MVM's happy Thursday May 19

Happy thoughts gang.
Let's all try to be serene and happy today. Give it a go, OK?

Had the most tender and tasty Rib eye steak last night and got the darn thing at Wally World. Angus beef is pretty damned good

Since laughter is good for the soul, here is another one.

The Joys of Marriage

You have two choices in life: You can stay single and
be miserable, or get married and wish you were dead.

At a cocktail party, one woman said to another,
"Aren't you wearing your wedding ring on the wrong
finger?" "Yes, I am. I married the wrong man."

A lady inserted an ad in the classifieds: "Husband
Wanted" Next day she received a hundred letters. They
all said the same thing: "You can have mine."

When a woman steals your husband, there is no better
revenge than to let her keep him.

A woman is incomplete until she is married. Then she
is finished.

A little boy asked his father, "Daddy, how much does
it cost to get married?" Father replied, "I don't
know, son, I'm still paying."

A young son asked, "Is it true, Dad, that in some
parts of Africa a man doesn't know his wife until he
marries her?" Dad replied, "That happens in every
country, son."

Then there was a woman who said, "I never knew what
real happiness was until I got married, and by then,
it was too late."

Marriage is the triumph of imagination over
intelligence.

If you want your spouse to listen and pay strict
attention to every word you say -- talk in your sleep.

Just think, if it wasn't for marriage, men would go
through life thinking they had no faults at all.

First guy says, "My wife's an angel!" Second guy
remarks, "You're lucky. Mine's still alive."

A Woman's Prayer:

Dear Lord, I pray for Wisdom, to understand a man , to
love and to forgive him, and for Patience, for his
moods. Because, Lord, if I pray for Strength, I'll
just beat him to death.

Good morning Linda, and all my fellow maintainers.

I liked your pile of "funnyware." My guess is you had a "discussion" with Gerard recently?
Amazing the comparison in our weather. Do you know we are CONSISTENTLY 10 degrees warmer than you this whole Spring? I HOPE that spread doesn't continue through mid Summer or we'll catch FIRE.

Tonight theater (ALL WEAR BOWLERS) with a Bob and a friend- I opted for dinner at home because I have calorie control. I may skip the gym this afternoon because I am running an energy deficit and should really charge the batteries lest I run out of juice completely.
Damn weight isn't cooperating and actually went back up 2# (of my precious lost #4.) I KNOW the primary reason is this damn constipation that is getting severe in spite of daily psyllium and lots of liquid and a high fiber diet (beans every day). I feel as if I am inflating a balloon far beyond the bursting point. I HATE to take a laxative and do only in a dire emergency...like once every three years, but I'll do an enema if this persists. I've got about 5 days of bloated wet psyllium in there and it must be 2 cubic feet by now.
Yesterday was a good 1838 calories but I can't get my reward til I empty the BIN!
For me, constipation is the LEAST favorable aspect of weight loss.

Aticle in the Morning Call...Allentown, Bethlehem, PA (and Lehigh Valley) paper: Inflation at the highest level on record...shhh, the administration doesn't want you to know this....just don't buy ONIONS or FISH, or go to the DENTIST!

Bike tire went BOOM, so first order of business is to toddy over to TARGET in the "back yard."

Have a nice day everyone ; our weather continues PERFECT! (week after week!)

Linda,
DON'T drive to the top of Mt. Evans, CO...the highest driveable road in the U.S. at 14,265 feet. It is the CLEANEST air you ever breathed but there isn't MUCH of it.
We got out of the car and I did a teeny 100 yard slow jog to stretch my legs after being cooped in the car...and immediately tossed my breakfast amidst much gasping!
You won't even notice the piddling altitude of the Grand Canyon. If it bothers you, climb to the bottom, it's lower.
My friends wanted to do the donkey ride down but I thought I would forgo the "pleasure"...with my luck, I'd get a suicidal donkey.

YOI:
Calorie count for 3 lousy prunes (40grams) is a whopping 110...it's HARD to stop at 3, they are so delicious...but I did. (For medicinal purposes only!)

A quote from the current New Yorker (Anthony Lane's review of "Star Wars: Episode III):
Quote:
"The general opinion of 'Revenge of the Sith; seems to be that it marks a distinct improvement on the last two episodes...True, but only in the same way that dying from natural causes is preferable to crucifixion."

Good a.m. ladies n gent Will try to get happy today. So far not starting off good. I'm at work; coworker is a real PITA. She's "like 20 and know's like everything????" Sure wish I had her guzinta's uhu uhu. Well I do know that 20 guzinta 100 5 times uhu uhu. Du ya think it'll do uhu uhu? Du ya? Ahhhh Daaa

Honestly, I feel like clobbering her with my 10 gallon water jug.

ok, ok, her imaturity is driving me to drink! (my water)

Yesterday, got me thinking about my girls. My eldest dd who just turned 20 is dealing with a newly diagnosed Bi-Polar disorder. Poor judgement is a symptom of this S! I feel so helpless & depression is settling in. Went for dinner with longtime friend who is also a Social Worker, who tells me this is the most critical time for my dd. As 80% go off their meds. The more episodes of her mania will increase her chances of never having a normal life. So far she's only had "1" and it was STUNNING to say the least. I have so many "what if's or If only's" going on in my head. I hate that I have no control over impressing upon her common sense! She has moved out of her "RENT FREE" father's place (my x); she has applied for student welfare/loans; is driving around with no insurance (min. fine $5,000); she has missed doses of her meds??? And all I can do is WATCH??? She graduated high school in the honor society, top of her class. Was one of three in the entire school to be nominated for this prestigious award. Was active on Student Council, plays the clarinet like an angel??? I can offer her sooooooo much, but she doesn't want my life. I realize life is continually dealing with S! as I do understand it happens throughout. I just really really don't want to go to any of my children's funurals. That's always my wish, when wishing on stars. Don't think I could manage that one. Well, her meds are "kinda" starting to work. She has not quit University...Yet <fingers crossed> This is her first week back since her Acute Mania and hospitalization in January and February. She seems to be getting encouraged with classes starting and I think I see a glimmer. Oh God, let it be a glimmer...
It's just that I'm so scared. I need to STOP!

ANYHOO ON A GOOD NOTE. I'M 5 DAYS WITHOUT MY ADAVAN OR PROCHLORPERAZINE!!!!! I'm as dizzy as H E double hockey sticks, but sleeping through the night, which excites me!!!

Roger good luck with your studies, don't concentrate too hard

P.S. we were considering seeing the Grand Canyon before I die (hopefully a LONG way away), but I checked out the altitude and decided it's honestly something I'll have to live without ever seeing except in pictures. I just don't think I could enjoy it's magnificence with my love of O2 in short supply.

OK, "think a happy thought" "think a happy thought" "think a happy thought"

Morning,

Linda, I laughed so hard at those jokes...maybe cause most of them hit home! Good way to wake up here.
So sorry but the Mariner's FINALLY beat the damn Yanks. One out of six games isn't bad huh? Geez, we are bad this year AGAIN!!!!

Roger, yep, we're an oldies group here when talk goes to the bowels! Feel sorry for ya though as this has been a life long problem. Eat more vegi's is my solution and flaxmeal.

Liz, I really am not the person to advise you on your DD. It has taken me 40 years to learn how to deal with mine and that is certainly not perfected. Don't know if you believe in God but here is my advice.
LET GO, LET GOD!!! You cannot control her or her actions so pull back. She's 20 yo and needs to grow up. These are her problems and you cannot do much about them. She has to make her own mistakes for her to learn. I think it's called "Tough Love!" Parenting isn't what they make it out to be, is it? It sucks sometime!! For your own sanity, take care of yourself first! I keep telling myself that it's my DD problems and no matter how upset I get, I can't do anything about her. Oh BTW she is getting married again in Sept. 3rd times a charm they say! Humph

Sun is out for now so will enjoy every ray of it. Hi to rest of you and hope your day will be sunny too.

Julie, dd's gonna do it AGAIN??? You would think she would learn from the first two flops? AWWWW, I hear ya. Step back, breathe, do your yoga and re-focus. ME TOO!

DH & I are going away for our belated 10th anniversary. It was May 6th, but the only time he can get away is June 15th. I sure wish I drank! Somehow, I NEED ME TIME! We r thinking Chicago, for the deep dish pizza. I've always wanted to have my own official taste test-Chicago vs New York style pizza. Foget about it! (heavy Italian accent) As the mafia boys would say when it comes to counting carbs for that weekend.

OR

Las Vegas! Ya baby! (Austin Powers accent) I love Treasure Island. It was next to the Venetian, my view was spectacular and the Shops at the Forum? OMG They r awesome. The Gondola rides, the Eifel Tower (mini me), the Belaggio water ballet...They also have a Cheesecake Factory restaurant there. Being Canadian we miss all the good stuff, but they offer a low carb cheesecake. Only ever drouled on the menu, never got to try it.

Sooooo, that's my happy thought. Anyone like one destination over the other? I'm leaning towards Chicago, as we live right across from Detroit & we could drive and stop at all the awesome outlet malls along the way....But Vegas sounds so delicious too. Oya, Any thoughts?

Liz

P.S. Been to Vegas and LOVE IT! Never been to Chicago, but would like to see all it has to offer; the shows; the shopping; Oprah? So Carb weekend Vs Low Carb weekend?

Hi Y'all

Montana, Thanks for the Funnies! LOL, as Julie says, some hit close to home

Yesterday was the 25th Anniv of our Mt.'s BIG BLOW. Brought back lots of memories. Happy to see much of the lands and critters making such a dramatic comeback...Mother Nature at her best.

Geez, ZIP.. do whatever it takes to Discharge/dislodge that load! You must feel about 8 mo. preggers...at least that psyllium isn't kicking!
We have an Ornamental Plum with edible fruit, every summer I get a good plumbing overhaul from them.

Julie, good advice to Liz. Hope the third time IS the charm.

Liz, easier said than done, (cutting off the worry) but ya can't lead you older DD on a leash...take care of YOU first, cause ya still got that 7 yr old to focus on as priority.
Re vacation...flip a coin if necessary...but GO!

BTW, it would be immature to clobber that idiot with your water jug...be ladylike and pour it slowly over her head

Hey to all

more later

Shawnee

Linda, Love the jokes -- are you sure you're not married to my DH?

Liz, leave the situation develop as is.........you can't force many times nor influence. My sister waited for years for her DD to "see the light" and reguarly take meds. Now she's very successful. You can only just be there with an ear!

I like the "dump" on the head , how about a squirt gun?

Zip, you have calorie control? THAT"S GREAT, so then why can't you go to dinner? Have you tried: flaxmeal, rotten meat, spoiled eggs, hot salsa, green chile, or lots and lots of water? Licorce?

Linda, don't go and get paranoid about altitude - the canyon is not that high!! The donkey ride is good though. What you have to do is get accustomed to the elevation over a period of days. Start slowly and work your way up to 10,000 feet!! Stop in places that are higher in elevation and then when you get to the canyon, you are fine. You might need extra ox. because my mom does when she comes to visit.

Chicago-Las Vegas Chicago-Las Vegas

How about Denver? Salt Lake City? Seattle? Minneapolis and visit the Mall of America!! If you are looking for shopping, that's the place to go. Also, nightlife - just let me know because some places might remember me dancing on the tables. and.......if you can't drive home, lightrail is invaluable!

Maybe I should get to work!!

Liz, DD is getting married at the Venetian in Vegas and we are staying across the street at Treasure Island. Isn't that funny you mentioned those two places. Yep, the Venetian has the gondola rides you can get married on and yep, DD is going to do it there. Didn't know Vegas had a Cheesecake Factory. We have one in Seattle but I've never been there. hmmm maybe I can talk Chuck into taking me and the girls there. Doubt Nick will be able to go since one of his rules of drug court is not going in a casino but we'll see. He can always ask the judge. We'll have the 15 and 8 yo in our room. No s%x for us on this trip.

Shawnee, so much on the TV about Mt. St. Helens yesterday. So powerful and hope that never happens again. But the regrowth is amazing isn't it?
So what are you up to today?

Barb, are you posting from work? Good for you sweetie!!! Break up the day with some serious talk here!

Hey again...

Julie, what am I doing today? LOL, obviously spending a lot of time on the puter. When do you start Yoga?
Whaddaya mean, "No s%x for us on this trip." Girl, where's there's the will, there's a way!

Hey, on a more cold, calculating, clinical note: Our adult kids are gonna have
s%x, so I'd prefer them to be married, thereby cutting down on the number of exposures to all the ickky-awful diseases, that having multiple partners can create. (see, there is a positive side to another marriage)

Zip, forgot to mention ..this was a brilliant description:because I am running an energy deficit and should really charge the batteries lest I run out of juice completely
(have you been peeking in my window???) I sooo relate: My alternator light is blinking red.
Have fun tonight; hopefully LESS FULL too.

Barb, squirt guns are good...get her from a distance
Our busy Ginny and her DH took the mule trip to the bottom of the Canyon...ON her Honeymoon!

Zip, those mules are trained for up to three years before they are allowed to place a hoof on that downward descent..to rule out the suicidal ones...ya missed a great adventure

Liz, GOOD for you, having some decent sleeping nights.
I for one am thankful to see you have a super sense of humor; helps so much to combat the dizzies, etc..huh?

Ya, I'm taking ANOTHER break! This conversation is so much more uplifting than what I have going on here.

Ginny took a mule trip on her honeymoon? That's a woman my DH would have wanted to marry!!

Just got a delivery from the main office about health insurance going up, AGAIN!!
At this rate my dear loved ones might have to cremate me in the burning barrel and throw my ashes over the HMO bldg. If I need surgery, my DH has several staple guns also! If they allowed "homegrown plants in the field" I could do my own meds also.

Later,

Barb

Hi everyone,
Hey If you can't have sects on vacation, why bother going!

Anyway STOUFFER'S BIG LASAGNA (780 calories) for dinner...I got lazy and the freezer is full. Then we will head off to the theater, with me LIGHT AS A FEATHER THREE feathers to be precise...if you get my drift! Now I don't have to eat the spoiled meat...yaaay!

Shawnee,
An adventure WELL missed. My mangled body speaks it's last: "Whadda yah mean trained for 3 HOURS, I thought it was 3 YEARS?"
"No sir," came the last words I'd have heard heard..."we said UP TO three years!"

Shudder.........I hate Las Vegas and Atlantic City worse than rat poison. Either of the cities would have worked better than the spoiled meat. Oh well, that''s what makes a horse race.

Have a nice evening everyone.

Hey Roger congrats on the feather loss So no Vegas? Did you have a bad experience? I was on the 37th floor of TI and had an amazing view of the strip. It felt so surreal. What about Chicago? Did I say Atlantic City? Sorry, I meant Chicago. Atlantic City was very sad. Alot of down & out people living on the boardwalk. It just felt so sad and lonely. But in Chicago I was thinking maybe some live theatre; shopping and of course they call it "stuffed pizza" as opposed to deep dish chicago... Mmmmmm and Oprah if I could get tickets.

No Carbonara? One of my favorites, but too many carbs n cals. Do you have a low carb or calorie recipe? My tummy was grumbling thinking about that dish. I ended up making Sweet TLC's Chimichanga's on the recipe board. It was EXCELLENT and 7 carbs. Now that was nice. It called for low carb tortillas which I've never had until tonight. I just honestly can't trust that they were low carb. The ingredients said whole wheat bleached flour???? as the first ingredient

My goodness, aren't we all full of it today, well everyone except Roger. Glad you got rid of that "full load". Did you ever use mineral oil? Now that stuff works great sometimes.

Small discussion with a 2 x 4

Altitude is a killer. I've never been at 14,000 ft. but 9,000 ft on the Beartooth Highway brought me to my knees.

Julie, As Shawnee said, where there is a will there is a way. You can do it

LMAO, we "damn Yanks" are just letting your poor Mariners win this time. hehehe

Liz, hell there are so many other lovely places in this country, why on earth would you bother with Las Vegas? You could visit NYC or the North West where anyplace is wonderful!! Guess if you like crowds and lots of excitement, Las Vegas or Chicago are OK, but not my cup of tea.

My dd NEEDS some heavy duty meds. We think she has ADD or something as well as severe depression and anxiety. Can't do a thing about it myself because she is 40 years old. I just need to be here to pick up the pieces.

Loretta, you asked what we would do with the lawn tractor. Just mow all this darn lawn for now and maybe attach a plow or snow blower for the winter.

Did you get to go fishing and catch anything?

Barb. I guess all of us can relate to those jokes, eh? We can only imagine what they would say about us.

Hell, we live at an altitude of about 900 ft and going up that high is going to be a challenge..Going to ask my Doc about supplemental O2 when I see him if we decide to go.

Shawnee, meant to mention that bear you had running around out there. We had the same thing day before yesterday in downtown Binghamton. Poor critter should have been left alone to find his way home but the idiots shot him with a tranquilizer gun, took him to a vet for a check up and relocated him to some state land NEAR US All we need is more bears roaming up our driveway. LOL.

Hope you are feeling better and can get that thyroid regulated very soon. WE are all wishing you the best.

Waving to Ginny.

You too Susan. Update us when you can on your DH and you. (((hugs)))

Jackie, where the hell are you girl?
