Good morning Barbara,
Are all your roads clear and open yet.

I'm getting serious on sweets as of today. Neighbor brought over a huge bundt cake (belated birthday) soaked in rum and covered in crystallized sugar. I gave 3/4 to Bob to take to work for the starving masses at HBO! I just can't get the scale to move with cake and candy.

ISABELLE'S MEATLOAF was wonderful yesterday:
1 lb. ground turkey
2 slices old bread, diced
Celery stalk
Red pepper
medium onion (Dice and saute the three veg)
Minced ginger optional...or any spices you like! (Go easy on the spicing because the turkey is subtle.
4 ounces tomato something (catsup, crushed, puree, barbecue sauce, whatever you like...yesterday I used chipotle sauce for the first time: DELICIOUS)
1 egg
Smootz everything together, put in a greased medium loaf pan and bake at 350 for an hour. A piece o0f wax paper on the bottom makes for easier demolding but the you have to deal with getting the paper off the LOAF!
Sauce:
1 can of Cambell's GOLDEN Mushroom Soup (must use GOLDEN)
1/3 cup of milk or water...I use milk but ISABELLE who was always on a diet used water ...she's long dead but was always what looked to be a Size 2!

De-mold and slice in 1 inch slices and serve with a GENEROUS covering of sauce.(You'll be surprised how good such a simple sauce is...NOBODY will know what it is!)

I guess I SHOULD start working on the income taxes! <Sigh>

Hi

Glad to hear that the snow and ice are melting there Barb. Our yesterday's newspaper had a nice article about your storm.

Thanks Zip for that recipe for the turkey loaf. will try that next time.
I usually put 2 slices of regular bread in the bottom of my loaf pan to absorb any grease or whatever. That seems to work well. Was Isabelle a relative? We have some recipes like that, one called Aunt Irene's salad.

Got caught up yesterday on company stuff, now starting on the regular routine of stuff. Cloudy day and more rain on the way. Workers are here now and will quit when the rain comes.

Hey to Jackie and the rest of our gang. Where is that Julie?????

Hi Y'all

This Maintain Mt. seems to be suffering from empty nest syndrome....we may like to live like hermits, but still wanna check in here for a daily Fix.

I am enjoying the quiet time here, will have relatives/friends starting Thurs til ? Sunday?
Kaci and I will take a trip to Portland tomorrow...glad she has a day off in the middle of the week, and is such a good shopping partner. I need wedding cake assembly pieces, and our lil town doesn't carry much. Hopefully we'll hit some malls too, and lunch.
All this rain has given me cabin fever, and Bob needs a day of relief from me.

Zip, play soothing music while ya tackle the Taxes.

Loretta, hope all stays peaceful for ya.

Barb, how's the Hypothyroid leveling going for ya? Hope the meds are helping.

later
Shawnee

Well,

I'll post again so it looks like there are more of us.

Shawnee,
Wash your mouth (with rainwater) for suggesting the rain is anything but wonderful. Isn;t it much better than the dry Winter you had?

We are having a splate of GLORIOUS but now cooler weather.

I'm going to the orchid show tomorrow morning armed with my camera. But probably more interesting than any shots I get are these from last year's Rockefeller Center Show:
http://community.webshots.com/slides...216&key=verCsW

Oh, and I found that there's a $5 fee for the main display but there's STILL a teeny bit to see for free:
Quote:
While visitors may appreciate many of these firsts, they may not be enthusiastic about another: for the first time there will be a $5 admission fee, for those over the age of 13, to the rink exhibition space. (Visitors will continue to have free access to the orchid-vendors' areas in the concourse, where 50,000 to 75,000 orchids will be for sale.)
Do you think that's enough to see for FREE (But I'll spring for the $5)
Last year they got 175,000 people!

Loretta,
ISABELLE was a friend of Bob's when he was in the "rag" business (he managed several Ladies' Dress Lines.) Whole industry has gone from New York now.

Back again, to help build up the COUNT!

Nice lil Bauble in your Avatar, Zipster....gonna buy it with your Tax Refund ?
$5 is a cheap Admission for anything anymore. Are you thinking of adopting a sib for Phonecia? Please lots of pics, have a glorious time.

Hey, its un-American to be content with the weather.. ...I want rain at night, sun for daytime...is that asking too much???

DGDaughter #2 will be here shortly, after her shift is over...she's the one I'm making the cake for. She wants pink and burgandy roses on it; guess I can live with that.

Hi to SuSUN, Montana, Jacki, Julie...drop by and type a spell

Boy, this thread is really getting long!

Shawnee, I AM feeling better, more energy and all that!! It's been three almost four weeks on the thyroid meds. I don't get it checked for two months - 4 weeks!! I walked into work today with a spring in my step and everyone wanted to know what I was up to........

Here's a good one for you all..... Prom is a extracurricular activity ? If you are failing a subject you cannot attend any extracurr. activities for that week!! We even had parents call......and they cry!! We do have an early morning meeting to resolve the issue.

I saved that recipe for meatloaf -- haven't had gr. turkey for ages!

Good night Jacki,
Good night Julie,
Good night SusUN,
Good night Linda,
Good night Ginny,

Better check in to see what we are saying about you!!

Barb

Hey all,

Add me to the count for today! This morning the state greenhouse inspector was here to do a bug check. We have a clean bill of health for the 'chids and cacti. He's a friend of ours, so after business was chat time at the kitchen table. A nice visit. Work went well tonight, quiet night for me....hoping to have an easy week, but we'll see.

Shawnee, enjoy your shopping trip with Kaci! Sounds like the cake will be pretty with pink and burgundy. Which will she use for bridesmaid(s) dresses?

Barb, glad you're thawing out. Your storm made our paper too.

Loretta, how much do they lack getting the siding done? Are they wrapping the window facings too?

Zip, enjoy the show! You're gonna see some drop-dead gorgeous stuff, so put the credit card up before you go! Most of the shows we go to are pretty small, would love to see a show the size of y'all's, but that would require me going to a big city....NOT HAPPENIN'!!!

Linda, Julie, Susan hope y'all are having a good evening!

L8r,
