Vintage Maintainers Thursday Blab
Good morning everyone,
A horrible day yesterday...deep, DEEP depression. Bob DRAGGED me to the theater last night, God knows how, and we saw Act One of LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, a new musical at Lincoln Center <you might remember the movie in the '60's with Olivia de Havilland and Yvette Mimiueux.> Huge Lincon Center theater (The Vivien Beaumont Theater) in the round is NOT suited for a show like this which would play better in a more intimate house...music was sort of atonal, not a plus with much annoying echoing. However,I felt better for having gone out and the valium has me more myself today. I cound't bear food and only had a can of soup and some oatmeal...but did the SCALE COOPERATE...NO! <maybe tomorrow> We have vowed to eat 2 (or 3) days a week like that from now on...EVENTUALLY it will sink in that I cannot eat at 62 like I did at 30!Barb, MAINE eh, Even I have never been there (several skiing trips to NH and VT though.) We MIGHT make it this Summer if we can get Bob's cousin's house on Plum Island (off Northern Massacusetts.) People from Maine talk to NOBODY...no one can understand them. Shawnee, Good going getting your ENDO ducks in a row. I assume you mean endocrinologist rather than ENDOdontist <unless they've devised a new method of pulling hives out through a ROOT CANAL <You can see what gutter MY brain is lying in! >I STILL think it's a generalized allergic reaction to SOMETHING heretofore undiscovered. Any LATEX typically near the welts...always a GOOD suspect! If they can pop up ANYWHERE, then I'm going with food allergy, tested or not. Shudder, there is THE RICE DIET, that is almost SURE to find if a food is the culprit, but alas, the particular FOOD isn't so easy to find. Diet is easy: Breakfast...steamed rice, all you can eat. Lunch.......steamed rice, all you can eat Dinner.......steamed rice, ALL YOU CAN BEAR! Makes food shopping easy...your shopping list says: 20 pounds of RICE! Gee, I guess my purchase of 500 shares of GM in April made sense; it's NICE to do SOMETHING right! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Mornin' all,
We're supposed to be warming up soon, rumor has it 80's will be showing their face in the next few days!!! Yeehaaaa! Been recuperating from the last couple busy weekends and catching up on stuff here these last few days (like sleep!). DH let me sleep in yesterday until I woke at 11. I haven't done that in a LONG time. Sure felt like a short day after doing that. To all with dr. appts, hope the answers are there--and good ones! To everyone else, enjoy the day ![]() L8r, |

Hi to all
![]() These are my babies. They are going to get let loose soon and put into the garden. They are really doing well for an amature seed grower. Zip sad but true: EVENTUALLY it will sink in that I cannot eat at 62 like I did at 30! It just is not the same with slower metabolisms. Glad Bob got you out and away from that depression. You are lucky to have someone so sensitive to your needs. Shawnee hope you get some answers for those welts. They are the most awful welts I have seen in my nursing career of 30 plus years. Hope you get some relief and answers. Barb LOL on the Maine speech. I know for sure when I came here to Ky I did not want to open my mouth in the grocery store, they had me pegged pronto. You will enjoy that visit with your DD. Ginny sleeping until 11 AM. You must have been in need of a lot of rest. You youngster too. We can only push our bodies so far. Hope to get out in the yard again but DH is itching to go fishing. I need to be making some cabbage noodles too. Oh well

Good afternoon Ginny, Zip and Loretta! Waving to the rest!
Why the depression Zip? Weather or stimulus reaction to events, or news, or just life? Think of it as driving down into a ditch and in order to get out, you have to put more gas on that pedal! I've had the same problem with depression until I got some meds into my system and a good counselor. I also saw my dad going this way and how awful it was for us. I didn't want to be the same way. Sometimes I think I ate better at 30 than 61. Exercise does make or break that metabolism (the word according to Barb). You DO exercise a lot! Therefore, you should be able to eat what you want. Ginny, hope you are feeling up to par with that extra sleep. Loretta, planting must be a passion with you. I couldn't get the picture but sounds as if you are starting with seed. In KY, ANYTHING grows!! Shawnee, do you need to change meds? How long hypo -- it just sounds as if you are going to an endo rather than GP. Running along...... Barb

Hi Y'all
Another day of cool and possible T-Boomers here. Loretta, I got the dreaded Red "X"...can't see your pretty babies, even by using the Properties...Boo hoo, *snivel* So, was it fishing, gardening, or cooking that took priority? How's your DH doing? Ginny, even the young run out of steam, you've been super-busy...Hope you're catching up on your rest now. How's the Bub doing? Barb, exercise sure does make a difference...helps get the weight off, plus makes a person be thinner and stronger than a non-exercising one. ..and increases metab too. As I watch other people eat, I can't believe the sheer quantity of food they consume!...I'd get tired, just carrying around that overstuffed stomach! ![]() Aw Zip...do ya know what brought on the depression? Glad Bob was able to get ya going. Just getting outside helps lift mine. The med I take for the hives is an anti-depressant, insomnia thing. Latex was the first suspect back in '97, when the first outbreaks occurred..Nope, I use the gloves bout every day for one task or another, and no problems with that. (never a hand outbreak) The outbreaks are usually localized in sweaty body areas..trunk, hips, thighs, buttocks, inner elbows...but have had them from scalp to soles of feet. I'm still persuing my theroy that the hives are a result of my screwed immune system, from the out of whack thyroid and all the other "body parts" it regulates. Went to the hospital Lab at 7 AM today..fasting (NO coffee since last night, 7 Pm<<GRR)..only to wait and wait, THEN be told that NO lab orders had been rec'd...(supposedly faxed from 50 ft. away, from doc's office, Tuesday night, most of our docs now have offices in hospital)...SO I asked, "who do I ***** to?? " Receptionist replied "Your doctor" .. And of course his office was still closed, NO volunteers had showed up yet..So I went to the only manned station there, the Emergency ...got a bored gal to call my doc's Service, then that was relayed to someone in his closed office..She couldn't find the Orders..Grrr...finally, they were located, faxed to Emergency where I sat and stewed...took the orders back to the Lab...6 VIALS OF BLOOD later, I was FREE and bee-lined to a coffee machine. The Doc's "plan" is to get the Test results and I'll take them to an Endo...I personally thought the Endo should do the test-ordering... Later, I thought I'd better check on how the Endo referral was progressing...good thing I called, apparently the first choice didn't take new patients...so I told them to look in my chart, I'd left a list of preferred ones with my doc...couldn't find them, of course...GRRR...so I made her write down the names and numbers of 3 more...grrr.. Then I picked up my new script for Actonel...YIKES, a months supply is FOUR pills (1 weekly)...and with good Ins. co-pay, it cost me $40 !!!! I asked what the full price is : $99.99...... Guess I'll use these gold-plated pills up, then go back to OTC calcium...(bad thyroid leaches calcium from bones) Doubt that I can handle the side effects of Actonel anyway... So I sure understand Loretta's frustrations with the Dr trip last week. ![]() I'm ready to give the hospital a sign: We practice inner-office incompetency. Damn, people like me with brain fog shouldn't have to do the damn doc's office work too. Enough b*tchin' Zip, I know conditions facinate you..here's some light reading: http://www.worldallergy.org/professi...synopsis.shtml ShawneeHashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism are associated with Addison's disease, diabetes mellitus, hypogonadism, hypopara-thyroidism, and pernicious anemia. Such combinations are described as the polyglandular failure syndrome. Two forms of polyglandular autoimmunity have been recognized(47). In the Type I syndrome patients have hypoparathyroidism, muco-cutaneous candidiasis, Addison's disease, and occasionally hypothyroidism. Type II, more frequent, often includes familial associations of diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, hypoadrenalism, and occasionally gonadal or pituitary failure. In these syndromes, antibodies reacting with the affected end organs are characteristically present. Vitiligo, hives, and alopecia are associated with thyroiditis. There is also a clear association with primary and secondary Sjogren's syndrome(48). Some patients appear to start with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and progress with time to the picture of Riedel's thyroiditis including the frequently-associated retroperitoneal fibrosis And: http://www.allergyweb.com/chronicurticaria_md.asp And to keep you facinated, here's the tests i'm having, IF the Lab doesn't scew up: Full panel thyroid Follicle stimulating hormone Sed rate Blood count Comprehensive chem panel Ferritin

Shawnee Doc gave me samples of fossamax but my stomach could not tolerate it.
So today I stopped at the docs office this am to tell him about the Fossamax and he gave me a sample of Miacalcin which is a nasal spray. You use it daily, one squirt and alternate nostrils. Wonder if I'll remember my left to right? He asked how I was taking the Fossamax and it was correct even though I was brushing me teeth. I worried about that, but he said no that would not cause a problem. Wonder what it will cost?? My bp rx is $101.00 but insurance picks up most of it, so my co pay is about $30.00. Sorry to hear about that mix up and delay to the coffee cup. Sometimes when I go there fasting I get my coffee first (to go) and as soon as that blood is in the vial I can start sipping. Do you think I'm addicted. Sometimes it makes a person why they can't get things right. Next time ask for paper orders and have them in your hand. I emailed you the pic of the toms. Don't want you to miss them. |

Hi hunnies, I'm home.
The beach trip was so nice that we extended it a bit, thanks to my brother's generosity. Weather was nice, but not warm enough for swimming. The ocean temp was only in the high 50's. Spent some time in Beaufort wandering the historic district, very old cemetery and waterfront and just kicked back.Oh and we did watch the wild horses out on Carrot Island just off shore. Put my brother on a plane late this afternoon and now I'm going to catch up with some reading here then crash. Funny how little vacations can exhaust us. Roger, Gosh you poor guy, where did that depression come from? Feel better soon. Glad that Bob at least dragged you out of the house. It really does a body good to get out and move around. Ginny, Poor girl. You must have needed the sleep. When I worked the evening shift, I always slept in until 11. Never could come home from work and go to bed so I stayed up till 3 or 4 am. Please send some of that warmth up north. We were near freezing last night. Loretta, those babies are looking good. Damned meds are horribly over priced. Some of the people on my asthma bb are buying theirs from a place in India at a fraction of the cost and are quite pleased. We have a 20% co pay so it takes the edge off some of my high priced asthma meds. Hope you got to enjoy the day doing what ever you wanted to do. Shawnee, OMG I did a quick look see at the picture of your hives. Good Lord!!! I sincerely hope the new endo gets to the bottom of it. Gerard has had some nasty hives like that as well as angioedema but never did find the cause. He will go back to the allergist soon.Don't even get me started on the pure incompetence of medical office staff these days. Hi ya Barb, I see you are going to be finished with school pretty soon. Enjoy your freedom. Waving to Julie, Susan, Jackie and lurkers. Later, if I can stay awake. |
