back to goal or 117/118 is what I'm shooting for. I really feel with my new attitude adjustment, I will make it but my problem has always been staying there. This is the bb I really need to stick with for help and support.
Thanks for asking. Zip, excellent advice and insight.. ![]() |
