Monday, Monday, April 11 for the MVM group

OK it's another Monday and a work day for some of our gang.
So did everyone stay legal over the weekend and not gain weight? Hope so.

Took my mom for a ride to see a Buffalo and llama farm on Sunday and was really wanting a buffalo burger. None to be found though so we had onion soup sans bread and a salad. Nice day.

Going to be a day of sunshine and fun for us. How about you?

forgot a funny....

Good morning Linda and the rest to follow!

Did very well this weekend, eating wise. Had some salmon/leeks and aspargus and am enjoying eating more veggies with fish, etc. I got some blue hake that I will try tonight.

Snow is over and should be nice this week, so much for the weather report.

How's everyone else?

Hi Linda, Barb and maintainers.

Linda,
Those definitions are really great...I've cut an pasted them into a file of their own.

Barb,
How much snow did you get...the storm was on all the news.

Loretta,
I'll pick up my cholesterol numbers either Tues or Wed.

Nothing planned today. Not sure when we'll get to the Orchid Show. Bob is working so I'll probably go twice: I'm sure mid morning might have the smallest crowds (maybe Wednesday, while everything is fresh) but I'll have to go with Bob at night or weekends and face the mobs!

Ohhhhh,
NEVER, NEVER eat a DOVE Chocolate Truffle Egg.
This is exactly analagous to "NEVER take your first heroine shot!"

edit:
Does anyone have a good, easy recipe for a cabbage side-dish that is a little more elaborate than just steaming it. I never learned how to do ANYTHING with cabbage and I have a big head that's been staring me in the face for a month now! Main dish is a turkey meat loaf tonight!

Hi Roger and Barb.

Barb, How did you prepare the leaks? I never know what to do with them.

Roger,
Try this Amish dish

BAKED CABBAGE

2 small or 1 large head cabbage
2 T. splenda
2 eggs beaten
4 T. Melted Butter
1.5 cups milk
1 cup swiss cheese- grated
1 cup American cheese-grated
1 T. salt
1/2 Tsp. pepper

Core and chop up cabbage to 2x2 pieces. Cook until soft. Place in a large mixing bowl and combine all other ingredients except cheeses. Mix well.
Place cabbage in a casserole dish and pack down firmly. Spread cheeses over top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove and garnish with fresh chopped parsley.

I NEED more coffee.

HI to all

No fish yesterday. Dh caught 2 small ones. I sure was tired after being out there in the fresh air and sunshine. IT did me a world of good to just relax.

Linda, Nicky is such a healthy looking tyke. Big boy and happy with such a ncie smile. Thanks for that recipe for the baked cabbage. Looks like a winner to me. I sure like my cabbage. Thanks for the medical daffynitions too. Great stuff. I might steal them for my water thread.
My weight is staying under goal lately even though I have added that peanut butter and flat bread to my menu. I like both a lot. I am happy.

Barb I could not get into that site either. But you sure have my curiosoity up.

Zip that prize winning orkid is just beautiful. I was trying to get it saved for my wall paper but seem to be messing up somewhere. Thanks for the pic.
How do you make your Turkey Loaf? That is one of my favorites too. Guess I just like all food.

Hey to the rest on the bunch. Forecast says rain for the next few days. They'll be forever getting the siding done.

Cleaning up after company today.

Loretta

Hey all,

So far a pretty day here, but rain will roll in eventually. Supposed to be in the mid 70's, so I'm a happy camper Got my product made up this weekend, so I'm ready for delivery/mailing stuff. All I gotta do is box one up. We set the hummingbird feeders out today, and 2 little guys have been wearing them out. First ones we've seen this year!

Barb, glad the sneaux is over for ya, hope it melts soon and you get some springtime!

Linda, love the terminology, and know the people who use those words!

Zip, have a wonderful time at the orchid show. So many gorgeous things to see, don't forget the camera! Vendors should be excellent for that show, you may end up with a sibling for Phonecia yet!

Off to lurk for a minute, then feed the plants!

Hi Y'all

Here in the Pacific NW, we are still getting our missing Winter quota of cold and rain. Have lots of plants to get potted up, but am stalling re the semi-frosty nights.

Ginny, our Hummers haven't arrived yet...LOL, they were probably drawn to your yummy kitchen concoction fragrances. Glad you are enjoying making them, as much as we enjoy using them.

Loretta, glad you and DH got in a relaxing afternoon. No fish is OK, its the act that counts.

Montana, Thanks for the Cabbage recipe...AND the Medical terms. Like Ginny said, I know people who think like that.

Zip, super picture(s) of that OrKid...she's a beauty. Hope you and Bob get to see that Show...I've only been to a few. Wore my eyes and nose out, enjoying them.

Barb, WTO eating so healthily. I see that Leeks and Asparagus are beautiful now, new Spring crops.

Later, have a content day.

Well, I am truly amazed that the one thread I liked -- they pulled.

Yesterday I was reading "Cheating and Vacations" by beeb and thought it had some GREAT ideas in it that appealed to me! I couldn't find it last night for love nor money and PM Cheri. She just sent a reply: there was too much fighting so they pulled it.

Now, we all like a little "difference" of opinon now and then.......... I simply skipped over the verbal exchanges and read the parts I liked!

The jist was that if this was truly a way of life, then one wouldn't plan on cheating when on vacation. On a diet, you cheat, if you change your way of life to LC then stick to it most of the time rather than planning on having whatever you want to eat (non LC) for any celebration. Also, I liked the part on making celebrations something other than food!

For the leeks I heated olive oil in the pan and added leeks (white and green parts only, halved lengthwise, sliced) and cooked until tender. The salmon (grilled)was then topped with the leeks.

Last year I got hummers on April 23, but this year seems cooler. Once you get started though, you have to keep up the food!

Something rose out of ashes today. The employee that I let go last week and he took it so hard, is now planning on moving to NC with his family and starting a new business. His MIL and DW are artists and have some connections for starting a new site for their gallery. His MIL is also newly divorced from her husband who is the superintendent of the school district. I'm glad I got out of that one with all of my body parts.

Enjoy the Orchid show Zip!!
