MVM's for Thursday April 21

Morning gang.

Got a phone call from my cardiologist and got a bit of bad news. It seems that there is a small area of the heart that isn't getting the blood supply it should be getting.

He said that because of my vascular disease ( AAA ) and the fact that I don't present many symptoms, other than being SOB at times, that the risk of doing an angiogram to determine the need for a bypass is too high.
He said stenting would be done only to reduce symptoms. Thought it was also done to improve blood flow.
I'm to continue with a baby aspirin a day and no smoking.

LOL how's that for a morning wake up call? Gotta get my coffee and do some serious research. Probably look for a cardiac surgeon at the Cleveland clinic.

So sorry Linda,
Did he identify the artery that was compromised (RCA, LDA or Circumflex Artery?)
His answer about the stent showed how he earned HIS money: Of course a stent is used to hold open an angioplasty which is most certainly to restore proper blood flow. Nothing CURES CAD, certainly not bypassing the clog...if anything, OPENING the clog is more nearly curative.

If you DO decide on the angiogram, come to NYC and have MY guy do it...he'll bend over backwards to avoid the bypass in favor of the stent (and of course my doctor is probably the premiere STENTER in the City, that's how HE makes HIS money...LOL!) Isn't it amazing, YOU decide on the treatment and then pick the doctor that does it. If you went to a podiatrist, you'd get ORTHOTICS for heart disese!

Risk of angiogram death is 1% ...ALL NY doctors have their scores for percutaneous procedures on a state web site...FOR REAL. It's the ONLY state that tracks ANYTHING and Percutaneous Cardiography is one of the only procedures that is tracked but WOW, what a step in the right direction. (My doctor has NEVER killed anyone and he's one of the VERY few!)
I agree with your doctor though, DON'T risk an angiogram without symptoms- they are NOT fun! (watch for hearburn on exertion...THAT'S the illusive one!)

Zip's recommendation...unless you have SERIOUS gastric problems, make that an ADULT aspirin/day (325 mg.)...some studies have shown that the small one can miss in a LARGE minority. I take 2 (650 mg.) every morning. Beware interaction with other NSAIDS.

Watch for symptoms...maybe join Barb and me on some duffer runs (I got a mile in this morning...DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN SHOOT ME!)

Meeting Bob after work for dinner (basic Americana) and theater (a new David Mamet work.)

Ginny,
No, we never made it for a second visit to the orchid show. Bob DID ask one of the dames if she reduced prices on Saturday evening. He said she gave him an icy stare and said "We NEVER lower our prices." Gotta LOVE some people!

Julie,
Sounds like a delightful day in Seattle...I GOTTA see that city!

Loretta,
I am TRYING to cobble together a decent sized order but so far I can't make the free shipping amount. Geez, if ONLY they had a good price on CoQ10 or bulk psyllium, or even Protein powder...but alas that's BJ's, Target and Vitamin Shoppe in THAT order.

Everybody have a nice day...ours is cooler than yesterday's 88° but gorgeous but starting Saturday we're looking at 5 days of showers. (well it IS April, Bing!)

Hey gang,

Rain here for the next few days, and colder temps predicted for the weekend. Sounds like it will be indoor activity time.

Linda, to you re the report....I know you'll do your research and take the best route. Grab a big cup of coffee and see what you find out.

Zip, LOL on the reduced prices...I think I know that vendor! Some do reduce, but some think their plants are 'all that and a bowl of grits' and get a bit snooty. I really prefer to go to a greenhouse and lurk around, that way I know I'm picking through the best and not what they WANT to sell!

Hope everyone has a contented day.....

Hi to all

Our beautiful weather continues here. Tomatoe plants from seeds are doing quite well, but only 3 came up out of about 12. Might go out fishing with Dh here in a min or so. I don't enjoy it all that much but take my sun block and crochet along and wet my line. Gotta remember to take a bucket with me for letting that water out.

to Linda on that bit of news. Hope you find the best solution even if that means to do nothing and watch it. New like that might make you want to have a cigarette Don't go there.

Gone fishing

Loretta

Loretta,
Aren't you a bit LATE on the seedlings...I think now is the time to put the 6 inch plants out (but then you're stuck with tasteless Burpees)??? It's been a while since I've had any "dirt", so my timing might be WAY off. I had an old friend "down the shore"...that's how Jerseyites and Pennsylvanians reffer to the Jersey shore. She kept old heirlooms going and threw the seedlings into a cold frame in FEBRUARY and always had delicius OXHEARTS. SOmething about tomatoes and Jersey sand that love one another.

Linda, I've been thinking about you all day and I have your address but NO PHONE NUMBER...so make believe I called and asked how you are feeling. I've been through it and I KNOW how hard it can hit.

I/we are staying home today because 1/2 hour ago I developed a case of the TROTS from God knows where!...maybe RUNNING...RUNS from the RUNS? Nah, that's wishful thinking.

Linda. Not good news but thank God he seems to think it's not an emergency. If it was me, I'd run for a 2nd opinion. Anything that serious is worth it.I know you'll research it well and maybe take Zip's advice. He seem very knowledgable about it. I guess experience makes him so. 1% risk for the angiogram seems pretty small to me. You are in our thoughts and hope you find the right answer on what to do next.

Loretta, I too wonder about your tomato seedlings. I've always started them indoors and then gradually put them out to acclimate them and THEN plant them. But this is our weather here, you'rs may be warmer in the spring.

Roger, very good advice for Linda. Thanks for helping her. Now get over those trots. How awfull....

Hi Ginny, think of you everyday!!!! oh the smells............

back again for a quick check. Been enjoying the sun and getting this place ready for my brother's visit. Then took mom for a ride and out to lunch. Now it's time to kick back and spend some time on the computer doing more research.

Roger, I pick up my report tomorrow afternoon and will fax it to my Vascular surgeon along with the carotid scan. ( I'll try to remember to call you tomorrow sometime )

Been haunting the Cleveland Clinic site and will see what my vascular guy says about doing the angiogram and possible stent. Might just see your guy too.

My cardiologist does stents all the time but is concerned about doing one on a person with AAA. Will discuss more with him and his assistant tomorrow and find out more.. My head was not on straight this morning when he called so I didn't ask too many questions. Can't even THINK with out my coffee.

LMAO Runs from the run? I don't think so. You must have picked up a bug of some kind. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

Ginny, bummer on the rain and cruddy weather coming up. We are headed south next week so I hope it improves.

Loretta, enjoy that fishing trip and take that "chamber Pot" It looks funny to see someone's bare butt hanging over the side of a fishing boat. .

Julie, Never fear, I always get a second and even third opinion and am not against traveling half way across the country to do so.

Hope you gardeners are enjoying some nice weather. It's going to get into the 20's at night around here. UGH!!

Barb, we MUST educate ourselves on our health issues. That's one of the reasons I know about these things.

LOL I'll pass on the run. Bad knees and I HATE running.

Still watching "National Park" week on the travel channel. Boy it's great!
