Monday for the YOUNGSTERS - 5/16

I KNOW the day and the year!!

OK - for your recipe Shawnee, what is this flour? Is this something I have to go into the field and find and then grind three times? Looks good because I LOVE hot !!

Speaking of hot - it's warming up here. In the mid-80's yesterday and got a lot of sun.

Linda, I've been looking and looking for those 7 # and I thought I found them in your little toes but then I believe it's in the hands!! I LOVE Civil War history - is that you and Chamberlain?

Well, Kiddos, drink a lot of water today to iradicate the damages of the weekend.

Hi Barb and all the other kids.

Thanks for the recipe Shawnee. It sounds like an Indian pancake. I wonder what causes any rising...I didn't see any leavening agents. Anyhoo, sounds sort of like the Chinese Scallion Pancake but made with low glycemic high protein flour. I even have most of the ingredients for that NANKEEM CHILLA.

Barb, no grinding necessary, it's flour, but WHERE in CO you'll find an Indian (Ghandi, not Cochise) grocery is anyone's guess? I can't imagine TOO many Indians schussing down Aspen's slopes!

A good Atkins breakfast this morning (ham and eggs and coffee...no toast.) AND I told Bob to take the remains of that Pineapple Pie that was so delicious last night TO WORK for his fat HBO friends. The slice threw my calorie count way over the top. I'll be better today...I'll make some Diet Jello!

A fab deal last week on Coke at the A&P...8- 2Liter bottle for $6 with a $6 rebate...so that's 16 liters of soda (anything in the Coke family) for free. I conjecture that they are emptying the warehouses to make way for the smaller 1.5 Liter bottles that are popping up in all the soda-lines. I guess that mean a 25% price hike for soda??? Yep, inflation is under control...in Alan Greenspan's DREAMS!

Bob made an early dawn hit in the central garden and clipped us a BIG bunch of lilacs<shhh!>...slowly but surely the apartment is being perfumed deliciously...but I keep looking for THE BODY! (dona eis Requiem!)

Hey guys, to repeat...both Norton Internet Security 2005 (antivirus and firewall) and the same package from McCaffee are available for FREE with rebates to anyone who has ever owned any version of Norton ANYTHING (including the free trial with a new computer)...yep even McCaffee will honor the Norton! Beats paying $30 a year to get 12 months of continued updates. AND if you ever need to reload, you have a new version and don't have to spend an hour updating a Norton 1999!
I got mine and I'll install it in July when my old subcription runs out...I haven't paid a cent in 4 years, and the Norton Internet Security is GOOD with auto-updates the INSTANT they find a new seroius virus, weekly otherwise!

Much cooler today (from 80 to 60)...drat, the site eliminated the degree sign coding also: &176; ° ...nut's what will I do for an UMLAUT :!

Oh, here's Home Sweet Home (I'm in the ADAMS!)...<cozy isn't it?>:
http://www.newportnj.com/pdf/3d_newport.jpg
Shop-Rite, B.J.'s and Bed Bath and Beyond are off the map on the left. Thing called "Shopping Plaza" has the A&P, PierONE, and Linens and things (and Enterprise rental, dry cleaners etc.). Newport Center Mall has about 100 stores with the anchors being J.C Penny's, Sears, and Macy's. Note that Light Rail track (beautiful trolley/train that runs up and down the County) and the orange PATH station (fast train into Manhattan under the river!) It really IS one-stop living!

Hi folks

Zip thanks for that layout of your town. Why on earth would you want to move to the country? You have everything so close at hand with terrific scenery to boot. I really would prefer city living. Even in our local small town a person could walk to the library, bank some grocery stores. You have EVERYTHING so close at hand, even transportation. Thanks for the layout. Nifty.
Now what am I going to do when my subscription to Nortons runs out in Jan (tax time offers) instead of July? What is the way around that?

Thanks for that recipe Shawnee, just don't think we have any Indians here in this part of Ky. If we do, they don't have any stores with Indian products that I have seen. We might have some American Indians. We are culturally deprived here. Just all white americans mostly.

Going to do some hedge trimming today. Sure hope I don't cut that $#@!^ electric cord again.

Later folks

Oh Lord,
has anyone ever died of Lilac poisoning. I walked to the A&P and when I got back I was hit by lilac-gas that was enough to knock me over. Seriously, it's giving me a headache and a raspy throat so I opened the windows. I'd throw them out but Bob (with much LESS of a sense of smell) thinks they are great, and they ARE lovely, it would be cruel to begrudge him...well the odor won't follow me to the gym. Maybe the open windows and the airflow will dispel the stuff.

Loretta...my mother cut the cord too...hedge trimmer was all mended with ADHESIVE tape!!!!!:
Anyhoo, why not buy the Norton Internet Security now, get the two rebates and sit on it til late December...or even January, and then load it. I have reformatted and installed a year or more after the Norton date...in fact I'm running 2003 right now!
Then you'll have all of next year free.

Hi Gang!

Bin fer bloodwork this morning, a whole bunch a stuff, including the ole lipids. Did the 12 hour fast by sleeping in a bit this morning. Feel great!
Looking forward to my results.

Long post warning just to bring you up to date on my health goings on:-

I stopped the Prometrium on Friday, so seeing how I go on. I had an in office biopsy last Monday at the Gyne to see if my U. lining has responed. My body sure has! Hope the weight will drop off now I'm off it.

Oncologist wants me to start the Tamoxifen when I finish with the Prometrium. He also suggested I consider removal of my ovaries.

Gyne suggested a total hysterectomy to decrease my chances of uterine Ca, ovarian Ca plus gets rid of the Estrogen production for the breast ca prevention, seeing that I am precancerous at the moment in situ.

I am totally all for Prevention but this seems a bit strong to me. I am listening to them and then, I'll get a second opinion, and yours too.

I can't see me going for all that surgery with DH going for his spinal sx next week and recovery can be up to 10 weeks. After hysterectomy no lifting for 8 weeks right? I have to help him get dressed a little now so not sure what to expect after the surgery maybe more for a couple of weeks.

PROS: If no estrogen no risk of breast ca, uterine, or ovarian...which is a good thing, as Martha would say!

CONS: BUT...reduced estrogen, no protection for Heart Disease the #1 killer of women, no protection for Osteoporosis, and no buffer to help me get thru the Sudden Onset Menopause that the surgery will throw me into!

I will NOT be allowed any HRT because of the Breast Ca dx. Sheesh what a tangled mess...where to start.

Will be back on a lighter note!

Just wanted to explain what's been going on this week or so.

Susun,
I must be out of the loop because the only thing I am up on is your breast microcalcifications that you are tending with watchful sureillance? What's wrong "down there?" (Don't worry, you can tell me...I promise not to get titillated!)
If all that surgery is JUST to prevent estrogen from influencing the microcalcification, that would be a bit on the bonkers side (a medical expression! )

Isn't Prometrium just pricey prgesterone that they are recommending for all women on HRT? Fill me in!
(I KNOW it doesn't work on the prostate!)

Hi everybody, been running around all day. Got some pictures developed at wally world from my E card for only $.19 each (4 x 6 size).

Gerard has decided to buy a new lawn tractor, a John Deer, and will have them deliver it. It's a PITA to be without our truck and the thing won't fit in the Rav4. Our old lawn/snow blower tractor is about 30 years old and needs a part but he thought it time to splurge on a new one.

Dug out my old blood work from 1998 and last years to compare.
HGB was 17.3 and HCT 49.6. Hematologist said they don't consider "bleeding" one until the HCT reaches 55.

After cutting down on smoking for those few years my HGB was 16.2 and the HCT 47.2.New blood work next month, so we shall see. I don't think it ever will be completely normal because of the damage from all those years of smoking.

Barb, believe me, the 7 lbs is there. I find myself leaving the button on my jeans undone most of the time.Darn it all On the plus side, two people told me yesterday that my face looks better a little fuller. LOL

Roger, take a Clariton and see if that helps. The raspy throat and headache sounds like an allergy to me.

LOVE the lay out of your area. As Loretta said, you do have EVERYTHING close at hand. So darn convenient... but that's why you pay the HUGE rent.
If I didn't like the country so much, I would consider a move to a big city. It would be nice to have almost everything at one's fingertips.

Shawnee, That recipe sounds pretty darn good. I may look for some of that flour in this area but don't know if I can find it. We do have Indian restaurants but I haven't seen an Indian grocery store.

Loretta, don't feel bad. I think many of us have cut the cord on those outdoor electric appliances. Raising hand here

Oh dear Susan, you have some huge decisions to make. I don't envy you at all.
I had a hysterectomy years ago but before the new laproscopic procedures that they use around here now almost exclusively. There is virtually almost no recovery time involved with it. My friend had it and was back to work as an RN in 4 days. Ask your GYN if he does it or have him send you to one who does.
here is some info.http://www.gynsecondopinion.com/hysterectomy.htm

Ginny, can't wait to talk to you again either. Love your soft southern drawl. We need to talk about "flavors". LOL. My mom loves the lemon grass and my DD loves most of them.

Where is our Jackie?

Liz, check in again will ya?

More later.

Back again

Nice afternoon here. I worked on the cakes for a couple hours, then we went for a drive on the Columbia (unwind time for me) Saw two eagles soaring, and lots of Pups in a park...Life is good.

Geez, Y'all...can't tell ya a thing bout that flour, Zip will have to be the Master Experimentor on it. As I read thru that Recipe, I was "seeing" something similar to spicyTortillas as the finished product. Tho its supposed to naturally thicken, I'd think if ya want "puff-rise"...it woiuld have to be done similar to the almond Pound cake thing, achieved with eggs and BP and BSoda..OR add in maybe 1/4-1/2 Cup WW flour or Gluten...thereby increasing the carbs a lot with the WW, not so much with the Gluten...plus the BP and BS.

Anyhoo, I was thinking that recipe could be baked on Parchment, cut into squares, and it would make tasty "crackers"...the spices could be whatever ya like.

Montana, would love to see your pics Several of my neighbors have new John Deeres, I'm so envious...mine is about 15 years old, a Craftsman...rides like a freight wagon.

Re-test of CBC shows HCT 48.9, HGB 16.6
More Lab tests in early AM...I'm doing the 12 hr fast right now, will try to hit the Lab around 7, followed immediately by the Coffee Machine.

I'm doing the top button thing too, damn its irritating Grrr! (I hate my lazy-azzed thyroid more every day) LOL, one's face usually does look better with a tad of plump, just before the hint of double chin starts!

SuSUN, no advice from me, other than don't be bashful about asking (demanding) answers and alternative possibilities.

WOW, Zip...you're OD'd on Lilac scent! I feel that way around scented candles and perfume counters. Hope ya decide to play with that Flour, have fun with it.

BRAVO, Barb..."I KNOW the day and the year!!"...so you can give your Days of the Week bloomers to Ginny and Zip.

Loretta, how did the trimming go? LOL, yeah, there's gotta be some mixed breed Cherokee lurkin' in your area. If not, I'll send Cherokee Charlie to ya!

Hey to Ginny, Julie, Jacki, Liz, and Lurkers

Shawnee
